Chapter 2 Part 17: Class Trial Part 1
Your POV:
After we were notified that the trial was going to start soon, we all made our way to the Shrine of Judgement. This was the second time we would have to go there. I wasn't excited about this fact.
Everyone was chatting along the way, but I couldn't say a word. It was bad enough that someone died again, but now we had to solve their case down to the first word.
Soon enough, the Monokuma statue crushed the stone vase or urn it was carrying, and it went into the waterfall, revealing the elevator. We all stepped into the elevator after that happened. I didn't want to do this, but I had to do this. It was awful to think about, but I had to move forward.
The elevator began its descent for a second time. This would be Rantaro's first time riding the elevator because the last case was about him. I let out a small sigh as the elevator went down.
"Hey, listen..." Rantaro trailed off, "I know you don't want to do this, but we all have to. Don't feel alone... we will help you through this."
"I know Rantaro," I replied with a small smile, "thank you for trying to cheer me up. It helps that you want to make me more confident."
"It's no problem," Rantaro replied, "just don't do anything crazy."
"I won't," I replied.
Soon enough, the elevator stopped at our destination. The trial room was slightly different than it was before. This surprised me a great amount. I looked around as Monokuma ran his head off about all of us coming back.
I needed to avenge Ryoma. He may not have known it, but he had a reason to live. All of us could've been his reason. I will find out who killed him...
Ryoma Hoshi, the Ultimate Tennis Pro was someone who desperately tried to find a purpose to live. He was murdered and then he was devoured by piranhas.
He deserved to live, and I will stand at nothing until I can find out who killed him..
The trial then started a moment later. There was no turning back now. Monokuma explained once again what the class trial was. It was almost the same thing he said the last time we were here, which made me very upset.
He was so enthusiastic about murder and killing. He forced us to be trapped here to kill other people and then do this. It was awful... it was torture, but it was something I had to bear.
(This was just recap)
"I think we all know who the most suspicious one is! It's—" Kokichi exclaimed as...
"Let's combine our power and work together, everyone!" Tenko interrupted...
"Um... The person who's most suspicious is—" Kokichi states as once again...
"Now lend me your energy, everyone! So we can catch the culprit!" Tenko interrupted him...
"Because the murder happened during the magic show, the culprit can only be—" Kokichi stated as ONCE MORE...
"HAIYAAAAAAAAHHH! I'm in form today!" Tenko interrupted him.
"Tenko! Why are you interrupting me? We can't have a good trial if you talk over me," Kokichi said angrily.
"Huh?" Tenko asked with a smug face, "I'm not interrupting you."
I was honestly slightly annoyed about this. The bickering annoyed me. First Kokichi, then Tenko. This repeate a lot. I let out a sigh in frustration.
"Whatever you have to say is probably worthless anyway, cuz all males wanna talk about is S-E—" Tenko explained as...
"...Himiko seems suspicious," Angie stated.
It's obvious everyone would think about that... the murder supposedly happened at Himiko's magic show. The piranhas from the magic show ate up Ryoma's body. It's obvious everyone would suspect Himiko.
I didn't think she could do it. I didn't think Himiko could handle such a complex plan.
Himiko was shocked about the accusation thrown at her. Tenko asked the devout why she accused Himiko. She simply told us that that's what her god told her. I found that complete bullshit because Himiko was on Angie's side. How could Angie just say that it was her? That's not what friends do to each other...
Then again, this is a class trial... we will betray each other.
Angie soon went dark to tell us about the wrath of Atua. Kaede decided to proclaim the idea to figure out the magic trick. It could be a way to clear Himiko of suspicion. I agreed with her.
Despite what Kaede said, everyone continued to argue and point the finger at Himiko. Tenko was trying to protect Himiko, while mostly everyone else was trying to say it was her. I had to somehow figure out her magic trick, so I can help prove her innocence. I didn't know if Rantaro agreed though.
Everyone was only suspecting Himiko because this all happened at her magic show. I knew that this played some sort of part in the process, but not in the way everyone would expect. Maybe the magic show was used to frame the lazy girl.
