Im sorry pt 2/2
*Not beta read please don't fight me*
Katsuki looked on as an uncountable amount of pro heroes, policemen and paramedics lifted the rubble off of the redhead and pulled him, or whatever was left of him, on a stretcher.
The walk back home was strenuous. Katsuki never knew how quickly one could run out of tears. His head was pounding, and his breaths were shallow. Every once in a while he would stop and lean his weight on a nearby wall or car to recenter his footing. The night was unnaturally cold for June, so much so, the blonds huffed breaths forced tiny clouds out. The phone he had to run to his house to grab buzzed, he threw it behind him. His steps we're purely instinctual, he just knew where he was going. Replacing his left shoe were shards of glass or rock. Whatever it was, he didn't have the energy to stop and look down. He tasted blood in his mouth, soon accompanied with slightly salty but bitter tears. Wasn't he out of those? Soon enough his feet could feel the ruffle of a welcome mat. He twisted the door nob. Locked. His pat around his body and froze.
-
"Katsuki! I can't find them!" Kirishima yelled from the living room. He was lifting up the couch cushions, and then he started lifting the couch. What an adorable idiot.
"Find what?" Katsuki questions, he walks out of the steamy bathroom and into the living room, with nothing but towels around his waist and hung around his shoulders.
"...the keys," Kirishima says, smiling a looking away.
"The keys." Katsuki takes a deep breath, Kirishima is already prepared for an earful.
"I didn't buy and hang the key holder right in front of the fucking door for decoration Kirishima! Fuck, you're the one who picked out the color!"
Kirishima winced, he hadn't checked the key holder, had he?
The redhead sprang up and ran to the door, playfully smiling as he dug his hand into the red key dish next to the coat hanger to find the keys sitting there. Who would have known?
"False alarm! I've found them!"
Bakugou smiled. "Pathetic." he joked. Leaving the room to change but before he could reach the door Kirishima clutched on to his shoulders. Katsuki turned, just in time to see Kirishima yank the towel off of his waist.
"What the fuck!" he yelled, reaching for the towel, Kirishima lifted it high over his head, laughing uncontrollably.
"Take it back!" the other teased, making wrist motions like he would throw the towel, which Katsuki was sure he wouldn't, he knew that was the blonds favorite towel! He wouldn't dirty it on purpose, right?
"Fuck you! It's true! Now give it back! It's fucking cold!"
Kirishima only held it higher.
"Geez! You're not pathetic! Now give my damn towel!" Katsuki asserted. He tried to scowl, but no other facial expression could clear the smile he had on his face.
The other hummed. "I'm not satisfied. M' still pretty upset with you."
Katsuki groaned, but it sounded more like a chuckle than he intended.
He rolled his eyes and kissed the bridge of Kirishima's nose, his left cheek and then his right, planting the last on the other's lips. Soft lips kissed back, as best he could through a huge smile.
"Wow, look at this, you've been forgiven!" Kirishima said. He smiled so hard it wrinkled his face. He handed Katsuki his towel, smiling, the other turned to finally get changed.
"Katsuki wait!"
"Huh?"
Kirishima smiled brighter. Blinding.
"I love you."
Chuckling Katsuki flipped the redhead off.
"I love you more, bitch."
"Impossible."
His tone was serious, his smile faded into a more serious visage.
"I don't think I'll ever love anyone as much as I love you, Katsuki,"
The blond blushed and mumbled a "you too" before escaping into his room. He was sure his heart shouldn't beat this fast. He was sure his legs shouldn't give out due to a couple of words, but here he was. He felt as if he were on cloud nine.
Once Katsuki was dressed and ready to go he walked to the front door, where Kirishima was already waiting.
"Rrrrready to go Bakubabe?" he asked
"Yep. Oh, Wait."
"Huh?"
"Gimme the keys," Katsuki said with a grin
"Huh why?" Kirishima took the keys and clutched them to his chest tightly.
