Chapter 5

Numbuh 1 hoped that he knew what he was doing. He definitely knew that it was the right thing so send his team to safety, that way they could go for reinforcements and alert HQ. But now, as he was being half led half dragged down a long series of corridors, he sort of wished that he was with them. No, he knew what he was doing, this way he could find out where Nikki was and maybe even find a way to get her out too. With any luck anyway...

They stopped at a large metal opening in the wall, it was circular and looked like a futuristic dumbwaiter. His restrainers tossed him inside and he suddenly felt the ground plummet under his feet. He cried out in surprise as he fell. Almost instantly, his knees buckled under him as his feet collided hard with the ground. The tube above him sealed shut, leaving him stranded in some sort of containment unit. There was no visible way out, just the now closed off way he came in. He grumbled to himself as he got to his feet, brushing himself off. The room was lit by a single florescent blub that scanned across the ceiling. There was nothing else that he could see. Just... the room.

Numbuh 1 started inspecting the walls of the room, tapping his knuckles for hollow spots or a hidden exit but nothing. "Great, there's nothing here but walls." He groaned as he slumped on the ground.

That's when he heard something, sounds like exploding and stuff. Then, the wall exploded which Numbuh 1 shielded himself as he lowered his arm, only to see a shadow figure holding a fat teenager's back.

"Really? Here I thought, your capable of things."

His eyes widened, the figure happen to be his sister who was standing right in front of him. She placed the fat teenager on the ground before walking up to him. "How did you find me?"

Jacey rolled her eyes, making her recall.

She sneak inside the mansion without notice, beat up several Teen Ninja which she still furious after watching her little brother been taken away. She walked up to the fat teenager who was cowering around the corner.

"Where is my brother?" She growled.

"You'll never find him." The fat teen replied.

"Hehehe....Maybe I didn't make myself clear." She grabbed him on the collar before having their faces close, eye to eye. The fat teen saw the horror in her eyes which he can dead souls whirling around before he was brought back from reality.

"I'll say it again; WHERE IS MY BROTHER?!" She said with threatening look.

"He's in the prison cell....I-I'll take you to him so please don't hurt me." The fat teen said, trembling in fear.

Back to the present

"Nevermind that. C'mon, Let's get out of here before those guys get here." Jacey said, reaching her hand out to her little brother but he didn't take it.

Jacey know what he was thinking as she continue, "Look, if its about the transmission.....Please Nigel, please you have to believe me, I was set up I ---"

He casually lifted a hand to silence her, "I know. We received info saying that you escaped so we were placed on your search and arrest. Too bad for us we ran into some trouble and that's when the truth came out."

"Oh....then that's a relief. I'm glad this clear up the misunderstanding. Where's your teammate? Are they trapped somewhere?"

"I managed to get them out, I came back to get you."

She let out a quick sigh of relief, but then her expression changed to anger, "You should have gone with them! You played right into their trap, now look where it's gotten you! Jeez sometimes you're just so ---"

"So what? So not like you? What's the matter 'Big Sister', angry that you have to be saved by a bunch of lower level KND or that your little brother isn't the leader that you want him to be?" he snapped, glaring at her.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means that every time you do something it's like it's the greatest thing since the book of KND! You were the first born, you were the winner of every competition you entered, you were the first in the family to get into university, you were always the talk of the family! The KND was something that I had! I was a leader, I was looked up to! Now here you are again! Trying to upstage me for glory! Something you took away from me!"

As he ranted, pacing back and fore throwing his arms in the air, Jacey felt a stab of guilt and horror with every word. He paused to glare at her before removing his shades.

"So good job, I've failed again and you're the best. I will never live up to you!"

With his final cry, he threw the glasses down to the ground, the frame clattering against the hard floor. One of the tinted lenses was forced from its frame and rolled along the floor into the shadows. He panted for breath, his cheeks reddening from anger. Jacey was speechless, she had no idea that he had felt that way. He turned away from her and sat crossed legged in the corner of the room, his back against the wall.

