1963.
It was the first day of Fall as you were moving into a blue colored house in a suburban neighborhood in California. You recently graduated from college and decided to live an independent life somewhere else to start your career as a professional photographer. You've been taking pictures ever since you've been interested in photography during your freshman year in high school. While you were in college, you had your own photography business near your college campus to earn some money. After you graduated college, you had set a goal in your adventurous mind to travel the world or to find unexpected places to take pictures of that no one has ever seen before.
After you finished unpacking all of your stuff, you decided to explore the neighborhood and get to know more about it. You took your camera case that had your Nikon F camera inside it in case you see something interesting to take some pictures with and you rode your bicycle around the neighborhood. It looked very nice and the different colored houses looked very pretty. You noticed a group of women that looked like housewives outside talking, as if they were gossiping, when they saw you. Everything about the neighborhood was very nice, but it didn't inspire you to take any photographs.
As you were taking a break from riding your bicycle, you glanced up and you saw a dark mansion on top of the hill. It looked abandoned and it seemed like nobody lived inside it, which seemed like the perfect place to finally take photographs. Haunted mansions or manors always fascinated you, so you thought this was the perfect opportunity to capture something unexpected. You rode your bicycle down the street to look for a way up the hill. A couple minutes later, you reached the end of the street and you noticed an entrance way, with a broken rusty gate door on the ground. You got off your bicycle and you started walking, with your bicycle, towards the entrance and you started walking up the hill.
By the time you were at the top of the hill and you could see the mansion from the other side of the wall. You parked your bike by the gothic-like metal gates before you entered through them. You moved some vines that were hanging down on the gates. After you went through the gates, you observed what was in front of you. Shrubs and bushes carved into different types of animals, even one carved in the shape of a hand and different colorful flowers all around. "Wow. This is incredible. This is perfect." You whispered, as you smiled all around the wonderful sight in front of you, while you took your camera out of your case and started taking pictures.
"Wow. These are fantastic." You said to yourself, as you took a picture of the shrub that was in the shape of a hand. "Gosh, these shrubs and bushes look like they've been carved recently. It's like somebody did these not too long ago." You said to yourself, once again.
Then, after you finished taking some pictures of the shrubs and bushes, you glanced up at the mansion and was about to couple shots of the exterior. But before you could take a picture, for a split second, you saw something move away from the broken window. Your eyes widened a bit. 'Am I actually trespassing on someone's property? I thought this was abandoned.' You thought to yourself. "Hello? Hello, up there?" You called out. But nobody didn't answer or come back to the window.
You put your camera back into your case and walked up the steps towards the front door and saw a large door knocker on the door. You used it to knock on the door three times. After you knocked, you waited for someone to answer. But no one did. Then, you opened the door, slowly, and you walked inside. You walked down a couple of steps and you noticed all of the equipment and machinery that were covered in dust and cobwebs. 'This looks ancient. What is all this? I could've sworn I saw someone or something that apparently lives here.' You thought to yourself, once again.
Suddenly, you heard a creak coming from the large staircase from behind you. "Hello? Is someone up there?" You called out, as you turned and looked up at the staircase. Then, a shadow moved away and looked like it went further up the stairs. You gasped, slightly. 'Someone does live here. I need to apologize for intruding.' You thought to yourself, hesitatingly. "Hello, up there! I didn't mean to intrude. I'm sorry for coming into your home. I thought it was abandoned. I'm not here to cause trouble." You said, as you were walking up the long staircase. "Whoa, there's so many steps. Thank goodness for those Pilates." You added, feeling a little exhausted from climbing up from all those stairs.
When you got to the top, you looked around to see if someone was around, but all you found was another staircase around the corner. You walked up those stairs and it led you to a room that appeared to be the attic and it had a huge hole up on the roof. You looked around and saw a bed in the corner in what looked like the fireplace and it had newspaper clippings of people with unique features, like 'Boy born without eyes reads with his hands'. "Now I feel really bad for trespassing in someone's home." You whispered to yourself.
Then, you heard snipping sounds from the other side of the room. You turned around and saw a figure, in a shadowed corner. "Hello, over there. I'm so sorry for coming inside your home. I was only in here to take pictures. I'll just leave." You said, as you were about to turn around and leave. "Don't go." You heard the figure say, calm and softly. You turned around and you saw the figure coming towards you, slowly, from the shadowed corner. "Oh, okay. I was worried that you would be mad at me for—" You started to say, but when the figure stepped into the light, you noticed something about him that shocked you. He had scissors for hands. He wore a black leather outfit and he had little scars on his face and his black hair was messy. He also seemed timid and innocent.
He stopped in front of you, but not too close because of his scissor hands. "Who are you?" You asked. "Edward." He answered, calmly. "Edward." You said, quietly. "Who are you?" He asked, timidly. "My name is (y/n)." You answered, as you stepped a little closer towards him. He seemed a bit scared when you stepped forward. "It's okay. I won't hurt you, Edward." You said, which calmed him down. You looked down at his hands and you, hesitantly, reached your hand to touch blades of his hand, gently. "These are your hands?" You asked. "Yes." Edward answered. "Why do you have scissors for hands?" "I'm not finished." Edward said. You were confused on what he meant by that.
"Do you live here by yourself? Is there anyone else here with you?" Edward shook his head, slowly. "Where are your parents? Your Mother? Your father?" You asked. "He didn't wake up." Edward said. "Oh. I'm sorry to hear about that, Edward." You said, with sympathy in your voice. He looked down, sadly.
You thought about an idea for a second. Even though you just met him, you still felt horrible that he's an innocent being living in this abandoned mansion all by himself. "If you live here by yourself, why don't you leave this place? There's a neighborhood down the hill and you're more than welcome to stay at my house." You said. "I can't." Edward said, sadly. "Why not?" "Because everyone in the neighborhood thinks that I'm dead." Edward answered. You were shocked and confused after he said that. "Why would they think you're dead, Edward?" You asked.

