Chapter 18

~Three Weeks Later~

"Kacchan, do you have to get up?" Izuku mumbled sleepily, trying to latch onto the blond so he couldn't leave.

Ever since Izuku was 'attacked', Katsuki's been sleeping next to Izuku every night. Well, not exactly next to, more like they were attached the whole night. It was the only way Izuku could fall asleep anymore. The only way he could really feel safe.

"Yeah, I have that... meeting today, remember?" Katsuki reminded him.

'Shit.' Izuku thought.

He opened up his eyes and looked up at the blond. "Do you guys have to go? It sounds dangerous." Izuku tried to reason. It was probably a little dangerous before, but after Izuku messed up.... He was worried none of them would come back at all.

Katsuki rolled his eyes at the overly anxious boy, but he couldn't really blame him. Izuku had been on edge ever since he was attacked. He jumped at the slightest noise, he nearly never left Katsuki's side, and he wouldn't go anywhere except the house and work, even when he was with everyone.

Bringing a hand up to ruffle the shorter's hair, Katsuki reassured him, "It'll be fine, Deku. It's not even that dangerous, we just don't need our secretaries and it'll go smoother without you two there." He told him, trying to ease Izuku's nerves.

It didn't work.

If that was Katsuki's mindset going in, he'd be wildly unprepared for whatever Todoroki was planning.

And it was all Izuku's fault.

He should have held out! He should have tried harder to run! He should have fought back, or just lied again.... He never should have gone back to Todoroki.

"Just- Promise me you'll be careful, like really, really careful." Izuku said, grabbing the hand from his head and holding it tightly.

"Deku, I'm not-"

"Promise me, Kacchan." Izuku said, cutting off whatever it was that he was going to say.

Katsuki looked at the ceiling and sighed. "I promise I'll be extra careful, okay you big nerd?" He said, looking back over at Izuku with an amused glint to his eyes.

Izuku let out a small, relieved breath. "Thank you." He said, smiling back at Katsuki, but it didn't reach his eyes.

"I'm worried about you." Katsuki spoke up, much to Izuku's bewilderment.

"Why?" Izuku asked. He'd be back at the house, safe and sound.

Katsuki's face morphed to a more concerned look, again catching Izuku off guard. "This isn't going to be a quick meeting, Deku. We'll probably be gone all day, which means there'll only be raccoon eyes here that knows how to handle a gun." He explained, but instantly regretted it when Izuku's eyes widened in fear.

"But hey, hey, Deku look at me." Katsuki said, grabbing his face and turning it back so they were making eye contact. "I'm not worried about someone trying to get it or anything, I... I have faith that pinky can handle herself and keep you and ponytail out of the crossfire. I'm more worried about you freaking out, like you are right now." He said, trying to sound teasing at the end to hopefully lift the atmosphere a little.

Izuku wasn't calmed though. "I'm sorry, I just-"

Katsuki shook his head, cutting him off. "Stop apologizing. I understand why you're so worried, I just don't want you to have a panic attack when I'm not here." He told him, just wanting to calm him down before he had to leave.

"C'mon, we should go get some food, okay?" Katsuki said, changing the subject completely while standing up.

Izuku didn't move.

"Deku, I swear to god-"

"Piggy back ride?" Izuku asked hopefully, knowing that it was exactly what Katsuki was just going to tell him off for.

Katsuki groaned, but sat on the edge so Izuku could easily get on his back. "I hate you." He bit out as he started the trek to the kitchen with a piece of literal broccoli on his back.

Izuku rested his head on top of Katsuki's, probably flattening some of his hair, as he smiled. "Sure Kacchan, whatever you have to tell yourself to sleep at night."

"Damn nerd, I'm the only reason you sleep at night." Katsuki pointed out.

Izuku was quiet for a second as he pondered the blond's counter. "Well you got me there." He conceded.

"So does he just get daily piggy back rides? Does he have like a punch card or something? And how do I get one?" Mina asked teasingly when she caught sight of the two men entering the kitchen.

"Fuck off." Katsuki growled at her while he stood with his back to the counter so Izuku could easily sit and get off his back.

Izuku poured himself a cup of coffee, looking at Katsuki amusedly, seeing as the blond hadn't moved from between his legs. "You've just gotta make him feel really guilty, then you get away with whatever you want." He joked back to the pink girl, who leaned over to a pad of paper and took notes.

"Make him feel guilty, got it. Thanks Mido." She said with a playful smile that turned into a laugh when Katsuki groaned.

That's when Jirou walked in, looking at Katsuki and Tokoyami, who was sitting at the table, expectantly. "Well? You two coming or not? We're gonna be late if you don't hurry your asses up." She told them before walking right out of the kitchen again.

Katsuki let out a sigh as he turned himself around so he was facing Izuku. "I gotta go, you gonna be okay here?"

"Of course he will! I'm going to be babysitting!" Mina said happily, flipping whatever she was cooking on the stove. It smelt burnt.

"Mina, did you-" Yaoyorozu walked in and stopped when she saw that Mina's food was in fact burnt. "Just go sit down and leave the cooking to me, okay?" She said in a gentle manner, like she was talking to a child.

