Why I Don't Like College

This is all my personal opinion. If you agree, okay, great. If you disagree, whatever, good for you, I guess.

1. The expenses. College is hecking expensive. Not only do you have to take out loans for tuition and your classes, and pay those loans back, but you have to buy textbooks, gas to drive to your school, supplies, and other stuff. Plus, FASFAs, student loans, and making payments are not very straight-forward. FASFAs are all like, "If you or your parent spends all the money you or they make in a year for your school, you don't need any money from us. We don't care if you or your parent has bills to pay, loans to pay off, or unexpected expenses." On the Federal Student Aid website, I can't just see what company served my loan, which means I can't repay anything until I figure that out. You also have to take classes that have nothing to do with your major, which is money unnecessarily spent. I get that they have those classes because they're  necessary for other majors and they have to fill those classes in order to keep them, but it's still frustrating.

2. Textbooks can be essentially useless. Out of the four textbooks I either bought or rented, I used only one of them, because it was an online class that had open-book tests. In math I didn't need it, my English teacher never even mentioned the textbook a single time, and my anatomy and physiology teacher placed major emphasis on his stupid video lectures when it came to testing. Schools also usually require the latest edition of textbooks, so it's difficult to find more affordable second-hand copies or sell copies that you used.

3. It can be difficult, especially if you have undisclosed problems or disabilities. I'm autistic and I'm used to being a semi-hermit. I know one day I might be working in an office with other people, but being in classes with other people was kind of hard and I didn't have a way to really cope with that in a healthy way. I get nervous that I'll mess up. In English we often had to get into groups. In anatomy and physiology there was this unspoken expectation to work in groups even outside of Lab, which is a no-go for me. Online classes were not available for half of my subjects.
Also, auditory information can be pretty hard for me to deal with. It was easier with classes in-person because there was almost always some sort of visual aid. My A&P, however, was a hybrid class with online video lectures. Note-taking was useless because I had no idea what information would be needed for the tests, and there were no subtitles on the videos. They were YouTube based so I could turn the captions on, but they're messy and they couldn't spell the more complicated and wordy terms correctly. Also, YouTube captions and my A&P professor could not grammar.

SCHOOL NEEDS TO BE ACCESSIBLE. There's no excuse to let students struggle when simple accommodations that can be useful to everyone, regardless of their abilities, can be made. Many students might not have diagnoses for autism, ADHD, social anxiety, learning disabilities, etc. when they struggle with those. Obviously there are accommodations that are more complex and need to be tailored to the individual who needs them, but things such as the availability of online classes and legible subtitles should be compulsory.