A few moments later, a very silly argument came up. That argument was whether or not the show was actually magic. I honestly felt like it was magic, but everyone thought it was a trick. The only reason I thought it was possible was because of my ability. That was the reason. Hopefully I could clear her name.
Angie told Himiko to confess to Atua. This started up the other argument. That argument was Tenko trying to protect Himiko and mostly everyone else trying to see her as the culprit.
"It's true though. Himiko used The Underwater Escape trick to kill Ryoma," Kokichi explained, "but I still don't have a clue how Himiko did the trick..."
"Th-There's no trick... That... really was magic," Himiko explained.
"Y'know, maybe it really *was* magi—" Gonta stated as...
"Oh, stop it. If you don't reveal your trick now, then we'll vote you as the culprit," Maki explained very clearly.
"Stop picking on Himiko! A cute tiny flower like her couldn't kill anyone!" Tenko exclaimed.
"Guys stop it! It's too soon to decide that it was Himiko!" Kaede exclaimed.
"I get that you guys want to defend her, but this might be a little much..." Tsumugi explained.
"How is any of that too much?" I asked, finally saying something, "you can't just assume something based off of the outside of the story. We have to figure this out!"
"Oh great! Now the Otaku is backing up the bullshit magic user!" Miu exclaimed angrily.
"I'm not backing her up," I replied, "I'm just saying that we shouldn't make irrational decisions based on what we saw. We need to figure this out, 100% of the way through."
I couldn't let them vote for Himiko. I investigated. I should know what's going on and why Himiko couldn't have done a crime like this. I had to be the one to figure it out.
"Atua has blessed me with an epiphany," Angie explained, "the culprit used the Underwater Escape trick...to pull off a sneaky switcheroo with Ryoma."
"After that, the timer ran out..." Kokichi explained, "the tank above Ryoma opened and piranhas came pouring out."
I wasn't sure about Ryoma being in the tank at that time, but the piranhas pouring into the tank was a correct statement for the case. I had I find the contradiction in one of these statements somehow.
"Wahhh!!!! And he was eaten alive!" Kokichi cried.
"No that's wrong!" I shouted.
Shuichi and Kaede looked like they were about to say the same thing about it. I knew what was going on. I knew exactly why Ryoma couldn't have been alive during the magic show.
"Ryoma's death was not something the piranhas caused," I explained, "it shows it right here in the Monokuma File. It tells us that Ryoma's cause of death was drowning."
"I was going to say the same thing," Shuichi admitted nervously.
"So it wasn't the piranhas, then. He was drowned," Kaito explained.
"It seems like it," Rantaro replied with an ominous tone, "it is kind of obvious if you look at the state Ryoma was in before the piranhas got to him."
"Oooohhh, I see. I haven't checked the Monokuma File yet, so that's news to me," Kokichi explained happily.
"Y-You lying, little brat! Telling lies is what turns you into a degenerate male!" Tenko exclaimed.
"Hehe, so what?" Angie asked, Ryoma drowned, Himiko changed places with him, and then the piranhas ate him, right?"
"I don't think that's the case Angie. We should bring up what Rantaro said earlier," I explained.
"I agree," Keebo replied, "Himiko only had 60 seconds to escape from the tank... Even if they changed places at the start of the show, that's insufficient time to drown someone."
"If that's the case, then when did he drown?" Kirumi asked.
I obviously new the answer to this question. He couldn't be drowned after, or during. That left before. Ryoma drowned before the magic show even started.
"Ryoma was already drowned before the show started," Shuichi explained.
"Kehehe... Agreed," Kiyo replied, "before being eaten by the piranhas, he made no attempt to escape the water. To be precise, he made no movements whatsoever. Yes... By that point, he had already joined the ranks of the dead."
"Could that mean his body was hidden until the culprit made it appear in the tank?" Keebo asked.
"Hidden...where?" Gonta asked.
"The culprit would have had to hide the body near the tank, and then show it during the act," Kirumi explained.
"Easier said than done!" Miu exclaimed in response.