"Yeah, that's fair." The pink woman said with a nod, going to the table.

Katsuki rolled his eyes at the two and was just turning back to Izuku when he was pulled into a tight hug.

"You promise you'll be okay?" Izuku whispered to him so that the two women in the kitchen couldn't hear it.

"Of course I'll be okay, did you forget you're talking to right now, nerd?" Katsuki in a teasing tone, actually hugging Izuku back, to Mina's surprise. Yaoyorozu just smiled to herself while she got to working making more pancakes.

"Okay." Izuku said, pulling away, but not before placing a kiss on Katsuki's cheek. Of course he was bright red and looking to the side when the blond overcame his shock.

As soon as Katsuki snapped back to reality, he grabbed Izuku's chin, making sure that he didn't do anything too harsh or quick, and moved it back so they were facing each other. Then, without hesitation, he smashed his lips to Izuku's.

Jirou, who was highly annoyed that the leader of this mafia, was the one making them late, walked back into the kitchen. She found Mina squealing like a schoolgirl, her own girlfriend wiping a happy tear from her eye, and Katsuki and Izuku 'making out' on the counter.

"Keep it in your pants, we're late!" She shouted, making Izuku jump and push Katsuki off him, bringing a hand up to his mouth.

Katsuki was smirking as he placed one last kiss on Izuku's forehead, which was bright red just like the rest of his face, and then followed after Jirou.

"It's happening! Oh my god, it's finally happening!" Mina shouted as soon as the front door shut. She had jumped up from her chair and grabbed Yaoyorozu by the shoulders, slightly shaking her and causing her to laugh.

"This isn't a drill! BakuDeku is happening! Stay calm! Stay fucking calm!" Mina continued to shout.

Eventually Yaoyorozu had to scold her and tell her to calm herself down so that she could make them breakfast.

"Pancakes, right?" Mina asked with awe in her eyes.

The taller woman just nodded and playfully rolled her eyes at the expression.

"Then I'm sorry I ever disturbed you, carry on." Mina said with a mock salute as she moved down the counter to bother Izuku.

"You're gonna tease me all day, aren't you?" Izuku asked with a slight whine in his voice.