"So, after Kim left, you never saw her or anyone from the neighborhood ever again?" You asked, after listening to Edward's whole explanation of why the neighborhood you live in thinks he's dead for twenty minutes. "Yes." Edward answered. "Aw, Edward. That's terrible having no one, especially Kim, not come up here to see you and you living up here by yourself. Those people down there had no right to treat you like that." You said. "It's okay, (y/n). I like it up here anyway. It's my home." Edward said. "Your home is very nice, Edward. I like how haunting it looks. That's why I came up here; to take photographs of unexpected places that people have never seen before." You said.
"Is that what that is?" Edward asked, pointing to your camera case. "Oh, yes. This is my camera." You said, as you took out your camera to show Edward. "This my Nikon F camera. I'm a photographer." You explained, while you held out your camera so Edward could see it. He looked at your camera, curiously, as if he's never seen one before. "Have you never seen a camera before, Edward? Even when you were living with the Boggs? Or have you seen any pictures?" You asked. "I've seen pictures, but not a camera like that one. What does it do?" He said. "It takes pictures. There are many different cameras, but I own this one because it's the only one I can afford for now until I get a new one. Here, I'll take a picture of you, Edward." You said, as you held the camera up to your face.
But as you were about to take the picture, Edward took a slight step back, looking nervous. You put down your camera and said, "There's no need to be nervous, Edward. It's not gonna hurt you. It's only gonna take a photo of you and that's it." Edward hesitated for a second, but, then, he took a step forward, but he still looked nervous in his face. "Would you like to smile for the camera, Edward?" You asked. But Edward hesitated. "Don't be shy, Edward. Give me a little smile." You encouraged him, as you held your camera up to your face. Then, he, slowly, gave you a small smile. "There you go, Edward." You said, and, then, you took a picture of him.
"See, that wasn't so bad, was it, Edward?" You said, as you put your camera away. "I guess so. It's just...no one, except Mrs. Boggs, taught me to not be so nervous or anything I didn't know about." Edward said. "Aw, Edward. It's okay. Those people down there from what you told me about sounded like they were horrible to you and all they did was use you. They don't realize that you're nothing like us, which is fine because you're unique. I can teach you some new things that no one has ever taught you." You told him. Edward smiled a little bit at you and said, "I would like that a lot, (y/n)."

For the next couple of months, you've been visiting Edward frequently to teach him some things that he was never taught in his life and give him some company since he couldn't leave the mansion so that none of the neighbors that remembers him doesn't see him. You taught him different types of emotions, items that made him curious to know about, and the facts about life, including what happened to his father when 'he didn't wake up'. Edward was sad about it for a bit, but he felt better after you explained it to him. You even taught him how to be careful with his scissor hands when he gets them near his face or near you so that neither one of you would get hurt.
You could tell that Edward was becoming more happy to have you around and having you teach him some new things. Even you were happy to be around Edward and be a friend to him. Well, in your mind, you saw him more than just a friend during the last two months with him. It was something that made your heart flutter and made you blush whenever Edward said something cute and commented to you, nicely.

Today was a slightly cold day in November as you were in the garden with Edward. He was tossing fallen multi-colored leaves in the air while you were taking photographs of him. He was smiling and laughing while he was having the time of his life and he was being very careful with his scissor hands. "Nice job, Edward. These pictures are gonna look great once I get them developed." You said. "I can't wait to see them, (y/n)." Edward said, as he tossed another pile of leaves in the air once again.
As you watched him tossing the leaves in the air, you smiled at his happiness. You've been thinking about it for a while and you thought today was the day that you would tell Edward how you felt about him. But you didn't know how to tell him.
"Um, Edward?" You said to get his attention. "Yes, (y/n)?" "Um, I have something I wanna tell you that I haven't had the guts to tell you." You said, sounding slightly nervous. "What is it, (y/n)?" You took a step closer towards him and said, "Edward, I have this fluttering feeling that I've been feeling in my heart for the past two months since I've been with you." Edward looked at you, confused. "Are you sick or does it hurt your heart, (y/n)?" He asked. You shook your head and said, "No. It's neither one of those, Edward. It's something that I can't really say out loud, but it's something I want to express to you." "Okay." Edward simply said.
Then, you stepped closer towards him, being careful with his scissor hands, and you leaned towards him and placed your lips against his for a couple of seconds before you pulled away. Edward looked down at you, surprised and confused. "What was that, (y/n)?" He questioned. "It was a kiss, Edward. I did it because I was expressing my feelings to you." You explained. "What does it mean exactly?" "It means 'I love you', Edward." You answered. Then, hesitating at first, Edward leaned towards you and pressed his lips against yours. You were surprised at first, but, then, you kissed him back. He pulled away from the kiss and whispered, "I love you too, (y/n)." You smiled and kissed him again, with Edward kissing you back. With one arm wrapped around his neck, you used your other hand that had your camera in it and took a picture of you and Edward sharing an wonderful kiss together.
