Part 35: So Close
I woke up handcuffed to a pole in a basement. I loooked carefully around to study the place and see if there's some type of weapon or way out. I don't even know what took me. There was a window on the back wall, it was so tiny. The room was plain all except for a window, the pole, and the dreadfully long stairs that lead to a door. I heard screaming, then the door opened. A girl was dragged down the stairs and handcuffed to the pole with me. The figure came back moments later and threw something down the stairs. It was a body. Poor girl. She couldn't have been older than me. The girl next to me was hysterical. "Whatever you do, just listen to him. It's the only way to stay alive", she said through tears. I nodded my head. The figure walked down the stairs. "What are you?", I blurted. He smiled and sat across from me. "I'm just a man. Will you be my friend?", he said scooting closer to me. I shook my head, "No. Let me out of here." His face turned red. The girl next to me ducked. He unhandcuffed me and drug me up the stairs by my hair. Sometimes, even in my line of work, humans are capable of the worst things. He let go of my hair and threw clothes on the ground for me. "Change into these", he ordered. I obeyed. He looked away as I did. He gave me skinny jeans and a black blouse. He threw his arm around me. "Do you want to watch a movie? My other friends are busy." I kneed him in the stomache and ran for the door. It was locked and by the time I had it open, he slammed it shut and grabbed me. He put a gag in my mouth and threw me on the ground. "Listen. Your past life is gone. I am your life now. You're going to be my friend. You have 3 chances here and once the third is up, you die. You will refer to me as Master. That was your first slip up", he said holding a rifle to my head. I realized how nuts this guy is. He slammed the butt of the gun into my head. Then, he pulled the gag off and sat me on the couch. Things were dizzy and splitting pain was all over my body. He clicked a button and he laughed a lot, so I assumed he put on a comedy. But I couldn't see anything on the screen. I swear he was looking at a blank Tv screen. After about an hour, he looked at me and said, "Oh, friend. That was nice." Then he walked me back down the stairs and handcuffed me again. "I'll see you tomorrow!", he said enthusiastically. I yanked at the handcuffs before seeing something. My chance to escape. The dead girl had bobby pins in her hair. Perfect. That's what I used to get out of the cuffs when I was with The Winchesters. The only question was how to get to the body and how to save this girl beside me while saving myself. The boys can't help me now. I have to figure things out. A voice inturrupted my thoughts. "I'm Claire. I've been here for a long time. But I don't know how long." I yanked at the cuffs, "I'm (y/n). I am going to get us out of here." She spoke in a monotone, "I used to have that spark." I raised an eyebrow, "Yeah. What changed?" She moved closer to me, "I used all three of my chances on the first day. I can't die. I have family back home. I have a scholarship and a boyfriend." A tear ran down my face for her, "I'll get you back to them. I have family, too. Look, somehow I have to get those bobby pins and I can pick the lock. Then, we can go through the window." Her face dropped, "That girl thought she could escape. He beats us once a day, you know. He does it to show us who is boss. But, I think he's just a lonely man who was bullied into being this way." I like Claire. She is nice and doesn't deserve this. I fell asleep before her. I woke in the middle of the floor being kicked. I crawled away to the body. I grabbed the pins and put them in my pocket, quickly. I spit blood and he was satisfied. "Leave her alone!", Claire shouted. She didn't have to do that. I could take it. He cuffed me back up. "That was your last chance. I really liked you Claire", he said pulling a gun. "No! Don't!", I screamed. I grabbed Claire's hand and she whispered, "Get back to your family. Do it for me. Take my necklace when you leave. You are a good person." I squeezed her hand. I heard a gunshot and I started screaming. Blood stained my face and shirt. He left her beside me. I let go of her hand. "Claire!", I screamed. He shot her in the head. I cried for the next hour probably. I've been here for weeks. The boys seem like a distant memory. Every day is the same. Daily beatings. Rotting corpses beside me. I haven't found the right time to escape, yet. He takes me out once a day to eat or stare at a blank screen or some other crazy activty. I never protest. I have seen him murder in cold blood. He never comes in at night. It's night now, and I'm ready to leave. I scooted close to the pole and grabbed the pins. It took me ten minutes to pick the lock. I took the necklace off Claire and shoved it in my pocket. I moved to the window and opened it. I heard footsteps. He was coming. He opened the door and saw me at the window. "This is strike three. You're out.", he said walking down the stairs. No. I'm so close. He pulled out a gun.
