Universe Alterations

A/N: Because I've gotten so many requests, here you are. I don't really know what happened while I was writing this though...

As predicted, the next morning, Permafrost and Stardust found Ander waiting for them in the forest.

"Good evening, our latest loverbirds." She greeted them.

"Ander, it's morning." Stardust reminded her.

"Not where we're going, it's not." Ray announced, stepping into the clearing with Haze, Boysen, Shore, Apple, Ember, Rin, Parrot, and Orange.

"What do you mean?" Permafrost asked.

"In light of Rin's confession of her complex love life," Ander began.

"You little eavesdropper!" Rin yelled at her.

"I apologize not." Her twin replied. "Anyway, in light of that, we're going to show you something that Ray and I always have access to, but you do not."

"Uh, could you be more specific?" Shore asked.

"The technical term is Universe Alteration." Ray explained. "It's basically our universe, but in a different timeline where certain events didn't happen, so things are very different."

"Different how?" Orange questioned.

"For example, there is a timeline world where Quickstrike never died, so Glory and some of the other Dragonets of Destiny are murdered, and the war ends the way the Nightwings wanted it to. In that universe, basically-" Ray gestured to Shore, Rin, Apple, and Ander. "None of you exist because Glorybringer never happened, the Rainwing tribe was slaughtered by Nightwings, and Blister is Queen of the Sandwings."

"All that because our great-grandmother lives?" Shore insisted.

"Yes. It is often the slightest changes that provoke the biggest consequences." Ander offered. "Now, we cannot take you to this Universe physically, but we can escort you there mentally."

"AKA circle up and hold hands." Ray instructed.

"Why are we doing this?" Apple asked.

"So you'll all feel much better about your current lives." Ander explained. "We could take you to the Dark Universe."

"Mea, what did I say about mentioning the Dark universe?" Ray hissed.

"You just don't like it because of what happens to me."

"I don't like it because of what happens to EVERYONE. Just you especially."

"What's the Dark Universe?" Orange questioned.

"A horrible, horrible place that you shouldn't go to." Ray declared. "Just be thankful that Dusk and Dawn exist, okay?"

"Okaaaay?"

"Good. MOVING ON!" Ander yelled. "Hold talons." Rolling their eyes, the group of friends circled up and held hands, with Ander on one side, and Ray across from her.

"Close your eyes." Ray instructed. "And let down any mental walls you have." The group fell silent.

"Imagine that you are standing in front of an invisible wall," Ander continued, her voice eerie and somehow soothing. "There is a thin line on the ground before you, and you cannot cross it."

"Focus on the hands you are holding." Ray went on. "Feel the connection, and watch as the wall and the line fade before you."

"Now take a step forward, not physically, but in your mind. Step over the line, and then open your eyes. Patitur amicis meis epularer intrare." They stepped...

....And opened their eyes in the rainforest.

"It didn't work." Haze announced. "...Why did I actually think that would work?"

"Because it did." Ray explained. Haze glanced at him and shrieked, jumping back as the others stared at Ray and Ander.

Their eyes were a strange red color they had never seen before. Small stars were etched into their faces and the rest of their scales, and their wings were silver.

"Welcome to the Universe Alteration." Ander declared.

"What....what the hell...." Shore whispered, staring at his sister.

"Relax." Ander insisted. "Ray and I simply change sometimes when we swap dimensions to match the stars. It's nothing."

"Why didn't the rest of us change?" Boysen asked, fascinated.

"You are not prophets." Ray offered. "Come, let's explore." He and Ander linked arms and walked off, the rest of the group following behind with wide eyes.

"So, what's the deal with this place?" Apple questioned. "It looks the same- I mean, except for you two."

"Note that we are only here spiritually, so we cannot be seen, or heard, nor can we touch or effect anything." Ray explained.

"In this universe, Parrot was never born." Ander offered. "Sorry, Parrot." The Rainwing blinked, slightly confused, but then shrugged.

"So Parrot not being born drastically changes the universe?" Rin presumed.

"Exactly." Ander agreed. "In this universe, Rin, you end up married to Permafrost." They paused.

"I'm good with that." Rin declared. "What else is new?"

"Rin challenges Glory for Queen and wins, skipping over Joy's rule as Queen." Ray continued. "Naturally, all of Pyrrhia was in an uproar because there had never been two queens before, and Permafrost being an Icewing caused the Nightwings to revolt."

"Oh, so I'm a Queen!" Permafrost commented. "That doesn't sound so bad."

"Tension between tribes is thick enough to cut, and you have weekly assassination attempts on yours and Rin's lives." Ander offered. "But you get a crown, so YAY!"

"Oh." Rin breathed.

