maknae eats first!

You x Yoonchae

It was a quiet evening in the dorm. The air was filled with the subtle sound of rain tapping against the windows, providing the perfect backdrop for a calm, intimate dinner. Y/N and Yoonchae had just finished setting the table, placing bowls of steaming food on the polished wooden surface. The table was simple, but filled with comfort food that smelled divine—spicy kimchi stew, bulgogi, and a bowl of freshly steamed rice. The kitchen had been busy with chatter and laughter earlier, but now everything had settled into a peaceful rhythm.

Y/N sat down first, eagerly eyeing the dishes in front of her. She loved moments like these—the cozy dinners shared with the people closest to her. As she reached for the chopsticks to dig into the bulgogi, Yoonchae, the youngest member of their group, stood by the table, her hands resting on her hips with a teasing glint in her eyes.

"Y/N, wait!" Yoonchae's voice was playful but firm.

Y/N paused mid-motion, looking up at her with raised brows. "What's up, Yoonchae?" she asked, already amused by the cute pout forming on the younger girl's face.

Yoonchae shuffled closer, hands still on her hips, her lips curling into a mischievous smile. "The maknae eats last," she declared, her tone almost like an elder scolding a child. "You're supposed to wait for me to eat first."

Y/N blinked in surprise, taken aback by the sudden reminder. "Wait, what? Since when do I have to wait for you?" She chuckled, thinking that Yoonchae was just playing around, but the younger girl was serious—her eyes wide with mock sternness.

"You always do this," Yoonchae said, though there was a softness to her voice that hinted she wasn't really upset. "I'm the youngest. You know the rules. The maknae gets the first bite."

Y/N, ever the older member, raised her hands in mock surrender. "Alright, alright, I get it. I'll wait. But you have to promise me you'll eat a lot, okay? You haven't been eating enough lately," she added with a bit of concern in her voice, already knowing Yoonchae's tendency to forget meals when she's busy with practice or work.

Yoonchae's face softened immediately at the gentle reminder. "I will, I promise!" she said, a sincere smile spreading across her face. She had to admit, Y/N's caring side always made her feel at ease. "Thank you, Y/N."

Y/N gave her a small nod before settling back in her seat, picking up her chopsticks but not bringing them to her mouth just yet. She had learned over the years that this little game, as amusing as it was, was important to Yoonchae. It was a part of their bond, a way to respect the hierarchy that had developed organically within their group.

Yoonchae finally took her seat across from Y/N, her eyes sparkling as she looked down at the spread of food. "Okay, okay, now I can eat," she said, smiling brightly. But before she could grab her chopsticks, she suddenly paused and looked up at Y/N.

"You know, I've been thinking," Yoonchae began, her tone turning more serious, though there was still that warmth in her voice. "I really appreciate how you always look out for me. You're always the first to remind me to eat or take care of myself. I know I can be a little... forgetful about that stuff."

Y/N gave her a soft smile, putting down her chopsticks for a moment to give the younger girl her full attention. "You're not the only one, Yoonchae. We all need a little reminding sometimes. Besides, what are older sisters for?" Her voice had a teasing edge to it, but there was genuine affection in her gaze.

Yoonchae flushed a little at the mention of being "like an older sister" but didn't shy away from the sentiment. "I'm glad you're here," she said quietly, her eyes meeting Y/N's. "It's nice to have someone to take care of me, especially when things get busy."

Y/N chuckled softly, feeling a sense of warmth bubble up in her chest. "Well, it's not just me. We all look out for each other. That's what makes us family, right?"

Yoonchae nodded enthusiastically, before finally reaching for her chopsticks. "Right! Family," she repeated, as if reaffirming the bond they shared.

As the meal began, the two of them fell into an easy rhythm. Yoonchae would occasionally glance up at Y/N, making sure she was enjoying the food just as much as she was. The atmosphere between them was light and filled with laughter, the kind of relaxed evening that reminded them of how far they'd come together as a group.

At one point, Yoonchae looked over at Y/N's bowl, noticing that the older girl had finished her bulgogi. She smiled and grabbed the serving spoon, making sure to scoop a generous portion of the dish onto Y/N's plate. "Here, I saved some for you," she said, her voice filled with sweetness.

Y/N raised her eyebrows, surprised by the thoughtful gesture. "You didn't have to do that. You've already eaten," she said, but her smile widened in appreciation.

"It's fine," Yoonchae replied, her tone light. "I wanted to. It's the least I can do since you've been taking care of me."

The dinner continued with small moments like that—simple but meaningful gestures that reflected their closeness. As they finished eating, Yoonchae leaned back in her chair with a content sigh, her eyes closing for a brief moment. "I feel so full," she said softly, her voice a little dreamy.

Y/N grinned and pushed her plate away. "Good. You deserve it. Now, are you going to help me with the dishes, or should I remind you that the older sister also has some privileges?"

Yoonchae's eyes shot open in playful alarm, and she quickly jumped to her feet, rushing to collect the plates. "Okay, okay! I'll do the dishes! No need to remind me, unnie!" she said, laughing as Y/N watched her, amusement dancing in her eyes.

Y/N sat back in her seat, a satisfied smile on her face. It was these quiet, small moments that made everything worthwhile—the reminders, the care, the love. In their own way, they were creating something special, something that would last far beyond any stage or performance.

"Maknae," Y/N said, her voice soft and full of affection as she watched Yoonchae bustle around, her playful energy filling the room. "You're really something special."

Yoonchae glanced back at her, cheeks flushed. "You too, Y/N. You too."

And with that, the evening went on, just as it had started—quiet, comfortable, and full of love.