Jacey carefully picked up the broken shades and silently hunted for the lost lens. She managed to locate it on the other side of the containment unit, she passed it between her hands, rubbing the dust from it. Never ever had she tried to make her little brother feel so inferior. Looking back, she understood how it might have come across that way, and randomly showing up today would not have helped his opinion of her. She crossed the room and slid down the wall next to her cousin.

She sighed, "I'm sorry. I really am. You know, you say that I won every competition... what did you mean by that?"

He huffed, so she was gloating now? "You did track, you played violin, you even won at martial art competitions!"

"Yeah, Except what you didn't know is that from sports day, I hate running, the only reason I ran so fast was because I couldn't wait to get it over and done with, nothing else. As for violin,  Mom made me take that up because she wanted to compete with the neighbors kid who played drums until two in the morning! Now as for the karate, that was only so that I could get better at my job, not to mention use for self- defense."

He eyed her cautiously. She nodded and continued when he didn't answer her. "But Nigel....There's one thing I didn't achieve is having the best childhood memories."

"W-What do you mean?" Nigel questioned.

"Huh....I guess mom and dad didn't tell you; the reason they always suckered up to me is because I suffered a memory loss when I was 12 before becoming 13."

"What?!"

"It's true....I don't remember my childhood, all I remember is being at the hospital and my friend was with me. They told me that I had an accident which made me lose my childhood memory of 4 years."

"You mean...they did that so you could remember?"

"Yup, Mom and Dad did showed me pictures of me as a child which was the only thing I had. So that's why I work hard to repay them back for helping me and they told me not to tell you before the time comes."

Numbuh 1 now understood why; when she first came out of the hospital, she sees him as a stranger as if she doesn't remember him. As years passed, their parents began to open up to her, even to him. He wondered why his parents were treating her different.

He shrugged, "So why keep it a secret? Why not tell me?"

"Because you would be upset if they find out, you were young back then.."

He felt ashamed of himself as he lowered his head, not looking at her. She spoke, "Anyway, what do you mean that you failed? You're still a leader, and a heck of a good one at that! Maybe you should stop thinking like an adult comparing everything to someone else and just have fun being a kid."

She placed the broken shades over his eyes and laughed as his eyes crossed, focusing on the lost lens. He allowed himself a smile and held out his fist, curving his index finger like a hook, creating the illusion of a pirate. They laughed and he allowed her to hold his head still while she pressed the lens back into place.

"There you go, that's the Numbuh 1 I know."

"Thank you, Jacey," he sighed, "I didn't ---"

She stopped him, "You did, but that's okay, if you didn't, then things would be a lot worse in the long run. Next time just tell me when I'm annoying you, okay? Besides, if anyone should be jealous of anyone, I should be jealous of you."

He arched his brow, "Really, How do out work that one out?"

She smirked, "You may know this but....I've been watching you."

"Wait...WHat?!"

"Yeah, You're going places while I was in my part time jobs, I was there the whole time but I didn't bother to stop you since you and your friends are having fun and all. You have the best childhood memory of your life so make the most of it till you become a grown-up."

"Plus, you'd get there a lot faster if you stop being so tough on yourself. Trust me, Leader." She added with a sincere smile.

To prove her point she gave him a sharp salute. Numbuh 1 felt a pang of guilt, why was she being so nice to him and trying to make him laugh? He had basically just accused her of ruining his life and yet she wasn't even asking for an apology. She just took it and was trying to make him feel better. No, she wasn't just saying it to cheer him up, she actually meant it, she wasn't a liar. It had taken a while, but that had finally been proven to him.

"Now, What do you say we get out of here?" She asked, getting to her feet.

"Sounds like a plan." he grinned.

