Wildlife Awareness Day
Hi. On Wattpad, I go by the username Madilyn. March third is Wildlife Awareness Day. Are you an animal person, even when it comes to untamed, exotic ones?
Think of the forests of the world many years ago. Birds of all kinds singing their sunrise song; Hares weaving through the tangled tree trunks; Deer peacefully resting in a sun spot peeking through the the vibrant, green leaves. Imagine the rainforests and savannah abundant with tigers and lions; Hundreds of elephants pleasantly showering themselves with water.
To this day, we still have all the same mammals I mentioned. Now, what about the specific species of those animals? Hundreds, even thousands of individual bird species are endangered or extinct. The overall population of tigers and lions gains quantity mainly through the cats on sanctuaries and zoos: felines that are in captivity. Many forests have been cleared out so that industries can be built. Elephants have become nearly endangered thanks to hunters illegally killing them and selling their ivory. Now, is this how wildlife was, hundreds of years ago? No, it's not.
The population of humanity grows therefore needing new houses which causes animals to lose THEIR homes. But, I'm sure you knew that. Of course, we as individuals can't help our fellow inhuman companions by shrinking the growth of economy, because that is something that we as humans can't stop now. What all of us can do is try to help by starting out with little things. Maybe there's a shelter or sanctuary close where you live? You could spend time with those who are caged. All you have to do is let them know you're there; not everyone is ready to hurry up and adopt an animal. And if we're talking about wildlife that cannot be completely tamed, you can always search for an exotic animal charity to donate money to.
Even if you can't do either of these things, you can still show your appreciation. Keep the environment of the mammals around you clean. Yes, this all reverts back to going green.
Animals are a part of nature, and are affected by how their habitat is treated. Would YOU like to live in a neighborhood with trash lining the streets you drive on? Picking up garbage means a lot more than you might know.
Just think: if you threw away an opened canned drink, that could be one less small bird that gets their head stuck. If you're on the beach and grab a floating bag in the ocean, that's one less bag a turtle would've mistaken for a jellyfish. See where this is going? You can prevent wildlife from accidentally hurting themselves: therefore helping wildlife one creature at a time.
