Chapter 10: Hiding•

"It's you!" Zelda gasped. The creature nodded and looked down

"Yes... I was... The darkness in your heart for all these years. I'm sorry I did this to you, but I had nowhere else to hide"

"Hide?" She nodded and looked at the ceiling

"Yes... There's someone..." She shut her eyes in pain "my name is Midna... And I'm the Twilight Princess of the twilight realm. Please... Let me stay within your body. I won't hide in your heart... I'm nothing but a shadow right now... Let me stay in your Triforce. I'll explain everything to you soon, but please..." The creature looked in pain. Should Zelda really help her..?

"Well.."

"before you say anything, you should be grateful I remained in your heart all these years. I've been one with your heart and I saw that you wanted to leave this world after your mother left. I will help you as much as I can... But please..." The creature started falling asleep "save my people... And yours" Zelda bit her lips and looked down

"If I let you stay within my Triforce, what will you do to me..? You were the darkness in my heart, how do I know you're not going to try to take away the Triforce Link tried so hard to bring back..?" Midna stared at Zelda for a short moment before sinking into her Triforce without permission "H-hey!"

"I will help you as much as I can princess... Remember I'm the reason why you're alive. If it wasn't for me, what will happen? You're father would had ruled and do you really want that to happen?" Zelda looked down in a frown "everything will make sense soon, just please trust me... I need you princess, we can save our people together... As long as I'm hiding within your body, you should be okay" Zelda sighed and looked down at her outfit. She was wearing her Sheikah suit... That's right, Link left. So does that mean everything that she went through with Link had disappeared and changed?

She took off her backpack and looked inside to see Link's things still inside! Thank goodness! She put on the Goron Bracelet and smiled

"I'll never forget you Link..." She took out the fairy ocarina and hugged it "never..." She put the ocarina back and put the satchel back on before leaving the spring. She could see Sony swimming around Lake Hylia before he noticed her

"Boss! What are you doing here?!" Zelda stared at him. Sony doesn't remember the trip down here, huh? "I wasn't slacking off! I was just putting the boat back! Swear!" She smiled behind her scarf

"How long has it been since the shop has been closed?"

"Huh? It's never been closed" so it's true then... It's like Link never came. Time changed... Zelda nodded and threw him the keys she was positive she gave to Sony earlier

"Here you go Sony" Sony looked at the keys confused while she used her powers to change out the Sheikah suit and into her princess dress with her cape. Her new light made her confident and knew exactly how to use these new abilities of hers. Sony's eyes widened at her appearance "you may have the shop"

"W-what..?" She squat down to reach him in the water

"I'm so sorry for all the things I've done to you... I've made many people suffer. I don't know if you can ever forgive me... But I truly apologize. I'm a new woman" she looked at the lake "I'm going to fulfill my duty of Princess of Hyrule..."

"What?! Y-you're..." Zelda smiled and nodded

"Thank you Sony..." She held his cheek "for putting up with me... I hope we can be friends... But I doubt you'll let it happen" a tear ran down her cheek "good bye Sony... Take care of the shop for me" she took out her harp and played her song to warp back to her home

"W-wait!" Sony shouted before Zelda left. She was in her front door when she saw two yetis standing in front of it as well

"Oohh!" The big yeti shouted "owner of pretty home, ah?" Zelda stared at him before the smaller yeti and smiled

"Yes... Are you looking for shelter..?" They nodded "I'll be happy to help you..." She looked up at the mansion "actually... You are welcome to keep the place to yourself... I'm just moving so I'll be happy to give it to you!"

"Oohh! Nice lady! Give house to Yeto and wife?! Ah?" The yeti, known as Yeto, asked

"Oh course!" Yeto dug behind him and gave her a pouch of what sounded like Rupees "no payment required, honestly!"

"Take money! Gave house, Yeto thanks you! Ah?" Zelda frowned and gently took the bag

"Let me show you around... I must pack my things if you don't mind" she bowed her head before leading the yetis into the house. She showed them the only places she uses, since the others were full of enemies and such. She didn't take much from the living room, but noticed a part of a burned paper laying on the floor. She picked up what she could see of the burned piece and saw a drawing of a strange stone with a hole in the middle with the skeikah symbol and a wolf howling... What's that about?