The two looked at one another before escaping through the hole. They were running through the hallway, passing by injured teenagers. Numbuh 1 said surprised, "Woah, What happen here? It's like a hurricane in here."

Jacey said sheepishly, "Let's just say I had a little talk with her crew about framing me for something I didn't do. Ugh, Cree always get me on my nerve."

"You know her?"

"Yeah....I've known her in high school and she always tried to surpassed me since I have better marks than she has. Not to mention, She always try to get me to join her teen ninja club. I guess she wasn't kidding about it when it comes to fighting kids. I mean C'mon there's no fun along the ride by listening to her blabber mouth."

Numbuh 1 chuckled, "I can see why."

When they turned around the corner, they see a group of teenagers surrounding them on both side as Numbuh 1 and Jacey stand back to back.

Jacey brought something out from her jeans as she brought 2 joystick before extending into a bos staff.

Numbuh 1 blinked, "Where did you get that?"

"I sort of borrow it from those teen ninjas." She replied, handing it to him.

"You do know Mom and Dad wouldn't allow to give dangerous weapon to a kid, right?"

She rolled her eyes, "Oh please, Nigel, don't be such an adult."

"I'm not an adult."

They whirled their staffs, showing their battle stance to the Teen Ninjas. "Just like old times....back when we were little, playing Spy Kids." Jacey smirked.

"Oh yeah." Numbuh 1 replied, as the duo charged at the Teen Ninjas

Numbuh 1 took down 7 teens while Jacey took down 5 teens and they seem to have fun, fighting alongside each other. Once Jacey took down a teen, she turned to see Cree standing from a distance, holding her bo staff.

"Can't believe your helping a KND operative? After everything his done to you." Cree said, got into her battle stance.

"That's because....you always over underestimated yourself. No wonder you were such a self-centered." Jacey taunted.

Cree growled angrily as she charged at her but Jacey was able to evade her attack, despite their bo staff clashing one another. "You forget I was a champion in martial arts and I know all your moves...It was so predictable." She said, before pushing Cree back then sweep her feet, causing her to fell and dropping her staff.

Jacey lean down to her and said sternly, "Also, This is for framing me in front of my brother." as she raised her finger before touching Cree's forehead. She was confused at first until she feel the coldness from her fingertips, which gave her an extreme brain freeze.

Cree screamed in pain, clutching her head as Jacey smiled with satisfaction. Nigel walked up to her and noticed Cree. "What happen to her?" He asked.

"Nothing....just giving her something to remember by." JAcey said with a smirk as she grabbed his hand and continue running.

They reached to the  room where they can see the exit. "Well, at least we're almost out." Jacey said in relief.

Nigel question, "Before we go, there's one thing I don't get; How did you escape from prison? Cree told me that you disappeared before they stage a fake rescue."

Jacey turned to him before looking away, "Oh that, I....don't know if you believe me."

"What do you mean?"

"There's also a reason why I left the house....You see, I have a secret."

Nigel stared at her, waiting for her answer as she continue, "Truth is, I....."

"It's rude to leave a party without first seeing your host."

Jacey and Nigel jumped, spinning around in shock. The new voice had come from just behind them, smooth and calm, almost amused at their efforts. More lights in the room flashed before them, making their eyes water. They found that there were not in just a simple room, but a glass box. The larger room that they they thought to find the exit, happens to be fake and had been so dark before that they had taken the glass to be shadowed walls. Nigel stood in front of her and raised his fists in preparation.

The figure, just on the other side of the glass, was just that, a figure. His entire body was draped in a dark shadow outlined by a red glow, his eyes aglow with yellow. A smoking pipe produced between his lips. Behind him, the group of grinning Delightfuls' waved their fingers in oddly accurate unison. Jacey felt chills, she had seen this man briefly during her part-time jobs. But she still knew nothing about him, it unnerved her. Nigel however, seemed to recognize him instantly.

"Hello, Numbuh 1..." the man sneered.

"Hello, Father."
