Chapter 6

"Morning," Alex's voice was extremely deep and croaky as he stretched, trying to wake himself up.

"That's distracting," Devin mumbled. "Please shut up, I can't stand how appealing your voice is." He let out a deep laugh just as she tried to get up. Alex let out a sound of protest before wrapping his arms around her waist, keeping her from getting up.

"It's too early for this, please go back to sleep, princess." He nuzzled his head back into her neck as he got comfortable again.

"My horoscope says no. Besides you've already said good morning, it's time to get up." She struggled to get out of his grip.

"What time is it?"

"Half past get the hell up," she told him before trying to get up again.

"Struggle all you want, princess, but we aren't going anywhere for a while." He chuckled.

"Why?"

"Could you please?" That was all he said. Devin sighed and turned her body around to face him, struggling to turn in this arms. He squinted one eye open, a tired grin appearing on his face. "Was that so hard?" She glared at him. His right arm was under her body while his left was resting on her waist. Her hands were bunched up in between them.

"Shut up."

"No, c'mon, princess. You like the sound of my voice," he teased.

"I don't like your tone." She tried to shake her head, but to Alex, it just looked like she was shoving her face deeper into the pillow.

"No, you love it." He leaned closer and kissed her forehead, something he always seemed to be doing more of since the pretending started.

"Does Scott still think we're lying? I mean, we are...But does he think so?"

"I don't know, he might be thinking that something is going on, but we haven't been giving him much to go on." He shrugged.

"So, we need to step it up a notch?"

"I guess." He took his left hand off her waist and rubbed his forehead.

"Hung over?"

"Yeah." He nodded.

"Weakling," she teased.

"Just because you can't get drunk-"

"I'm not saying that's the reason why you're weak. I'm not comparing us, I'm just stating a fact, Alex. You. Are. Weak." She smiled at him, innocently.

"We both know that's a lie." He rested his hand back on her waist.

"Maybe..."

"Is that a challenge?"

"Maybe later, right now I'm hungry, and I want coffee," she told him before getting up, this time he didn't try to stop her, instead he just watched as she got up with a smile on his face. He let out a laugh and buried his face into the pillow. "What now, Summers?" She turned to face him as she stretched.

"That's uh, that's my shirt, and only my shirt," his voice was muffled by the pillow, a small evident on his face, though.

"What?" Her voice was quiet as she looked down. "And so it is." She looked back up to him. He moved himself to sit up against the headboard, his arms crossed, his hair everywhere, a dopey look on his face, his legs crossed at the ankles, only in his boxers.

"Just give me a minute to get dressed and have a shower and I'll go down with you to get something." Devin nodded at him and picked up his clothes, placing them on the bed. "Thanks for last night," he called out as she walked into the bathroom to turn the shower on, heating the water up.

"No problem, macho man." She grinned as she leaned against the doorway of the bathroom.

"Macho man?" He laughed. "I thought I was Rapunzel?"

"Check your knuckles." She smirked as he looked down and groaned. "You fought for my honour," she teased as Alex tilted his body to one side, laying back on the bed with a groan.

"Shut up."

"No, c'mon, macho man. You like the sound of my voice." She teased again, he threw the pillow at her, which she dodged. He got up, picking his clothes and shoes, walking over to her, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

"I don't know how I put up with you." He smiled as he left her room to go to his.

"Neither do I." She smiled as she closed the bathroom door to go have her shower.

"You can't keep microwaving peeps, Peter, they melt and get all over the insides. It's annoying having to clean up after you," Devin heard Jubilee whine in the kitchen from the top of the stairs. She glanced at Alex who shrugged.

"Put your hand on my hip," she told him quietly.

"Okay."

"I said hip, not ass, Alex." He grinned. "Just wrap it around my waist." She shook her head at him as his arm moved to her waist.

"You love me." He rested his head on top of hers.

"I put up with you," she answered back. "There's a difference," she continued.

"Which is?"

"Tolerance."

They both walked down the rest of the stairs and into the kitchen, Jubilee was trying to clean the microwave while Peter was licking melted peeps off his fingers. Scott and Jean were sitting at the kitchen island eating the remaining cereal. Scott looked up just as they walked in.

"This can't be real." He placed his spoon down.

"What can't?" Jean questioned, Scott pointed to Devin and Alex. "Yeah it can, when I first met them I thought they were already dating." She shrugged, while Scott twitched, turning his head to her. "What?" She let out a small laugh while continuing to eat her cereal.

"Them? You thought they were already dating?" She nodded. Scott stared at her intently, Jean becoming slightly uncomfortable with it. "Read their minds," Scott demanded, she looked at him before looking at both Devin and Alex.

"I don't want to." She shook her head.

"Why not?"

"Because I don't want to read their minds, Scott. Who knows what they could be thinking about..." She shuddered, causing Devin to snort a laugh.

"You could!" He yelled in annoyance. "I don't care if it could be dirty I want to know if they are really dating." He huffed.

"Then ask." She looked at him weirdly.

"Scott, you're the plague." Devin glared at him while going to the coffee pot. "Want coffee, macho man?" Devin grinned at turned her head to Alex.

"I don't like that nickname, princess." He shook his head.

"Aw, babe, did I hurt your feelings by giving you a nickname that doesn't describe you at all, weakling?" She teased as the coffee heated up.

"Princess, you don't know what you've gotten yourself into. This is war." He pointed at her before walking over, trapping her body against the counter with his, poking her sides before he went to grab two cups.

"They are so dating," Jubilee spoke up as she continued to clean the microwave.

"No, they aren't," Scott grumbled.

"Eat your cereal, little boy," Devin told him as she poured the coffee into the cups.

"I'm not a little boy!"

"Fill a cup up with your tears so I can drink them, little boy. Gotta keep hydrated," she joked as she passed him an empty cup.

"Real mature." He smiled sarcastically before pouring milk into the cup to drink.

"Scott!" Jean yelled, startling him, making him snort milk into his nose.

"What?"

"That was the last of the milk," she told him.

"I'll go to the shops after my coffee, I'll get more milk. Do you need anything from the shops?" Devin asked while Peter opened the fridge. "Where the hell is the food?" She asked him loudly.

"I'm a growing boy." Peter shrugged.

"You're an animal," Jubilee scolded as he glanced at him.

"I'll go shopping with you," Jean spoke up as she put her bowl in the sink. "Let me just get dressed quickly." Devin nodded as she quickly left the room.

"You aren't dating," Scott said again, Devin slid him another cup, which he slid back. "I'm not filling it with my tears." He sighed.

"Okay, well if you're hanging out with Jean, then me and Scott will do something," Alex spoke up as he finished his coffee. "Sound good?" He looked to Scott.

"Yeah, sounds good." Scott nodded. Devin quickly drunk the rest of her coffee, feeling the burning liquid go down before it numbed.

"Okay well I need to put shoes on, and I'm stealing your leather jacket." She patted Alex's chest before leaving the room. She really hoped that Jean wouldn't read her mind and find out that it was just pretend. Maybe a small part of her didn't want it to be, and not just because Scott would be gloating about being right.