She pocket the piece of paper, thinking Link might've drew it, and went to show the yetis the bedroom while picking up a few dresses and her supplies before putting them in bags

"I think that's all of it" she faced the yetis "I hope you like it here"

"Yeta want owner to come back, to visit! Ah?" The smaller yeti smiled. Zelda bowed

"Thank you, I will take it under consideration" she whistled to make the wolves come forth to take her things "may we meet again. Let's go everyone" the wolves whined and followed her outside the bedroom. She stared at the snow around her before looking down at all the wolves staring at her. These wolves helped her for years... They stuck by her side and stayed loyal. They were also the ones that brought her to Link... If it wasn't for these wolves, what would she be doing right now..?

"I'll be going now... I hope you'll be able to hear my call when I play our song" she pet as many as she could before playing her harp to take her in front of Castle Town. The place was beautiful, but something about it seemed different

She ignored it and tightened her grip on her bags, which didn't hold a lot of stuff, and proceeded on. There was always a soldier by the door. She looked around the place just in case others will see

"Excuse me" she smiled at the soldier. The man looked at her confused "would you mind helping me with my things? I have somewhere to go here" he looked uncomfortable before forcing a smile

"Of course, I will have someone escort the lady" he waved over to another soldier walking by "hey man, can you help this lady with her bags" she looked at him with a kind smile before removing her hood slightly. The men blushed a little

"Thank you... Please follow me to Hyrule Castle... I would like to take my place and take my crown back" they gasped and stood on their knee

"Y-you-!" She raised her hand, still holding her kind smile

"Please stand... Allow me to take my crown before giving me special treatment... I'm sorry I'm late" they smiled and nodded. A few people were running over to the middle of the town "hm? What's going on..?" The soldiers frowned at each other before standing

"The King had made a terrible decision... Princess" Zelda furrowed her brows confused "let us show you..." They took her bags and walked her to the fountain with the lands crest in the middle. There was a huge crowd looking up at a stage build in front of it with her father on top next to three people laying on their knees with their hands behind them. Zelda gasped

"What is this..?" Her father, the king, started talking to the crowd and talking about creating slavery, since the higher class people has too much on their hands to do proper things in the house. Rounding up poor people to do other people's job was supposably going to be a new thing around Hyrule. Zelda started shaking in anger

"The King wants to make slavery a thing, Princess" her soldiers said. Slaves... Just like Link was. She made him a slave and played with him, but that was when she was dark and evil, now she knew it was wrong.. No, her people will not suffer such fate!

"Who would like to be the first ones to buy a slave?!" The King yelled. Everyone looked at each other. There was one boy on the stage starting to shake and shouted in anger as he used his feet to kick the soldiers near by and escape, but other soldiers attacked him down

"Let me go!!" He shouted. Zelda's eyes widened at the blonde boy with blue earrings on his point ears. Those earrings... Those blue eyes... It can't be...

"Link..." She cupped her mouth. He continued to shout and try to fight, but he was out numbered and pressed down. Can that be Link's... Descendant?! "LINK!" She shouted before storming pass the crowd and towards him. The boy looked up confused before two soldiers pointed their weapons at her. She stopped near the stage and glared at them

"Foolish girl, it's too late to save your friend, he's property now" her father laughed. Zelda was shaking in anger

"How dare you..?" She lifted her hood to expose her appearance "you dare point your weapons at your princess?!" The soldiers flinched and stepped away "you!" She pointed at her father "making up such a decision... Who do you think you are?!" She showed the back of her right hand "you have no right to rule over this land anymore! As tradition and the law, the princess of Hyrule has a right to take back her crown and stop any laws the king has created! There will not be slaves! I will keep Hyrule in peace!" Her father was dumbfounded the whole time "soldiers! Lock this man in the dungeon and undo anything harmful he has decided!" The soldiers hurried to grab the King and take him away