It may be easier said than done, but Kirumi was right. The body could've been hidden somewhere before the show started.
We needed to find a place on stage the body could've been stored in. The only person who'd know according to Kokichi is Himiko since she performed the trick.
Everyone was still going after Himiko since she was the one who did the trick. Despite that, Himiko start true to her act. She wouldn't tell us how she did it. She only told us that it was magic.
Everyone was trying to figure out how to figure out Himiko's trick. Everyone decided that we would work together to find out Himiko's trick.
This lead to Himiko saying magic three times ominously as if she were casting a curse.
We needed to find out how Himiko performed the trick. This would be how we can see if Himiko is the culprit or not. I have to do this. This case will go nowhere if I don't figure it out.
"How did Himiko escape the tank...?" Keebo asked.
"Maybe she just climbed out and no one noticed," Angie said.
"Nah, she defiantly would've been caught," Kokichi replied.
"Perhaps some mechanism was set up on the stage," Kirumi explained.
That could be a possibility, but I need to keep listening.
"The curtain covering the tank was certainly suspicious," Kiyo told us.
"What about that square pane of glass we found in the tank?" Kaito asked.
"Maybe the tank had a secret hatch?" Maki told us.
Kirumi stated something about a mechanism, but it would be noticeable if that was set on stage. Maki was defiantly right. There was some sort of escape hatch in the tank. I saw a tank like Himiko's in her lab. That had an escape hatch.
"I agree with that!" Shuichi, Kaede, and I stated.
My eyes slightly widened once again. This was happening the last trial too. We all were saying stuff at the same time. This was slightly shocking. I had no idea how I was able to do this. I'm not a detective like Shuichi.
"Maki is correct. There was an escape hatch on that tank," Shuichi explained.
"I see, so it did have one," Maki replied.
"That tank does have an escape hatch. We found one similar to the one used during the magic show in Himiko's Lab." I explained.
"That's right," Shuichi explained, "there was a panel on the side that could open. That was her escape."
"Mind over strength!" Tenko shouted.
I sighed lightly. Tenko contradicted us. She believed what Himiko did was magic. I had no idea if it was the truth. I looked over at Himiko slightly and I noticed her eyes glow a bit. What could that possibly mean?
"No! The logic you bguys created is all wrong!" Tenko shouted.
"Huh?" I asked, "what do you mean Tenko?"
"Hmph! And you all don't even know why you're all wrong either. I still favor the girls over that degenerate!" Tenko exclaimed, "nnnngraaaahhh!!! I'll smash in Shuichi's face with my fists of hot burning steel!!!"
This was the start of it all. It was up to the three of us to find whatever contradiction would be in Tenko's statement.
"We have to tag-team this guy's!" I exclaimed.
"Right!" Kaede and Shuichi replied.
It was nice to know that I had a couple of people to support me. They knew a lot like I did.
"The side of the tank being open...doesn't have anything to do with Himiko's escape! She didn't use an escape hatch!" Tenko exclaimed, "I know she didn't do that! And now, I'm gonna punch you Shuichi!"
"...W-Wait a second, b-before you punch me... What makes you so sure she didn't?" Shuichi asked.
"Because! If she escaped from a hatch in the tank...the water would've gushed out with her! There would have been water everywhere!" Tenko exclaimed.
That was it. This was the contradiction I was looking for. The wet staircase was the proof. I had to call this out now, or else her claim would stick.
"No that's wrong!" Kaede and I shouted.
"There was a reason the area wasn't flooded with water," Kaede explained.
"The staircase connecting the tank had to have something to do with this," I explained, finishing off Kaede's statement.
"Try to remember how the staircase was positioned," Shuichi explained, "it was aligned perfectly with the tank's escape hatch."
This meant the water tank was connected from inside the staircase. This meant that the staircase had a hatch as well. Everyone was now thinking that the body was inside the staircase.
Himiko's trick was explained by Shuichi. She used the escape hatch to exit into the stairs and then come out. That was clear. The trace of water where the stairs were was proof of that.
