Have you read Project Delta by RFLCTNS_8574 and wonder what's going to happen next for Delta? Or maybe you want to read a book about a Pokémon who is doing his best to be human? Then maybe you should look into Becoming Human as your next read. The story follows Delta, a Deoxys who's now a human, trying to fit in, but when he crosses paths with a boy named Tanner, feelings start to form. Coming from two different worlds, will they be able to overcome any obstacles that come their way? Only one way to find out!

Disclaimer from the Author

"This story has several LGBTQ+ characters; however, I will not use their sexual/gender orientation(s) so as to mock him (nor the LGBTQ+ community as a whole) in such a way."

Interview

This book has been requested by the author. The third book of the Lifelight Trilogy is currently being made, but the sequel can be read by itself without reading the first book, Project Delta. I'm excited that the writer has agreed to participate in an interview to talk more about their book.

JunieWeathers: What inspired you to write Becoming Human?

RFLCTNS_8574: The Lifelight Trilogy in general began with the concept of humans capable of transforming into Pokémon; the idea then evolved into the concept of Pokémon actually becoming Trainers themselves—and then I decided to expand on that idea with human forms; with all of the recent drama regarding the LGBTQ+ community, I wanted to make my cast more diverse by including characters that are homosexual, trans, queer, etc.

JW: That's awesome! From my personal experience, I understand that trilogies are hard to write. Why did you to want to expand Project Delta into the Lifelight Trilogy?

R:  I expanded Project Delta's storyline into the Lifelight Trilogy because I felt like there was more to add onto Delta and company's adventures, including expanding the series' universe to include the real world and the Pokémon world. As such, it would fit for a Pokémon who made the decision to not just conquer every existing Pokémon League, but also explore other worlds and embrace a human identity.

JW: That's really cool! What was your favorite thing about writing Becoming Human?

R: My favorite thing about writing this story was diversifying the characters in the story—the Gym Leaders and Elite Four members are LGBTQ+, for example. Speaking of LGBTQ+ characters, I feel like people need more than just typical protagonists that are of white origin and such; besides, there are several (online) stories out there with characters who bear different sexual orientation(s) and/or gender identities than others; as such, I want to include characters of various backgrounds to make my stories more interesting and whatnot.

JW: I'm so glad that you're willing to expand on that, creating a more diverse cast. What should readers look forward to when reading Becoming Human?

R:I feel like those who want to read Becoming Human should anticipate various Easter eggs and references scattered throughout the pages, as well as a great storyline overall.

Also, one of the characters speaks German quite fluently, so (some of) my readers might end up learning a few German phrases or two thanks to some of that character's dialogue.

JW: That's awesome. Is there anything else you would like to share about your book?

R:  I suggest you read the sequel to Becoming Human; entitled Undying Light, this story wraps up the trilogy as Delta and company face off against an ever-powerful entity known as the Influence, which has been a subtle threat to both the real world and Pokémon world...until now.

JW: Thank you for taking the time for an interview. Trilogies are hard to write, so if you're eager to read one that's a bit different, then I suggest looking into the Lifelight Trilogy if it peaks your interest.
