Chapter 35 - An Embarrassing Two Days: Day 2 (Part 2)
I decided to try my hand at drawing after 5 years...It was a nostalgic experience that I'm hoping I can keep up on and improve upon in the future.
(Unedited)
I came into consciousness with someone poking the bottom of my pads with something sharp.
"Wolfy stop that. We can let her rest for a little while longer..." Freija's familiar mischievous tone had disappeared entirely and was similar to that of Pops after seeing me the morning after Hell week...the second morning after. I was usually too tired to get out of bed the next day after due to how much of my body was sore and hurt, and thankfully he was always nice enough to let me as he knew how hard it was on me...hopefully.
I groaned and pulled in my feet, trying to bury myself in the comfort of the grass and the nice, warm feeling of the suns' light...I shot awake, causing Wreign to jump back just as surprised, and checked the time:
8:30am
It was 8am!? I'd never slept past eight in the morning!
Was last night so taxing on me mentally that I just shut down for the night? Was I drugged somehow by those two Felids? No, she left before I'd fallen asleep again...so that only meant that I was just that comfy sleeping out in a field of wild grass. Then again, it had been a while since I've done this--maybe instead of sleeping in a box inside every day I should try sleeping outside again once in a while...
"See she's up and awake now--Ow!" There was a muted boom in the space behind me. I turned around--realizing that I had even started turning and looking around earlier--and saw Wreign indented as a small crater in the ground.
"You idiot!" Freija yowled at him, "She was so adorable. Why did you have to go and ruin that?!" Was Freija pouting??
"Foxy, you don't have to be so rough with me still...last night was--" A larger crater was made and Freija looked everywhere but at my eyes with a slightly redder tinge under the fur of her face.
"Don't you go about spreading rumors of something that didn't happen." She growled. He groaned and tore himself out of the larger indentation in the ground, looking over at her with a sly smirk.
You know you lik--" He was encased in a barrier, one of Foxy's that cut off all sound and said box was then flung East; Back, deep into the forest. I looked at her confused, slightly wanting to know what had happened and slightly assuming.
She shook her head and pointed a finger at me, the claw extended and glowing sharp, "Now don't you go and making assumptions of what happened between the two of us in the forest. It was just a series of unfortunate circumstances and that's that." I decided to let the subject drop for now and took that as the time to properly stretch for the morning; though, the way she watched me while doing so made me partially regret the action, but I felt good afterwards so it 'wasn't that unnerving...
"I'll never get tired of watching you stretch like that," She commented, I went back West towards the path out, but she didn't seem interested in another topic. "It's so fascinating to see how flexible you are as a Felid-Kin...makes me pretty jealous actually."
"You're pretty flexible for a Vulpine-Kin you know; not many can go running around laughing whilst dodging blades and arrows as you do." Reminding her of the repetitive sparring matches she'd wanted every time I increased in at least ten levels. "Until I reach Level one-hundred I'm never accepting a sparring match with you again..."
"Awww," she whined, "Come on, please don't do that do me. You know I can't help it--"
"Yeah--yeah. "It's a part of my Foxy nature"...or whatever." I recited, "But why does it come out every time we're sparring?"
"Of course!" She chirped, hopping over next to me, "How else am I going to show my younger sis how much stronger I am than her...I gotta do it now while I can because soon you're going to be far stronger than me and I'll have no chance against you then..."
I laughed, shaking my head, "There's no way I'll get stronger than you at this rate...I can't even do one stupid job save to my fur!" A hand pat me on the head, rubbing that spot at the ear, but I wasn't in the mood to delve into the usual bliss that spot brought.
"You will. You just gotta give it time kitten," she hopped in front of me, walking backwards as we made our way back, "You reached level 50 before you were fourteen?! Do you know how awesome that is!?" She seemed to wait for a moment, and I didn't care to answer, "It's amazing that's what...I barely reached level thirty-seven by the time I was that age, and that was just from killing rodents and the occasional thug I came across when I was younger and able to dive into dungeons...You did that and more!"
"I was just doing it to survive," It was really all there was to it, but she just stopped us both. Putting her hands on the sides of my arms gently.
