Chapter 24: The Quite Unexpected Escape
Vailan's POV
"Why won't they just give in." I voiced to the room as I used the looking glass water in front of me and watched the two Jareths and the child ride through the woods.I had hoped to stop them by sending them through the forest with its soft yet slippery floor. But it seems the horses in this world had 6 legs.
Damn creepy horses.
"I must stop them." I said aloud and moved towards the door.
"NO!" That voice resonated around me. That terrible voice, the one that resonated pure evil.I wished i still had the cloak i used to use to shroud my face because I didn't exactly look threatening in this stupid Fae form i share with my brothers, but Ruby damaged it, so now it doesn't work. I smiled to myself for a moment as I remembered what I did to that damn angel, then came back from my thoughts, into the situation I was currently in.
"What do you mean 'no'." I spat back at the voice. I may have been afraid of the body-less voice, but I wasn't about to let him know that.
"You never listen do you? DO I JUST HAVE A FACE THAT NOBODY LISTENS TO!" I considered reminding him that he didn't have a face, but he cut me off before I had chance.
"Don't answer that. Anyway, as i was saying, i do not want you to stop them getting here."I looked around, presumably at the voice, confused.
"Why?"
"As i have told you before, its part of the plan."
"Plan?" I huffed. "What plan."
"THE PLAN I HAVE EXPLAINED TO YOU THREE TIMES!" I flinched away, which it turns out if a pretty difficult thing to do when the think your trying to move away from is all around you.
"Now." The voice said again. "Do as I tell you and we will come out on top. You've disobeyed me once by bringing that other Jareth and Sarah to this world, and then again by kidnapping that Sarah and I let it slide. But I am warning you. Do not do it again."
As he said that last sentence, the room around me burst into flames. I was left coughing and clawing for air until the sures subsided, and I was left to the darkness.
Sarah Everild's POV
I woke with the sun warm on my face, and its brightness showing through my eyelids.I opened my eyes and looked around. I was.... in my room? As in, mine and Jareths room back home."Your awake." I hear a voice say from beside me.
"Jareth?" I asked. Genuinely shocked. How did he get here? How did i get here? I was... where was I?
"Obviously." I heared Jareth say, and I looked at him again.
"Unless you were hoping for somebody else. Because i hate to break it to you, but Gareth is taken." He joked.
"What?" I asked confused, and looked down at my hands.I felt Jareth put his arm around me and pull me into him.
"I know, your tired. You've been sleeping ever since we got back from that other world."
"Back from the other world..." I mumbled to myself. This just didn't seem right. I saw something out of the corner of my eye and wondered.
It didn't fit.
Turning I looked into Jareth's eyes, one blue, one brown, and I smiled.
"Yeah, of course. I forgot thats all." I said, shaking my head and standing from the bed. Walking over to the vanity table to look in the mirror.I saw him walk up behind me and knew it was my moment. I looked at him through the mirror.
Not Jareth no, Vailan.
I swiftly picked up the knife I had noticed while i was on the bed, the one I knew didn't fit simply because of its bizarre shape, like nothing Jareth owned, and I put it sharp end against Vailan's throat.
"Did you really think you could fool me?" I spat. I could hear the venom in my voice, and hoped he felt it.He smirked at me and I faulted. Why was he smirking at me? Does he not realise that im the one with the knife?
"It would appear that yes, I can fool you."I stared at him confused as the world around me melted. I was still in a bed chamber, but the room was in ruins. I finally realized what he'd meant when the knife I was holding melted away too, and I knew I had lost.
"Come come now, my little love. Why don't you just give in to me."I shook my head at him in utter disbelief.
"You never learn do you. I will never, ever submit to you and as you well know, force won't work."I gave him a look of confidence, though I had none, and watched as his face turned sour.
"Fine. Enjoy." Was all he said.
I started to wonder about what he meant by that, but i didn't have to wonder for long.I cried out as images flashed through my head. Jareth, dead. My father, dead. Toby...I couldn't cope. I collapsed onto Vailan crying. He smirked a winners smirk and dragged me down the hall, throwing me back into my cell with Sara Williams, and stormed off.
"SARAH!" I heared her shout as she came running over to me. "Are you ok? What happened? I woke up and you we're gone." She helped me up and I explained what had happened.
"I'm so sorry you had to see those things. I don't know what i'd have done if i'd seen them."Her face however, changed from concern to confusion, when she saw my smirk.
"Looks like all that roleplaying payed off." I said, confusing her more.
"Shall we get out of here?" I asked, seeing Sarah's eyes widen as she saw me raise the key I had stolen off Vailan's set when I fell onto him. I knew the images I was seeing weren't real, so I used it to my advantage. For some reason he had two of the same key, so he didn't notice one missing when he threw me in here. She nodded frantically and we rushed to the door, opening it with ease now we had the key.We ran out into the hallways.
For a castle that was falling apart, the walls were solid and high, so we couldn't just climb over. We turned a corner, only to become face to face with...
"KAREN!"
The woman I had known as my step mother was stood in front of me. Her "mother" clothes gone and replaced by black skin tight trousers, a black top and a black leather jacket, which all made her look stupid, but i was more focused on how she was here than how stupid she looked.
"Who's Karen?" I heard Sarah Williams ask. I looked at her confused, then remembered, in this world she didn't have Karen, she had someone else. That's why she never came back, no Karen to say the words.
"She was my stepmother. But it also turns out she's Fae."Sarah nodded and went to ask me something else, but was cut off.
"I always hated that name, Karen, how pathetic. My name, is Irene Wormwood."
"Wormwood? I thought all the Wormwoods we're dead?"I asked, stalling to see if o could find a way past her.
"I escaped. I used the magic i possessed and got out of there."
"The old magic, Jareth told me your family had it. You used the old magic to get out of there, and left your family to die?"
"Self preservation my dear."I looked at her in disbelief. I knew she was a monster, but this?
"Even so. Why are you working with Vailan? He's the one who massacred your family?"
"I'm not working with him. The boss summoned me here because Vailan was incompitant. You weren't supposed to be here, neither of you. He was supposed to kidnap Roselea, but then he saw you and couldn't resist. When he walked into the next room and saw her, he got confused and took you both."
I was so confused. I didn't know what to do with this new information, but before I could reply, she started talking.
"Enough of the questions. Its time for me to get rid of you, once and for all.The path behind us moved and was sealed off, leaving us in a dead end, and Karen started racing towards us. I prepared myself for the worst as she raised her sword, but before she could get half way, a man appeared in front of us.He had short brown hair, and bright blue eyes.
"Quickly go!" He yelled as he waved his hand at the wall behind us, which quickly disappeared and became a corridor... with two big brown castle doors at the other end.
The way out.
He pulled two long swords out from under his coat, and held them up towards Karen, or Irene, whatever she calls herself.I had just about enough time to register that the way he produced his swords, and stood with them reminded me of Ruby before he called out again. "Go now!"I snapped back into reality just as Sarah Williams grabbed my arm.
"Come on!"
"Wait!" I shouted as she pulled me down the hall way.
"Who are you?!"
I never got my answer. When his swords met those of my supposed step mother, I turned to run alongside Sarah. We got to the other end of the corridor and pushed the door open. The sight that greeted us, however, I wasn't expecting.