Himiko was getting very nervous. Her pedestal went into the center. Kokichi told us with her reaction, we hit a bullseye.
Tenko mentioned that Himiko's clothes should've been wet after the escape. Everyone took notice of this. Himiko told us it was because of her magic.
The reason to this was obvious. It was because Himiko changed her uniform after getting out of the tank. Angie told everyone that she saw Himiko walk into the gym with a spare uniform and a towel.
This was all of proof we needed. This was the proof that made Himiko admit that the tank and stairs had the hatches. She then proceeded to say that she didn't use them because of her magic.
This brought us back to an avenue of discussion we had earlier. This was the fact that Ryoma's body could've been hidden in the space in the staircase. The idea they came up with was the possibility that Himiko made the switch as she was leaving the tank.
There was no proof that that happened though. We needed the input of someone who was able to see behind the curtain during the magic show. I knew who that was. I had a chance to clear Himiko of suspicion. That's what I intended to do.
Angie kept on trying to blame Himiko, but then Tenko made an amazing speech that moved all of us. She wanted to believe in Himiko. I wanted to believe in Himiko. There was no was I was going to give up on her. Himiko didn't deserve that.
I was going to help Tenko. I was going to help her clear Himiko of suspicious from everyone else. I had to do this for her.
"The only only one who could've switched Ryoma's body...is Himiko herself," Angie explained happily.
"When Himiko was escaping the tank...she dragged out the body hidden in the stairs...and simply switched places with it," Kiyo explained.
"Are you telling me you saw that happen?" Tenko asked.
"No one could have seen that," Kirumi explained, "it would've occurred during the show...when the tank was covered with a curtain."
"So basically, no one saw anything," Kokichi said happily.
This was the contradiction I was looking for. Someone did see what was inside that tank. It was Gonta. He went backstage to see if Himiko was alright. I smiled to myself at this.
"No that's wrong!" I exclaimed.
"Nee-hee-hee, my cute little (y/n) has contradicted me. Explain why I'm wrong," Kokichi told me.
"I will. There was someone who saw what was happening in the tank. Gonta climbed backstage to try to save Himiko. He saw what was back there," I explained.
Gonta then explained that he saw no one in the tank when he looked down into it. This proved my point. Himiko couldn't have done this crime. I think we cleared her of suspicion. This made me very happy.
The body wasn't hidden in the stairs which was happy news to me. This did make me ask. Where was the body hidden?
We needed to pin that fact down before we can move on. I had no idea. I had to figure it out.
"Where were ya hiding Ryoma's body?" Miu asked.
"It wasn't really in the stairs, was it?" Tsumugi asked.
"We concluded that before, right?" Rantaro asked.
"After all, there was only enough space for Himiko," Keebo explained.
"Then where could the body have been hidden?" Kaede asked, "we need to figure it out.."
"Well, how about behind the curtain!?" Tenko asked.
"That seems unlikely," Rantaro replied.
"If there was a way to enter the tank from there...then it would be plausible," Kirumi explained.
"Or maybe the body was in the tank all along...but we just couldn't see it," Angie explained.
That actually sounded plausible. The body could've been hidden somewhere we couldn't see it. That had to be the case here. The only question was where...?
"Impossible. You'd need top-notch visual effects to pull that off," Maki explained.
"And what of the tank containing the piranhas?" Kiyo asked.
"No way. If you put a body in there...the piranhas woulda eaten him way before we saw it!" Kaito explained.
"But if the body and piranhas were separated..." Kiyo stared.
My eyes widened slightly. That was correct. Kiyo was right! The piranhas and the body was separated!
"We agree with that!" Kaede, Shuichi, and I said.
With that, Kaede, Shuichi, and I explained what was going on. The glass pane in the tank was used to separate the body and the piranhas.
This actually meant many different things. The body was in the tank the whole time. Gonta then explained to us that he knew what was going on. He explained that he saw a big thing enter the water with the piranhas. This proved it. Kirumi even stated that she saw something bigger drop into the water as well.