"Because you'll lose them asshole! Gimme em'"
"No! I'm gonna prove to you that I am responsible enough to handle keys!"
Katsuki snickered. "Oh, will you?"
"Mmhm! Watch me!" Kirishima declared as he bolted out of the door. He quickly ran back though, as he forgot to lock it.
-
Katsuki's knees buckled, he fell on the front door mat and landed with a thump He had what he wanted and he took it for granted. He held his head with his hands and tried to focus on his breathing, but watch attempt only drove him further into his thoughts. He thought about how terrible he was for Ejirou during his last moments, and how on the phone with police he could barely release a sentence. The only thing that didn't come to mind was the spare key he was sitting on.
it's your fault.
"No."
it's your fucking fault he's fucking dead.
"Please."
weak.
"I can't-"
It should've been you.
Katsuki hit his head on the door and sunk further down with a sob. His chest hurt, inside and out. He was on the floor now, practically curled up in a ball, he preferred having a headache, now he just feels empty. Like watching Ejirou's eyes fade away took all of his heart to, and his liver, it stripped him of his spine, any and all nervous systems float away with that pure soul.
Reality seemed to hit him, again and again, every few seconds.
He's gone
Repeatedly. And it only dug out more of his guts every time.
Fears that he never noticed he had flooded into his imagination.
Katsuki feared being alone. After the two got married it wasn't often he spent time in solitude, but when he did, he always spent his time wondering when Ejirou would be coming home.
he's never going to come home.
Would Ejirou be mad? Surely this isn't manly.
Katsuki thought, hell, he even wanted to smile, but each sound came out as a gasp for air. Clear air, air only contaminated by Kirishima's heavy sent.
He struggled for a clear breath. At every sigh of relief, a hiccup would always take its place.
He felt like he was drowning. Like his body was fully submerged, not water, lead. He felt like the weight of all his wrongdoings in his life came around to haunt him once more.
Taking Ejirou away as a welcoming gift.
His limbs were simultaneously a puddle and tense. His head dipped in fatigue but shot back up in sorrow. Soon enough, there he lay, asleep, on the ground, with a body full of regret.
-
"Oh my God, Mina, he is here."
"Fuck, poor baby."
"Katsuki, Wake up."
Katsuki awoke and shivered. Realization wasting no time to ruin him once more. He had to scrape at the mess in his eyes before he could open them, recognizing Kaminari and Mina's voice, he stared at them.
The expected him to talk, scowl, anything, but he laid still, outside the front door with various mosquito bites and a foot covered in blood.
Kaminari helped him stand, and balance his right foot in his state of vertigo.
Mina felt tears weld in her eyes when she saw the spare key was still under the welcome mat. She took a breath and opened the door, holding it for the other two as they walked inside.
Before Katsuki knew it, he was sitting in the bathroom, on the rim of the bathtub. It took him no time to look at Kirishima's shampoo bottle and return to his broken state. He cried, Griping a fistful of his hair and pulling tightly.
"Dude, stop that, your hair is very nice," Kaminari said.
The words where muffled Katsukis ears, but he let go anyway, finally finding his hands to tightly grip his face instead.
"So is your face," Kaminari mumbled, but he didn't think the blond would listen to him twice in a row. Instead, he looked down at the other's swollen foot.
"I'm going to make him and -------- something to eat, I think they both need it." mina whispered.
Katsuki failed to hear, he felt like he needed to cry instead.
"Mk'"
Kaminari found a stool and put a towel on it, he made sure it wasn't Katsukis towel, the last thing he needed was to hurt the blond more.
He lifted Katsukis foot who grunted in between sobs. His foot was beyond swollen, begging for attention, he was surprised that it hadn't fallen off during the cold night. Kaminari sighed, he felt the need to cry but held back for his friend's sake.
Kaminari looked under the bathroom sink and grabbed hydrogen peroxide, cotton balls, and an elastic bandage. It was at this time he was very grateful for the medical things he learned in UA, he didn't use the skill often, but when he did, great things happen.
