Chapter 40 - Back From the Dead
I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
White-blonde hair that spilled down her shoulders, and naturally pink lips.
"No...it can't be. She's-"
"Apparently not," Jimmy said as-a-matter-of-factly.
Emilie?
I saw the wound where Jimmy stabbed her. It was right below her kneecap.
I shook Emilie. "Emilie!" I said, in hopes she would wake up. My eyes started to water, I was glad she wasn't dead.
Then, Emilie's eyes shot open. She immediately wailed.
"OW!" Emilie yelled in agony.
Then, she looked at me and Jimmy. Emilie tried to stand up, but fell back down. She looked petrified.
She tried to crawl away, but I gripped her shoulders. "It's okay, we're not going to hurt you."
Emilie's eyes were wide open.
"Just come with us, we'll get you fixed up." I said, trying to get her to calm the hell down.
I helped Emilie up, and me and Jimmy walked her back to the apartment.
Jimmy got out Neosporin and a bandage, and kneeled down in front of Emilie.
He spread the Neosporin across Emilie's wound, and wrapped the bandage around it.
Jimmy and I sat opposite sides of Emilie.
"So, h-how are you...alive? What about the suicide note that you sent me? Did someone else send that?" I asked all those questions in a span of two seconds.
Emilie opened her mouth to speak, but only a little squeak escaped. "Well..." She started. "The suicide note...Anonymous sent it to you. I don't know who Anonymous is, but he threatened to kill me if I didn't fake my death and join him." By the looks of Emilie, she looked traumatized.
"And Anonymous wanted me to "play dead" when I was in your apartment. Anonymous did it to startle you guys."
"But, y-you were blue...?" Jimmy stammered.
"Ever heard of makeup?" Emilie said with a sassy tone of voice. Jimmy shrugged.
Emilie faced me. "But, even though that suicide note apologizing to you wasn't from me, I am actually really sorry. Everything that I've done, Anonymous threatened me to do. I'm really sorry." Emilie broke down, putting her head in her hands.
I hugged her. "It's okay." I felt so bad for her. "What will make you feel better?" I looked around the room. Then, something popped into my head. "You know what? Jimmy, I've actually been meaning to show you this. It's in one of my drawers." I walked into our bedroom, and got a photo album.
I sat back down on the couch, and opened it up. I flipped to a picture of me and Emilie at a sleepover when we were sixteen.
"I remember that!" Emilie examined the picture. "God, I remember Callie and Ariana."
"Oh god, they were total bitches." I rolled my eyes. I turned to Jimmy. "I actually never told you this, but me and Emilie were kind of mean girls in high school."
Jimmy giggled, and crinkled his eyebrows at the same time. "You were? You don't seem like that kind of type."
"I hate to think about it," I chuckled. "Remember Rachel Salman?" Emilie and I giggled.
"What am I missing?" Jimmy asked, giggling. He was so adorable.
"Callie persuaded me to pour ranch dressing on this poor girl's head." Jimmy's jaw dropped jokingly.
"That's so mean!" Jimmy said jokingly.
*Flashback*
Callie handed me a bottle of ranch dressing to me. "Pour this on Salman's head." She gestured to Rachel Salman, the new girl that was a total dork.
"No way, I'll get a detention!" Like I even cared, but I didn't want to be mean to that innocent girl.
"C'mon M, don't be a wuss." Callie threw her mahogany hair over her shoulder. God, I hated when she called me M. She always called me that when she wanted me to be nasty to someone.
I looked at Emilie, who shifted uncomfortably in her seat. She was the same as me, she hated being told what to do by Callie and Ariana
Ariana gave me a look that said do it. I rolled my eyes, and got up. I strutted up to Rachel, who was still trying to find a seat. I sneaked up her, and poured the ranch dressing on her head.
Everybody in the cafeteria bursted into hysterical laughter. I felt terrible, but I laughed with everyone else.
"Being in a popular clique costed something; being nasty to others. I hated it, but it was my only key to popularity. I thought that if I wasn't popular, I wouldn't survive in high school. But as for now, I regret that so badly." I explained sincerely.
"I hated mean girls. There were so many in my high school." Jimmy sighed.
Then, a question that has been on my mind a lot popped into my head. "Em?" Emilie turned her head towards me. I paused. "Who's in your grave?"
"I-I..." She trailed off. "I don't know."
As if on cue, Emilie's phone buzzed. She pulled it out, and widened her eyes.
Jimmy and I looked at her phone screen.
You weren't supposed to be unmasked, Ms. Alderman! You'll have to pay.
"I-it's okay, you can stay with us. We'll protect you." Jimmy said. He was so generous.
"Thanks," Emilie smiled a little, but instantly faded away.
Then, me and Jimmy's phone buzzed. We exchanged an uneasy glance, and opened our text messages.
Oh, Jimmy and Malina. I hope you guys don't think you're living in any fairytale. Same applies to you both.
I sighed in anxiousness. "Something's gonna happen soon," I said, looking around nervously.
