Chapter One
I sat on my bed in my room, everything I needed was placed neatly in front of me. Slowly, I looked up, glancing at the various spaces in my room where the walls were rotting. I always felt alone in these kind of situations because whenever my friends came over, they would instantly tell me how beautiful my room was, and how was it that I got to live in a mansion?
I never understood what they meant until my parents told me why we moved away from our hometown. I always just thought my friends were just being nice to not make me feel bad, but apparently, that wasn't the case. It seemed they had all gotten a hold of the most dangerous drug this world has heard of; Pristine.
Pristine was a drug that messed with your brain, making you believe everything around you was perfect, slowly, as time went on and you thought you were just getting more and more perfect, you were actually destroying yourself and eventually; You die.
My parents thought they were protecting me and my siblings, but no, that wasn't the case. They were just making us get closer and closer to the place were the drug originally came to surface. My dad thought it was his work that had started this drug, he was wrong. Oh, so very wrong.
"Lily!" I looked at my younger sister, Kayla, standing in the doorway. "Gosh, pay attention when someones talking to you. Anyways, mom said you need to go take the trash out."
I nodded, standing up and pushing past here, "Alright." I really hated taking the trash out, not only because the trash smelled, but because so many people were always outside when I went out there. I just wondered, what exactly are they seeing?
One can only dream about what they see. Their were barely any people left in the world who hadn't taken the drug, but that was only about three percent of the worlds population. The rest. . . was gone. Lost in the world that Pristine made up for them.
I grabbed the trash and quickly went outside, hurrying in case anyone decided to stop me today. I hated looking at the way Pristine made people. It was as if their whole life was being sucked from their bodies and no one could do anything to stop it. There was no cure, so there was no way out.
Throwing the trash bag into the dumpster on the side of our house, I did one quick glance around the city. I watched as a piece of a building broke off and fell to the ground, a loud sound resounding throughout the area. Yet, it didn't seem to bother everyone around it, they all carried on as if nothing had happened.
"Lily!" My mother called from the house, and I hurried back inside. My mother was waiting in the living room, watching outside from the window.
"I told you not to stay outside for too long, dear. I know, it's not possible to get the drug in your system from the air, but still, someone could easily come up and offer it to you. I don't want that happening to you, Lily," She stated, fixing my shirt since it was slightly crooked, then patted my shoulder. "Now, come help me with dinner. There won't be much today, the store finally gave in yesterday and collapsed. I don't know how we're going to get food now. . . Oh, we'll worry about that another day, come on."
I smiled slightly at my mom's rambling and followed her into the kitchen. Kayla was still to young to cook, and my brother is with my father, they work with the government and are trying to find out everything they can about Pristine.
"Alright mom, what do we have?" My mom hurried over to the cabinets on the other side of the room, pressing the code into the little box we had. I know my mom worried everyday if my dad and brother were going to come back normal, or be caught in their acts and forced to take Pristine.
I watched, fascinated, as the cabinet slide back into the wall, and slowly the walls started to part. Our family, since my dad and brother worked with the government, had the most advanced technology that no one else, besides the others from the government, had. It amazed me how they still had yet to find out that we hadn't taken Pristine yet.
I followed my mother into the room on the other side of the wall and waited for her to pick something that we could eat, "I'm only going in here, Lilly, because we have nothing we can cook out there. Don't tell your father I did this."
"I know, mom. I won't tell him, I promise."
My mom chose something simple, hot dogs and hamburgers, just so my dad wouldn't be suspicious.
My dad was a wise man, and he could easily tell when someone was lying to him. Everyone respected him, even the people of the government.
"Start boiling the water , dear, while these defrost." My mother said, quickly pressing the code back into the box and the walls once again began closing.
I nodded, getting a pot out from under the sink, and filling it with water. Once the water was on the stove, my mother made me leave the room, probably to collect herself. My mom usually never did anything without asking the consent of my dad first, but getting food from the store room was a big no.
I went quietly to the living room, sitting on the window sill and watched people walk by our house as if nothing was wrong in their lives. I was about to turn away until I saw a women with two children, one being my age and the other looking at least six years old.
I watched in horror as the six year old feel to the ground and the other two carried on like nothing had happened. I knew I wasn't supposed to helped those that had been drugged, but, I couldn't just leave a poor innocent child out on the streets.
I ignored my mother calling for me and ran outside and towards the little girl. Her brown hair was flying everywhere because of the wind, and her rosy cheeks indicated she was still alive, but for how long?
I carefully picked up the little girl, and ran back into my house. My mother was standing in the doorway of the kitchen and as soon as she saw the little girl in my arms, she dropped the pot of boiling water she was carrying.
I carefully walked into the living room and placed the girl on the couch and ran into the kitchen, getting a glass of water and some medicine that was fit for a child. After I had given the child the medicine and water, I sat on the floor next to her and waited for her to awake.
Once she did, I was met with the eyes of a person who had been given Pristine.

I literally only spent two hours writing this, but I love it and I can't wait to write more for this book, because I feel like it's going to be awesome!
Also, watch that preview thing I made on the side, it's pretty good if I do say so myself.