"This is gonna hurt dude."
Katsuki didn't respond.
Kaminari washes his hands and picked off loose rubble off of his foot, between his toes and the bottom. Once done he grabbed a coldwater battle and chugged it, refilling it with warm water from the sink. He temporarily moved the other's foot on the tub and slowly poured the water on it, so he didn't accidentally hurt him In the process. Moving the foot one last time he sat it on the fluffy towel-covered stool and narrowed his eyes to get a clearer look. His foot had pieces of rubble and glass lodged into it. He looked around and found tweezers. For a second, his eyes met Katsuki's, and he felt the urge to break down with him, but he didn't, instead, he softly squeezed the blonds foot to free the first piece of rubble. Katsuki's head shot up with a choked sob, he gripped his hair with on hand and his chest with his other. Right, where his heart could be. Bit after bit, debris fell out of the limb, other times Kaminari had to pluck or squeeze them out, those times were the worse.
In the end, his hands were bloody and dirty, polluted with rocks and glass. He washed his hands again for the umpteenth time and carefully patted on a little hydrogen peroxide to his wounds. When he was done, he carefully wrapped it in an elastic bandage and made sure it was tight, but not to tight so it stayed on.
Last but not least was his bug bites.
"Hey, how you guys holding up, m' done so how can I help?"
"Yeah, could you get him some new clothes?" Kaminari asked Mina who nodded and walked away.
Once again Kaminari washed his hands and looked at the blond, he was still sobbing into his hands.
"Katsuki?"
Nothing.
Kaminari sighed.
Mina looked around the room, for a dresser, once she found it she looked intently at the hoodie before her. Would Katsuki feel better if it was his sweatshirt? Or would that hurt him more?
When Mina returned she tried to talk to the blond too, maybe ask of his opinion, but he didn't utter a word.
"We're going go have to dress him."
"He isn't going 't shower?"
Kaminari shook his head "his bandage is on, and I don't think I want him alone."
Mina nodded and lifted the blond's arms. He allowed Kaminari to lift his the shirt of his hero suit off of his head. All of his accessories were missing, the most notable being his gauntlets. Mina couldn't help but wonder what happened to them.
Ashido wiped his torso down with a warm wet cloth and Kaminari followed with varying dosages of Neosporin.
Next, we're his pants, they were a little loose on him, so they took no time to pull them off, cautious of his foot.
Mina got a new washcloth and eyed katsuki's face. She reached out, and removed his hands and wiped gently at his blood-covered cheek. This blood wasn't his. The thought made Ashido shiver.
Once he was clean they dressed him in some loose shorts, it was much warmer outside, and they didn't want to risk putting clothing anywhere near his foot. Mina took a breath and forces Katsukis eyes into hers.
"I've got this sweatshirt. Dyu' wanna... wear it?"
Katsuki sobbed more, his headache more of a tolerate able feeling now. His hands were trembling, he barely managed to reach out and take it, Kaminari helped him put it over his head, it was a weird feeling. Bittersweet. But it didn't stop him from sobbing some more.
"Are you hungry?" mina asked, katsuki shook his head.
"Mk, let's go."
Before he knew It katsuki was in the backseat of a car, his foot was propped up with some pillows, and his seatbelt was on loosely. He didn't bother asking where they were going, he couldn't actually bring himself to care.
The blonds heart stopped when they arrived at a hospital, Katsuki hates hospitals, they make him nervous. The smell of an overabundance of hand sanitizer and latex made him want to vomit, just thinking of it makes him curl his toes in disgust. Mina and Kaminari helped him out of the backseat and shut the door behind him. Katsuki looked around as best he could with tear-filled eyes. His foot was bad, but he didn't think he should be at the emergency medical center.
Inside was empty enough for Katsuki to feel safe in his friends hold. He was sure they were partially carrying him now like he didn't want to claim ownership of his useless limbs.