"That doesn't sound so great." Apple proclaimed.

"Trust me, Apple, compared to the Dark Universe, that is NOTHING." Ander offered.

"Is the Dark Universe the reason why nothing fazes you two?" Stardust questioned.

"After the Dark Universe, I don't think anything can faze us." Ray whispered.

"Anyways," Ander continued. "The rest of our ships are still together," Ander promised. "Except for Stream and Willow and Cyconda. The royal families are on lock down, and JMA is not currently a thing, so there's no way for those guys to get together."

"I don't like this place." Ember offered.

"It's not so bad!" Ander declared. "They're just not in a great place right NOW. Things will get better."

"How do you know that?" Rin demanded. Ander paused.

"......Okay, I don't." She admitted. "But look! Here we are!" She stepped aside and let them look out at the Rainwing Village, which was much larger and grander the the one back in their home.

"Ooooh." Apple whispered. "This is beautiful."

"See? Not that bad." Ray agreed. "Hey look! There's Permafrost!"

Permafrost leaned forward to spot another, slightly older version of herself. She looked battle-hardened, but content, and was wearing a crown made of violets.

"Okay, that's cool." Permafrost admitted, smiling.

"Salve, conservis prophetas." A soft voice whispered. They all turned, only to spot what had to be the Ander of the Universe Alteration, her head down.

"Um, Ander?" Orange asked. "Was she talking to you?"

"Yes, I forgot to mention that..." Ander insisted. "Prophets can sense and speak to other prophets when they are visiting these dimensions."

"So all those times I caught you talking to yourself in the forest," Rin added.

"I was speaking to someone from one of these."

"Wow. That makes a lot more sane, actually."

"Wait, can she hear us right now?" Shore questioned.

"No," Ray offered. "She'll only hear things that are spoken in Latin. But we can hear everything she says, and she can only sense Ander and me."

"Salve," Ander repeated, staring at the other version of herself. "Quam est hodie, amica?"

The other version of Ander raised her head, and the group jumped back at the sight. A long scar ran down her face, and she held a dagger in her talons.

"Non est bonum." The Alteration proclaimed, holding the dagger tightly. "Vade in domum tuam, prophetam. Hoc mundus non est tibi."

"What's she saying?" Permafrost questioned.

"We need to leave now." Ray advised.

"She's never said THAT before," Ander insisted, looking nervous. "Ray-" Her words were cut off as a scream cut through the air.

"What was that?" Ember demanded.

"It sounded like me screaming," Permafrost admitted.

"Vade in domum tuam!" The Alteration screeched. "Go home!"

"Grab hands!" Ray ordered, and they did so. "Close your eyes, try to calm yourself, and step back over the line." They did so....

...And appeared back in the rainforest. Back home.

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!?!" Haze screeched as they everyone hit the rainforest floor.

"We caught them at a bad time." Ander offered.

"I'm dead, aren't I?" Permafrost asked. "I feel dead."

"You're not dead." Stardust assured her.

"Yeah, not HERE." She insisted. "But SOMEBODY'S DEAD OVER THERE!"

"Who's dead and where?" A new voice demanded as Joy stepped into the clearing.

"No one of import." Ander said immediately. Joy narrowed her eyes.

"Ande, if you killed someone again-" She began.

"You can't prove anything." Ander announced. "And what I did in an Alternate Universe doesn't matter."

"Wait a sec...." Permafrost paused. "OH MY MOONS DID YOU STAB RIN?!!?!"

"Wait WHAT?" Rin yelled. Joy watched them, letting this conversation unfold.

"Wow, she caught on fast." Ray insisted.

"I am so confused." Ember declared.

"Me too." Apple agreed.

"Rin was just murdered in a Universe Alteration. Who killed her and why doesn't matter." Ander explained. "Just be grateful for the universe you live in now."

"So you kill your sister in an alternate dimension, and we just have to be cool with that?" Boysen concluded.

"I never said I killed her."

"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON." Joy finally asked.

"We traveled to an alternate universe-" Shore began.

"Universe Alteration." Ray corrected.

"-Whatever. We went to a very messed up other dimension, and Rin died, Ander was creepy, and the whole world was on the verge of falling apart, but it was somehow better then the Dark Universe, whatever that is. Don't ask any more questioned because I have no idea what the hell just happened either. What did we miss?" Joy stared at him.

"You missed a lot of dragons started to get scared because you all have been missing the entire day. Next time, inform someone when you go on a field trip, and don't stab your siblings, okay?" Joy offered.

"Got it." Joy looked at them once more, and then shook her head and left, leaving the very confused group behind.

"Okay, I know this is bad," Boysen began. "But I kinda wanna see the Dark Universe."