"Wait! Wait! I have a good reason for this! Zelda! My daughter! Be reasonable! This is the first time us seeing each other! Surely you would like to hear your own father out" Zelda huffed and turned her head

"Take him away! I will not have my land to be in such state!" The soldiers nodded and hurried with the King to the castle. Zelda sighed and climbed the stage to face everyone "I'm sorry everyone... This was a unexpected visit from your princess... I would like to say that I regret leaving my land on the hands of that man. I would make it up to everyone... Please accept my apology and go on with your day... There will be no slaves. Everyone is created equal and deserve a chance" she held her heart. Hoping her people will leave, but ended up hearing clapping. She looked up surprised and saw everyone cheering for her. She blushed and nodded. They accept her... She just got here and she's already been accepted "thank you everyone" she looked at the two soldiers who walked her here "untie the others, I will take care of this one" she walked over to the familiar boy and stared down at his confused blue eyes. He looks so much like Link... But this one has a little more brown in his hair and wearing the earrings she gave Link. How does he gave them..? Didnt Link's past take place centuries ago?

"Hello" she kneeled down to him. He just stared. She took out a dagger from her boot and moved over to cut the rope from his hands. He rubbed them in pain and said nothing the whole time she stared at him while he stared at the stage "are you alright, darling..?" He looked up at her with a little pink on his cheeks before standing. He offered his hand, letting her happily take it, gently, and helped her up before curtsying "I am Princess Zelda, nice to meet you"

"My name..." He rubbed the back of his head and looked away a little nervously "Link" her eyes widened before she smiled

"What a lovely name" she held his hand, making him surprise "please, allow me to escort you home. It's the least I can do after what you went through" he smiled and nodded

"Thank you" she smiled back and looked at the other men who were tied

"How are you two... Are you okay?" They bowed for her on the floor while crying. She giggled and looked at Link still holding her hand. She blushed happily while he barely noticed the holding and let go embarrassed "you two, I will be escorting this young man back to his home. Escort the others back as well" she told the soldiers

"But princess..."

"Do not worry, i will come back no matter what" she climbed down the stage and searched for her Ocarina "you have my things don't you? I swear on my Triforce, I will come back" they sighed and smiled before bowing

"Yes Princess..." She nodded before lifting her hood and walk away to the exit. Link hurried to follow. She can sense him being a little nervous and shy. He's a little cuter than the other Link. The other Link is shy too, but this one looks like he's as Shy as a puppy. They made it to Hyrule Field. She took out her Harp and faced Link still looking away

"Don't be so shy darling... What's wrong?" He looked at her

"I'm sorry... I'm not normally shy, not at all! It's just that... I have a hard time finding a way to say thank you" she giggled

"You just did" he huffed

"My freedom was almost taken away from me... I could have been someone's slave. If it wasn't for you, who knows where I'll be" she closed her eyes and nodded

"I know the feeling"

"I feel like I should owe you my life" she flinched and waved her hands

"Whoa whoa! No no, that's completely fine!" He sighed and looked at his hands. She stared at his clothes... Very Ordonian... He must be from Ordon

"I don't know what it is... But it feels like we've met before" she looked surprised "when you called me through the crowd, it felt like I heard it before, and when I saw you... I felt so happy, I'm not even sure why..." He kneeled down and held her hand, making her face red "princess I-"

"You don't owe me your life"

"But I-" she shook her head and made him stand

"You remain free... Young hero" she closed her eyes

"Hero..?" She opened her eyes and looked at his earrings

"Tell me, where did you get those earrings?"

"Oh! These?" He played with them "they were on my ears when my foster father found me in the middle of Faron woods..." Zelda frowned "they're special to me... I'm not sure why, but they are" Zelda then smiled before walking away while playing a song. Link quickly followed

"I also felt like we met as well" she admit

"Really? Is that how you knew my name?" She giggled

"Well, sort of... If I told you the story, you wouldn't believe me"

"Try me" he smiled. She looked at him for a moment before giving him the ocarina

"Does this seem familiar to you?" He held the ocarina for a moment

"A little... I don't think I've seen it before. Can I play it?" She nodded. He played around with the holes. He looked surprised the whole time before smiling and started to play Epona's song. He played it perfectly! Did his instincts let him remember how to play the instrument?