"Thanks, Sero," Kaminari said. Sero had given him crutches.
"Of course, when you called and asked for me to bring crutches down I got anxious. How is he?"
Sero looked at Katsuki. The blonds hair was ruffled and his eyes were unpleasantly red, he was still crying. But he shielded his face in his sweatshirt.
"He... We can talk about it later." mina muttered. She started to cry and gestured for Sero to take over her side of Katsuki, which he did.
Mina spoke to the receptionist.
"Yes, that was me who called earlier, so can that be arranged?"
"Most likely, um, " she typed at her keyboard. "Katsuki Bakugou. Correct?"
Mina nodded.
"Oh! He's the-! We were wondering when he would come! Of course, that can be arranged! Second floor, room 309. We'll send a nurse to check on him asap!"
"Thank you, miss." Mina wiped at her eyes, and walked to the elevator, gesturing for the boys to come along, they did. Carrying Katsuki with them
The elevator ride was painfully quiet, Katsuki noted. Silence wasn't normal when he was around these three, And that hurt, the lack of normally hurt. He clenched his fist and cried again.
Katsuki finally took a breath and took the crutches that were now in Mina's hands, he began to walk, stumble, and walk again. The three followed Mina in the painfully glossy white corridors until they reached room "309." Katsuki hates hospitals, and he was ready to go home and lock himself in forever.
Katsuki felt the need to physically recoil his body when he opened the door. All of class 1-A and more were inside, teachers, parents. Too many people. The room was fairly large, but it definitely wasn't fit to hold this many bodies. All he did was hurt his foot, that didn't cause for such a get-together, he didn't like it. But he let out a loud suffocated sob when he remembered who would.
The sound silenced the room. Katsuki could see a mix of faces some looking surprised, sympathetic, and even happy.
"What was that?" asked a voice.
Katsuki's heart skidded to a stop along with his breath. He dropped the crutches and forgot to blink his widened eyes. Someone giggled. But it went unnoticed by the blond. Katsuki stood his ground and questioned his thoughts. Was he hearing things?
"Guys seriously you know I can't see the door from here... Wait-"
Katsuki huffed and sprinted his way across the room, he could feel his foot bleeding in the bandage, but he didn't care. He ran past a bed and multiple people before he reached a slightly drawn curtain, he pushed past it and held on to the fabric for dear life.
"Bakubabe!" Kirishima cried, one of his arms had a cast on it, and his bare stomach was wrapped in tons of bandages. He sat up quickly, which made tons of wires fall off of him, he coughed and smiled. Katsuki wiped his eyes and slammed his face into the other's chest, he hugged him tightly, arms hooked over his shoulders in a careful manner. He sobbed, harder than he ever has before.
"I thought- you fucking idiot!" Katsukis voice was so raspy and hoarse it pained him to speak, Kirishima kissed him everywhere he could reach and used his capable arm to hug back.
By the time Katsuki left UA involuntary explosions creeping out of his hand never happened, but now, he was almost afraid he would explode the entire hospital.
"You goddamn-" was all he could mutter before he sneezed. It was loud and accompanied with a sob, a laugh bubbled out of Kirishima's chest, that's all Katsuki wanted to hear, so that's all he chose to hear.
"Shhhh suki, fuck I missed you."
"It's true, the only thing he asked and talked about was you, even while he was being tended to in the ambulance. I'm pretty sure the entire hospital staff knows your name by now." the nurse laughed. Katsuki didn't hear her.
"N-next-t-time-you-fuck-ing-do-thatimgonnakillyou," katsuki spoke between sobs.
Kirishima laughed again. "I'm sorry!"
Katsuki smiled. "I don't know, M' still pretty upset with you."
Kirishima kissed the bridge of his nose and on his cheeks, one firm kiss on his lips made him smile.
"Now forgive you."
"You'd better."
"I love you," Katsuki said, he found himself sitting comfortably In the other's lap.
"I love you more."
"Fucking impossible."
