#4_Marty

It was raining when they first saw him.
Ten year old Sophie and nine year old Shadowflame Foster were walking back home from the fabric shop when they heard a soft mewl.

Shadowflame practically dragged Sophie to the source of the sound which was in an abandoned alley. There, they found a damp cupboard box. In it was a shivering grey kitten that looked barely two months old. There was no shelter offered to shield the poor feline from the pouring rain. The poor thing was drenched and possibly on the verge of death.

The two brown eyed girls looked at each other and nodded, they always seem to know what each other was thinking without Sophie using her telepathy. While Shadowflame carried all her fabrics, threads and the umbrella, Sophie scooped up the tiny kitten and cradled it close to her.

Once they reached their home, they speeded upstairs into the bathroom and locked the door. Shadowflame had left her stuff in their room. They bathed him with warm water and alot of soap. After that task was finished, he was wrapped in a thermal cloth like a cocoon. They took turns drying themselves off and watching over the kitten.

Shadowflame somehow got her hands on Amy's old baby bottle and filled it with warm milk to feed the grey kitten. After feeding it, Sophie found an old picnic basket and gave it to Shadowflame. Within minutes, Shadowflame had transformed it into an animal carrier. After making sure the kitten was succured, they tied some rope to a leg of their bed and threw the other end out their room window. They decked themselves in black hoodies, camouflage pattern pants and army shoes. Just like that, they snuck out without attracting any attention and brought it to the vet.

The animal clinic they went to was able to accommodate the walk-in clients without qualms. The vet they had, Dr Cesaire, checked on him and went back to the adoptive sisters with good news. They snuck back into their room the same way they got out and discussed about what to do. They would tell their parents now, if they didn't allow them to keep him, they would give him to Mr Forkle, their neighbor. If he didn't want him, they would give him to whoever did.

The brown eyed nonbiological sisters marched downstairs with the cat. When they had reached the bottom of the stairs, they overheard Amy ratting them out about sneaking the kitten in then sneaking out to bring it to a vet. They began to slowly back away but it was too late, they had been spotted.

Their parents were obviously against it "Are we in trouble again?" Shadowflame squeaked out.

"Have a guess."

"No?"

"Have another guess."

"He can stay in our room." Shadowflame argued

"You have cloth and threads lying around." their mother deadpaned.

"I can fix my mess, mother." that earned her a questioning look from everyone, even Sophie. "You don't have the rights to give her that look either Sophie." Mrs Foster reminded. Sophie looked offended while Shadowflame had a smug grin, as if to say 'In your face'. Mr Foster then reprimanded Shadowflame and Sophie for the same reasons. "No pets allowed and that's final." His two brown eyed daughters sulked to the couch and stared off into space while stroking the tiny ball of fur with defeat.

Sensing the tension in the room, the kitten lept off the couch and waddled over to the man and rubbed it's head on his leg and mewled softly. Sophie took the baby bottle out of the pocket of her hoodie and scooped the fluffy ball of grey up and began feeding it. "We know how to be responsible." Sophie tried to press. "We promise to make sure he does not destroy anything and train him well." Shadowflame added.

Their parents gave each other a look before they answered "We will give you two our verdict within a week. During that week, you must train him so he can earn his keep." The two S's put on a pair of sunglasses each and said "Challenge accepted."

Within that week, the two spent all their time either cleaning everything or training Marty. They had chosen to call him that when he pounced on a mouse like a warrior. At the end of the week, they were exhausted, but it was worth it when their parents agreed to keeping him.