Another thing that was discussed was the fact on how the body was obscured. The piranhas added a benefit. They obscured the body. No wonder I thought that there were a lot of piranhas in that tank. They were crammed together, so that made it so we couldn't see past them. Angie even mentioned that she thought there were more piranhas than there were before the show.
Since this was the case, this made the case even harder than it was now. Himiko couldn't have switched places with the body, so there are more suspects. This meant that anyone in the room could've done it.
Tenko told Angie to apologize to Himiko. She told us that Atua was napping angrily because we all doubted him. Himiko told us to forgive Angie and be upset with the killing game instead.
I actually agreed with her. We shouldn't fight. We should be fighting against this killing game. I knew that one for sure.
Miu told us we were back to square one because any one of us could be the culprit. I didn't see it as that though. We found out how the body was hidden. All we had to do was find out the time of death. Then we would have our culprit.
We were focused on finding alibis now. We needed to narrow down the time of death by using these alibis. Who was the last person to see Ryoma? That's what we needed to know now.
Another thing that came up was the set up. The only time the culprit could've set this up was yesterday before nighttime. That's what we concluded because no one is allowed in the gym at night.
"W-Wait... How do you know it was before nighttime yesterday?" Miu asked.
"Stop asking me dumbass questions! It could've been solved with the process of elimination!" Kokichi exclaimed, "Geez...fine! I'll explain it to the itty-bitty, peabrained bitchlet!"
"B-Bitchlet!?" Miu exclaimed with a lewd face.
"First, the gym was closed during nighttime, so no one could've entered," Kokichi explained.
The Monokubs backed up what Kokichi was saying. If we were to go in the gym, an alarm would go off. If we even broke the rules, an Exisal would get rid of us. I don't think anyone wanted to die by their hand.
"After nighttime, morning came. But hiding the body before the show was..." Kokichi explained.
"Nyahahaha! Impossible!" Angie exclaimed in response to Kokichi, "Himiko and I were waiting in front of the gym before the morning announcement."
"Which leaves only one possibility—it was done before nighttime yesterday," Kokichi explained, "anyone who doesn't get this is just as stupid as the whore bitchlet over there!"
Miu was looking very aroused by this which sickened me. I wondered why those two had to insult each other during these trials.
So according to Kirumi, Ryoma's body was placed into the tank before nighttime. I did wonder who could have enough time to pull off something like that.
We needed to narrow down the time of death a little more. This was at least the time of death for right now. Things could very well change.
Shuichi, Kaede, and I decided that noting who last saw Ryoma would narrow down the time a little more. Gonta was supposedly the last to see Ryoma. It was when he was "inviting" everyone to the Insect Meet and Greet. The supposed time was 8 p.m.
The thing we needed to do was find someone with no alibi for 8 p.m. I knew I was off the hook for this. I was abducted by Gonta earlier than everyone else since I walked on them talking. The others that were at the meet and greet were Angie, Himiko, Kaede, Keebo, Korekiyo, Shuichi, Tsumugi, Tenko, and Rantaro. Kokichi was obviously there too because he was the one who planned this.
This left Kirumi, Maki, Kaito, and Miu. Those people would be the most suspicious.
Soon, a new shocking discovery took place. Kirumi was in the gym around 8 to 10 p.m. She was only there for around five minutes though. That really struck me odd.
Miu found it really suspicious that Kirumi was even alone in the gym. We should try to hear what everyone else has to say. We can solve it more that way.
Keebo then countered Miu by telling her that she didn't have an alibi for that time. Miu started to stutter and tell us that she didn't even know where the gym was. I found that to be a little unbelievable.
Everyone was trying to see who was the most suspicious at this point. It did come down to four people. Then... Kokichi started talking about Kaito.
"What about Kaito?" Kokichi asked, "only murderers grow out creepy facial hair like mustaches and goatees."
"Wh-What!? My goatee's not creepy! It gives me a glamorous celebrity vibe!" Kaito exclaimed in response.
Suddenly a giggle was heard in the room. I started to laugh at this, I had no idea why. It was just how defensive Kaito got.