Before they knew it, a horse was racing their way. Zelda smiled happily "Epona!" Link pet Epona and looked at Zelda surprised

"How you know Epona?"

"Lucky guess..?" He chuckled and got up

"I think I got it from here, you should really go back to the castle to take care of that father of yours. Not trying to be disrespectful" Zelda waved her hand

"I'll take care of him, but are you sure you don't want me to escort you..?" She put her hands together. Link smiled and offered his hand

"If that's what you really want... Will some soldiers follow to take you back?"

"Yes" she lied. He nodded and helped her on Epona

"Hang on Princess, it'll get dark soon and there's going to be monsters around. I don't have a weapon" she hang onto him before he picked Epona and send her running

"Don't worry! I have a weapon of my own!" She yelled through the wind

"Really?!" She nodded happily and inhaled his scent. He smells just like the hero of time...

"Yes!" She giggled and peaked at her harp behind her. Her harp is known to be her only weapon. She knew how to use a bow and arrow, but her harp has more magic than just warping. The two rode the whole way to Faron Woods in silence. Zelda had her eyes closed the whole time, but opened them when feeling Link taking a peak at her almost every minute. She thought it was cute

"Do I have something on my face?" She joked. He flinched and kept his eyes on the path with his pointy. ears were all red, making his bright earrings nice and shiny, just like how she bought them for Link. She's a crappy gift giver, but at least he liked them

"N-no! I was just making sure there's no monsters anywhere!" She giggled and played with his hair, making his ears turn more red

"Don't worry, I'll protect you" he stood straight and stopped Epona before turning around to look at her. Huh?

"Why do you seem so familiar to me?" He frowned

"I don't understand-"

"I don't get it! I'm sorry for raising my voice but... It feels like I'm suppose to know you. It feels like I'm suppose to do the protecting. It feels like we've met in someway... Like another life..." He looked down and looked at his hands. Zelda smiled and held his cheek, surprising him

"That might be true... Who knows. I know how you feel, I do. Don't worry Link, just know..." She sighed "You'll know the truth of hope and kindness... I hold the wisdom within me, thanks to..." She looked down and chuckled "thanks to a very special person... Tell me Link, what does these words mean to you?" He stared at her for a moment before turning back to pass by the bridge towards Ordon

"You talk like we've known each other for years... I like that but, how are you doing that after we just met?" He smiled and jumped off Epona "your words are strong, and it makes me happy to know you're a good person" she smiled and held his hand, staring at his left hand... The hand that had dark haze drawn into it just like she did. Midna did that... Who is Midna..? "Very happy actually"

"I'm happy to hear that" she hopped off Epona to face him "I hope we can be friends" he nodded

"I would like that" there was sniffling somewhere... Link looked around confused until he faced Ordon Spring. In front of the spring, there stood Ilia. Zelda frowned, knowing she was crying

"Please..." Ilia cried "bring Link back to us... I..." She held her heart "I promised someone I will be his greatest friend... He's the only one who understands me... I promised him... I promised her..." She cupped her eyes "he has to come back..." Link walked up to her. She turned around confused with eyes full of tears before crying loudly and ran to hug him. Zelda smiled and lifted her hood before turning away. She did ask Ilia to protect Link... Did she..?

"You're back..." Ilia cried

"I'm here, it's okay sis..." Zelda started walking away

"I wouldn't be if it wasn't for the princess..." Zelda turned a little to look at him staring at her with Ilia

"Princess..? You?" She walked a few steps towards her. Zelda took out her harp and started playing her warp song "would your name happen to be... Zelda..?" Zelda opened her eyes and smiled

"Thank you Ilia... For protecting him" she warped back home, back to her kingdom