"You may have been doing it to survive, but you were a helluva lot stronger than I was at that age..." She pulled me into a hug, "...I mean, you first started going into dungeons at just seven years old--"
"I needed to--"
"You know you didn't," she hugged me slightly tighter, "You knew us at that age and you knew full well how far we would've gone to take you in and properly take care of you. When I'd heard that Pops had taken you in instead of coming to us, I'd felt hurt, almost betrayed, but I knew you only let him because he wouldn't have given you a choice, and because you were doing it to let us delve and grow stronger without having a distraction around 24/10."
I hadn't realized I was crying in her arms until I felt the wet spot at her shoulder when moving my head, she let me pull away but kept me held gently at arms length, "You still won't tell us what happened when you were younger, but just know that me and Wreign are always here for you. You can come to us for anything, even if it means angering Pops okay?"
I nodded, not wanting to speak on the matter.
"Awww, come on!" Wreign's familiar voice came in the distance, "You had a heartwarming moment with Foxy without me around to see it?!"
"Wolfy, you aren't mature enough to be included in such a wondrous moment." Freija huffed, tilting her head up as she looked at him, "You just have too much fluff up in that head of yours, you don't deserve such a pure display of feelings."
"Oh? Then what about the feelings I was giving you in the--" Another boom sounded and I couldn't help it. All the stress of the previous days left my body in a fit of giggling at their childishness towards the other.
"Hehehe," I looked at Freija and then Wreign with a grin, "So when do I get to tell Pops about the Marking Ceremony?"
He grinned back at me, putting a thumbs up and she looked at me with her mouth open wide, before noticing him and bashing his head into the dirt again with her feet. "Don't encourage her!"
She stomped on him twice before walking off back to the path out of the Sanctuary, mumbling, "I swear he does it on purpose to--" I didn't get to hear the rest as he mumbling decreased in volume; Though, I decided that was a good time to check on him--to make sure she didn't give him anything permanent, like brain damage...that would probably kill her.
"You're not dead are you?" I spoke to the hole in the ground. A clawed hand answered, dragging the rest of his red-furred body above ground with a groan.
"No" He huffed, setting his muzzle on level ground sighing and looking in the direction Freija went over the edge of the Medium sized crater. "Hey you think she'd actually be up for it?" I raised a brow at that and smiled at him.
"Seeing as how she already reacts to it I think you have a decent chance." I answered truthfully and he smiled wryly in thanks. "You're probably going to have to either force her to submit or something before asking though..." He barked in a laugh at that, agreeing.
"Yeah. She'd probably rather come close to dying in battle over being asked to marry someone." He turned to me with a grin, "But that doesn't mean I'm going to give up on trying."
I pat his head, "Good boy." He growled louder than the other times but did nothing to dissuade me otherwise. Then I grabbed his arm and tried my best at pulling him out of the hole, but he just sat there watching me for a good minute until I threw his arm away and started to climb out of the crater after Freija. I heard him mumble something about "cute" as I stomped away but I couldn't hear it over the embarrassment flooding my ears.
I caught up to her first--found her sitting on the first benches waiting--and he was pretty much right on my tail. She noticed and stood up with a practiced cool I'd only seen when she was working...or planning, "Alright. Now that you two slowpokes are here we can get on with the last series of events in my "Things to Embarrass Red with" day..."
I froze thinking exactly what Wreign spoke up about:
"You have an entire list of things to embarrass her with?!" He'd asked giddily.
She nodded and pushed his muzzle away at the nose when he got closer, "Yes, but there is no way in hell I'm going to let you get your wet-dog paws anywhere near it."
He huffed slinking back to follow as she started off back toward the city, "I only did that one time to you. Why won't you let it go already?"
"Because not only did you ruin one of my best dresses, but you also dragged your fight into our night out and got me involved." She shot him the glare hotter than the suns and I cringed, looking at him grimly.
It's going to be harder than I thought to get her to say 'yes' after hearing that Wreign...
A bit of a fun chapter, trying to show multiple sets of personalities while also keeping a lighter tone...hopefully I did it well enough (considering this is exactly the kind of thing I suck at). Let me know if there's anything relating to these kinds of relationships that I could chance or try to add more of!
Thanks for reading and I'll see you in the next one!