"(y/n), you agree with Kokichi?" Kaito asked.
"What, no!" I replied, "I just thought it was funny because of how defensive you got. I'm sorry for laughing. Let's just continue."
The culprit must've been one of the four people who didn't have an alibi, but I knew one out of the four actually did as much as I hated to say how.
"...I apologize but given the circumstances, we have no choice but to suspect you," Keebo said nervously.
"Suspect who!? Who's the culprit!?" Tenko asked.
"We need to calm down guys!" Kaede exclaimed.
"Wait up! Why are you guys suspicious of me!? I've been helping the whole time!" Kaito exclaimed.
"Oh wait, I remember now... I...do have an alibi!" Miu exclaimed.
"You will see whether or not I am suspicious as the trial progresses," Kirumi said calmly.
"I'm not the culprit!" Miu exclaimed.
"I am not the culprit!" Kirumi exclaimed.
"No way I'm the culprit!" Kaito announced.
They all said those phrases at the same time. This was going to be the same as the last time. I need to focus on separating the voices, so I can find the contradiction in their crazy claims.
"I have an alibi!" Miu exclaimed while the Kaito and Kirumi were talking.
"I was running away from Gonta!" Kaito exclaimed as Kirumi and Miu were talking.
"I was alone in the gym for about..." Kirumi said while Kaito and Miu were talking.
This was very confusing. They were interrupting their own statements. This was going to be confusing to catch.
"Five minutes," Kirumi stated as Keebo and Kaito were talking.
"I tried hiding in the classroom..." Kaito explained while Keebo and Kirumi were talking.
"What is your alibi?" Keebo asked as Kaito and Kirumi spoke.
They still were interrupting each other. I was starting to get frustrated. Where was the contradiction?
"When I was running from Gonta," Miu explained while Kirumi and Kaito were talking.
"Himiko and the others were with me..." Kirumi explained while Kaito and Miu were talking.
"I even tried hiding in the girl's bathroom!" Kaito exclaimed nervously while Kirumi and Miu were talking.
Why was Kaito trying to hide in the girl's bathroom... that was wrong.
"P-Pervert! Filthy male pervert!" Tenko exclaimed as Miu and Kirumi were talking.
"Things got a little...heated if ya catch my drift," Miu explained as Kirumi and Tenko spoke.
"Until they left with Gonta..." Kirumi stated as Miu and Tenko spoke.
This was still a jumbled mess of words. I had to find something. I needed to find something.
"What's Maki's Alibi?" Angie asked as Kirumi and Kaito spoke.
"That was five minutes before 9:00 p.m." Kirumi said as Kaito and Angie spoke.
"Then, right before nighttime, I got tired and fell asleep," Kaito explained as Kirumi and Angie spoke.
Where was the contradiction. I needed the thing that was wrong. I basically lost my thought until the one screaming mess after Maki mentioned she didn't run away.
"I was in my research lab the whole time," Maki explained as Keebo and Kaito spoke.
"What!? No! In my own room! Geez!" Kaito exclaimed as Keebo and Maki spoke.
"Are you sure you did not stay at the gym?" Keebo asked as Maki and Kaito spoke.
I realized this was the contradiction I was looking for. There was one person who saw Kirumi outside of the gym at about 9 p.m. That person was Kokichi. He had a run in with her when he was breaking into all of our dorm rooms to steal our motive videos. I still didn't like the fact that he did that, but it confirmed what Kirumi said as the truth.
"No, that's wrong!" I exclaimed.
I looked at the others who were silent, waiting for me to speak. I let out a sigh as I decided to explain it.
"Kirumi is telling the truth. The story Kokichi told me proves this," I explained.
Kokichi told me that Kirumi spotted him at the entrance hall. That was around 9 p.m. She was asking him if he was up to no good. This solidified Kirumi's alibi. She spent an hour with him.
Gonta went into the gym before nine to get Angie and Himiko. Kirumi was in the gym five minutes to nine.
Keebo asked Kokichi why he forgot to tell everyone this detail. Kokichi then made a Robophobic remark about Keebo.