"Oh totally."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"They should be back by now, right?" Izuku asked Mina and Yaoyorozu nervously. It was late, nearly eight o'clock. All three of them were in the living room, Mina and Izuku playing a card game and Yaoyorozu reading.
"Not necessarily. These meetings tend to go for a really, really long time. Plus there could have been a delay or something. Don't worry too much, I'm sure they'll be back soon." Mina said with a shrug as she placed a card down and then grabbed another.
"How are you so calm, it's been twelve hours!" Izuku exclaimed, almost dropping his cards.
Mina looked up at him, still not seeming bothered. "I've been to a few that went for fifteen. Relax Mido, you're gonna go into cardiac arrest before Bakugou get's back to revive you." She teasingly and watched in satisfaction as Izuku became flaming red.
There was a loud crash against the door, startling all three of them.
"Shit, don't break it down dumbass! Use your god damn key!"
"I didn't try to, I'm kind of losing a lot of blood here."
"Fuck, he's gonna pass out!"
"Help him up then!"
"You're all idiots, look, a key."
There was a faint jingling and then Jirou opened the door, all the boys behind her, streaming in right after.
"What happened?!" Mina asked, rushing over to help.
Kirishima had a gash on his head that seemed to be bleeding pretty bad and he was being held up by Kaminari. Sero was holding his waist, like he had a broken rib or something. Tokoyami had a sleeve torn off his shirt and nasty scratches littering him. Katsuki wasn't even wearing a shirt, gauze haphazardly wrapped around his waist and already soaking through with blood. Jirou was covered in blood and dirt, like they all were, but she seemed to only have minor injuries.
"Todoroki happened." Kaminari groaned, trying to keep the weight of his boyfriend up.
Mina went to Kirishima's other side, helping Kaminari get to the couch.
"I'll go grab some first aid kits." Yaoyorozu said, squeezing Jirou's hand as she walked past her and up the stairs.
Izuku hadn't moved from his spot on the ground, completely frozen in horror and worry. He knew that this was all his fault, the guilt eating him alive as he looked over all the injuries he had caused.
Yaoyorozu was back in less than a minute, medical supplies nearly spilling from her arms. "What happened and who's the worst off?" She asked, setting everything down on the coffee table.
Kirishima winced while touching his head and moving his hand to look at the blood. "Bakugou was shot." He said with a groan.
Izuku's eyes zeroed in on the blond, quickly getting to his feet and scurrying over.
"I'm fine." Katsuki said with an eye roll.
"You were shot!" Izuku exclaimed, grabbing his hand and bringing him over to the couch. He made him sit down with a single look.
The blond's body tensed up while he dropped down, but he quickly hid it. "I'm fine, worry about the other idiots." He told them, trying to wave off Izuku.
"No, you. were. shot." Izuku said through gritted teeth as he grabbed a pair of scissors and cut the gauze away.
"Not the first time, won't be the last." Katsuki said casually, but winced while Izuku peeled back the blood soaked bandages.
"Oh this is the last time. I swear to god, if you ever get shot again-" Izuku tried to threaten, but his eyes had welled up with tears and Katsuki and tilted his head up.
"You're shaking." The blond said softly, causing Izuku to look down at his hands and sure enough, they were shaking.
Izuku clenched his eyes shut and took a few breaths, wiping his eyes on the arm of his shirt before opening them again. "I'm fine." He said quickly, discarding the dirty gauze and setting the scissors down.
"What happened to the bullet? Did it go all the way through or stop? Did you get it out?" Izuku asked him, trying to calm his own anxieties so he could help Katsuki.
"Sparky got it out in the car before I wrapped it." Katsuki said, letting his head fall back against the couch.
"Don't remind me. I dug around in your gut." Kaminari said, silently gagging. He was sitting on the ground next to the couch Kirishima was laying on.
Yaoyorozu was taking care of the redhead while Mina helped Tokoyami and Jirou clean themselves up a little. Sero would have to be looked over by the raven haired woman, seeing as she had experience as a nurse.
(PSA, I tried to look up if they had hydrogen peroxide in the 1920's and it didn't really give me a clear answer, so we're just gonna say they did)
"This- this is going to hurt. A lot." Izuku said softly, going to pour disinfectant on Katsuki's wound.
"Jesus fucking Chirst, that does not get any easier." Katsuki shouted out when the liquid hit his stomach.
"I'm sorry." Izuku said, his vision going blurry as his eyes filled with tears again.
Once everyone's injuries were taken care of, they all went to bed, too exhausted to try and talk out what had happened.
The next morning, none of them went to the office, deciding to take the day off and recuperate.
"So what happened last night?" Mina asked after everyone was awake and in the kitchen for breakfast.
When Kirishima noticed that Katsuki wasn't going to answer, he sighed and took it upon himself.
"We got to the office, we started the meeting and everything was going just fine. After we finished discussing our deal and everything, we all loaded up in cars and went to one of our warehouses to provide proof of payment, just like we always do." He explained, mainly to Mina, but Yaoyorozu and Izuku were both paying close attention.
"We could have only been there for a few minutes before the gunfire started. From there- it's all a little blurry." He admitted, tightening his hold on his mug.
"You know for sure it was Todoroki?" Mina asked, looking across to the others who were there, figuring that was all Kirishima had to say.
"Saw him myself." Tokoyami said, Sero and Kaminari both nodding.
"I fucking talked to him." Katsuki suddenly spoke up. He was sitting on the counter again, Izuku right next to him, their hands connected.
Mina's eyebrows shot up at his words. "What'd he say?" She asked.
"Asked how we liked the gift he left three weeks ago." He snarled out, his grip tightening on Izuku's hand. The green haired male rested his head on Katsuki's shoulder, trying to calm himself or the blond, he wasn't exactly sure.
It went quiet for a few moments before Mina cleared her throat. "So what're we gonna do now? This is the second time he's messed with us."
Katsuki snapped his head up and his harsh glare was now locked on her. "You think I don't fucking know that?" He hissed at her.
"Hey, calm down. She's just trying to be useful." Izuku whispered to him.
Katsuki rolled his eyes, but dropped it. "We need to figure out how Todoroki found out about the meeting." He said instead and Izuku had to do everything in his power to not tense up or start fidgeting.
"A mole?" Kaminari asked, perking up a little in his seat.
The thought of them having a traitor among them made everyone perk up a bit. Suddenly all their fatigue was gone.
"How else would he figure it out?" Katsuki asked, but the malice was gone and he just sounded tired.
The group went quiet again, all of them getting swept up in their own thoughts.
Until Sero coughed and grabbed their attention. "No one bite my head off, this is merely a theory, I'm looking at you Bakugou," He said and everyone threw small glances at the blond.
"But Midoriya-"
Katsuki gritted his teeth, already expecting this. "It wasn't Deku." He barked out, cutting Sero off.
The black haired man shot Izuku an apologetic look, not really believing it himself, but from an objective viewpoint it made the most sense. "I'm just saying, when he was attacked he could have let something slip or-"
Sero was cut off again, but this time by Kaminari. "But he didn't know about it until last week."
Izuku was focusing on his breathing, trying to make sure that he didn't hyperventilate. He was so damn close to getting caught. What would happen then? Would they kill him? Torture him? Keep him locked up until he died? Send him back to Todoroki?
All of those options sounded like hell to Izuku.
"You guys didn't tell him until last week. We talked about this month's scheduling a few days before he was attacked. I mentioned that we had yesterday off because you guys didn't need us, but I didn't say anything about a meeting or deal." Yaoyorozu spoke up, watching Izuku too gauge his reaction.
Suddenly all eyes were on Izuku, his own going wide. He frantically looked up at Katsuki, but even the blond's eyes held a bit of apprehension. "I-I didn't say anything! I don't even remember Momo saying anything about it! I swear, it wasn't me!" Izuku told them quickly, fidgeting with his jacket sleeve slightly.
No one seemed to notice. Except for a certain yellow haired individual whose eyes went wide for a fraction of a second before meeting Izuku's.