Kirumi explained that if she were the culprit, that would mean that she killed Ryoma in less than five minutes and hide his body in the tank.
That seemed very impossible to do. That complicated of a plan would defiantly take longer than five minutes. But, five minutes could've been enough time to at least plan what was going to happen.
Another thing was that Gonta was trying to catch Angie. Kirumi wouldn't have used that to get Ryoma alone in the gym. We were going to look for more possibilities.
The other possibilities mentioned the other ones without an alibi. The only thing was one of them could've been ruled out. I already knew who it was.
Shuichi then mentioned that Miu could be taken off of the list. It was obvious on why. She was the figure Gonta saw.
She was obviously happy that it was her, but Kaito was shocked and upset about it.
Miu was apparently in her underwear trying to get Gonta away from her that way. The way she explained it made me want to cringe a lot. She mentioned that the blood rushed to both of Gonta's heads.
I felt so bad for Gonta. He didn't need to see something like that. That ruined his innocence.
Without a doubt, Miu had an alibi, so we decided to move on to the other two.
I decided to keep the alibis from yesterday, so if I needed to recall the events later, I could.
Shuichi decided to have us retrace the events that happened. I agreed with him but...
"Nope, we should do something more fun...and I have the perfect idea," Kokichi explained.
"What is your perfect idea Kokichi...?" I asked in response.
"I'm so glad you asked my beloved (y/n)!" Kokichi exclaimed in response.
I honestly wondered why he kept calling me his "darling. It really did confuse me.
"We narrowed it down to two people, and one of those two is the culprit, right?" Kokichi asked, "Since we don't have to randomly accuse each other, the truth just got more easier. So, let's find the truth with a more effective method.
Kokichi was obviously trying to say his mind. I honestly didn't even know if what he had in mind would help us find the culprit.
"And what is this effective method?" Kirumi asked.
Kokichi then explained that the one who's innocent should know who the guilty one is. In this case, that would be correct, but we don't even have all of the pieces.
Kokichi also stated that only one person in the room knew who the culprit was. Kokichi was basically running the trial at this point, and I didn't like it.
"To that someone who knows... Do your best to convince us! Work harder!" Kokichi exclaimed.
I wasn't liking the tone he was giving. It gave me the creeps. Angie did question what Kokichi was saying. That's when his idea was finally shown.
"Have the two argue for their innocence! That's how we'll decide our culprit!" Kokichi exclaimed.
"E-Even if we did that, wouldn't they just pass the blame back and fourth?" Tsumugi asked in response.
"Aaaaand?" Kokichi asked in response.
"Huh?" Tsumugi asked.
What on earth was he trying to get us to do. I was slightly confused on how his tone changed. It was like he was bipolar. His tone went from happy to serious in a flash.
"You guys all talk about cooperation and team work, but you're all afraid. You're too scared to point your finger at others, so you hide behind the word, *trust*. How do you expect to find the culprit when you're all worried about each other's feelings?" Kokichi explained in a serious tone, "If you're planning to expose a liar, then you have to corner them psychologically..."
I was starting to get slightly scared of Kokichi. His tone was getting even more insane by the second.
"Only then will they reveal their true self as a liar—hiding beneath a layer of deceit!" Kokichi exclaimed in a crazy voice.
I was silent at this. Kokichi was clearly insane...
"If we want to find the liar, I suggest the two suspects argue against each other," Kokichi stated, "No more pointless deductions! All we need is for them to fight for their lives! So let's host an argument that's totally-not-boring-but-super-fun!"
Kokichi's voice once again was cheerful, but there was something about it. It was an insane type of cheerful. I need to be more careful around him.
"We'll catch the culprit in their lies when we find a contradiction! We'll scare the culprit until they screw up! That's how a true class trial works. Right, Monokuma?" Kokichi asked.
I was still slightly chilled. Monokuma actually agreed with Kokichi as well. Kaito actually wondered what side Kokichi was on. I honestly wondered it too because he always seems to switch from agreeing with us to Monokuma.
Kokichi then told us that he was on our side. He didn't wanna die apparently. I don't think any of us wanted to die.
We didn't have a topic to start on with this. Kokichi expected us to try to find the liar, even though we didn't have any leads.
"If you guys need some help getting started, I can give out the first topic," Kokichi explained.
Kokichi's eyes suddenly started to glow an ominous purple. He held a brightly colored device, using two fingers from each hand to keep it from falling. He had a chilling smile on his face. It was a Kubs Pad.
"Our first topic is...this! Ta-daaaa!" Kokichi exclaimed as he showed off the device.
"The Kubs Pad?" I asked.
"Not just any Kubs Pad! But the one given to our lates victim, Ryoma!" Kokichi exclaimed in response, "when we started to investigate, I went straight to his room to borrow it."
I remembered that I went into Ryoma's room during the investigation. We finally knew who took his motive. It was Kokichi all along.
The reason that Kokichi borrowed it was apparently because one of the two potential culprits had it.
The only way we'd be able to figure this out would be if the person who had either of Kaito or Maki's motives spoke up.
And that did happen.... Shuichi told us that he had Kaito's motive video. That meant Maki must've had Ryoma's motive. That left her in the spotlight.
I didn't think Maki was the culprit though. Just because she had Ryoma's video doesn't mean that she killed him. That's what she said as well.
Kokichi was happy that she finally spoke, because that's how a debate should be in his opinion. The thing that perplexed me was the fact that he only brought up the video to make Maki talk.
Kokichi tried to get Maki and Kaito to debate, but Kaito finally had an outburst. He told us that he knew that he wasn't the culprit. He also told us that Maki wasn't the culprit either.
Kokichi seemed very confused by this. I was slightly confused by one thing that Kaito said.
He based all or this on a hunch. He said it was a hunch he had.
"A...A hunch!?" Kokichi asked, "are you being serious? You do know all our lives are on the line, right? And you're betting our lives on just a hunch!?"
"I do see where Kokichi is coming from here," Rantaro explained, looking slightly frustrated, "betting our lives on a hunch is not a good idea."
"Hmph... You don't get it. This isn't just any hunch..." Kaito explained in response, "this is an official hunch from *the* Kaito Momota, Luminary of the Stars!"
A lot of us were confused at this point. Keebo even thought of this as harder to comprehend than the antics of Kokichi himself. I somewhat agreed.
"You're totally serious! You can't be *that* stupid, right?" Kokichi asked.
"No, he might actually be that stupid," Tenko replied.
People then started to call him an idiot. I thought it was kind of rude to do that to someone.
Kaito explained that he believed in Maki. Somehow, this made me want to believe in her as well. He made a nice speech. It reminded me on how I wanted to believe in Kaede... how Tenko wanted to believe in Himiko. It made sense.
It was absurd to believe based on a myth like that. But it saved me before. Kaito was truly an amazing person.
"I'll believe in Maki too!" I exclaimed.
"What?" Maki asked.
"I'll believe in her," Kaede said.
"Since (y/n) believes, I will too," Rantaro said.
"That's our Kaito, right? Making us think with our hearts..." Shuichi explained.
"I agree..." I replied, "Kaito really is something."
Kokichi decided to patronize Shuichi and I for actually believing in Kaito.
Shuichi then explained the innocent until proven guilty. That was the truth.
Kokichi was explaining that we needed proof. Then something shocking happened.
"So I just have to turn it around, right?" Maki asked.
Kokichi was obviously confused about this.
"It's not like I owe that idiot a or anything just because he defended me... But that hopeless idiot may have encouraged me a little bit," Maki explained.
Kirumi wondered what Maki meant. Maki explained that she couldn't stay silent forever. I knew then that Maki was going to say something that will change the game.
"I met up with Ryoma during nighttime yesterday," Maki explained.
This caused a lot of panic to start. I was panicking a little, but I'm going to believe Maki.
The class trial was now at an intermission.
Hey guys, it's me. This took so much work to write. I did like 2000 words a day to complete this. I hope you all enjoy the chapter!- CRUSIFIXdroid
