Chapter 13

Obito's eyes opened to see something on the ceiling. He sat up, and squinted at it. He attempted to read the sloppy writing on the sheet of paper.

DEER OBITO

I SAW THAT YOU WER SLEPING AND I GOT YOU BAK TO BED. THANK YOU FOR SEEING THE STARS WITH ME IT WAS ALOTA FUN I LUV YOU

KYO

He thought he was going to cry. He smiled at the piece of paper, and stood up, balancing on top of the bed. He took the tape off of it, and sat back down on the bed to get a better look at it.

"How in the world did you carry me to bed and put that up there..?" He whispered to himself. He turned the paper over, and sure enough, there was more writing.

PS

IT WAS RELLY HARD TO TAKE YOU BAK TO BED SO I DRAGED YOU  ON THE GROWND IS THAT OKAY? ALSO I USED YOU AS A STOOL TO PUT THIS PAPR HERE

He chuckled, then immediately stopped and checked himself for bruises and/or scratches. Did she say that she used him as a stool? He was going to have to work on that.

He sighed, smiling. "But she did put me back in bed.." He got up out of bed, and remembered what Taki and Rin had told him.

All he could remember then was when Taki pulled him close to her face. He blushed, and hid his face in his hands. He could feel his heart practically beating out of his chest.

He yelled (or rather squealed) out in happiness and frustration. He didn't know which was more of the reason. He was so excited that she did that, but suddenly a nervousness came inside of him.

"No, no, she died a while ago, she probably doesn't love me anymore.." He whispered to himself. He squealed (in his own boyish way) again, this time in pure happiness.

"Maybe next time in that void she'll kiss me!" He bit his lip to keep himself from squealing again. "No. No she won't, she doesn't like me anymore, she's dead." His shoulders sagged at the realization.

He might not even visit that void ever again.. it might have just been a dream. In reality, there was no way he could ever see her again.

He puffed out his chest in a sudden confidence. This is exactly why he was doing his world peace plan!

He got out of bed, and opened the door. He was met with a pair of bright blue eyes. "Oh.. hi, Obito-san." Kyo greeted in her tired morning raspy voice.

"I'm not a stool," he replied, which made her chuckle softly. She yawned, and covered her mouth as she did so.

She continued walking down the hallway. Curious, he followed her all the way to the bathroom door. Kyo opened the door, and looked back at him expectantly.

He gave her a strange look. "Aren't you gonna help me?" She asked.

"What are you talking about?" Obito raised an eyebrow. She sighed, and closed the door. He looked around to occupy himself while she did her thing.

Walls. They were plain colored. Ceiling. White as always. Floor. The same dull wood.

The door opened, and Obito turned to see Kyo with a bright grin on her face. "I did it all by myself!" She exclaimed happily.

"Did what by yourself?" Obito didn't know what she could possibly be talking about.

Kyo gave him a confused look but then smiled again. "I went potty all by myself!"

Obito's face twisted into a confused and slightly disgusted expression. "I hope so," he replied.

Kyo looked down in disappointment. "Oh.." She looked around. "Where's Itachi-san?" She asked hopefully.

"Why?" He immediately asked.

"I wanna tell 'im, too!"

"That you went to the bathroom 'all by yourself'?" He asked.

Kyo ran down the hallway, and up to Itachi and Kisame's door. She was about to knock, but instead she sat down on the floor. She waited, and waited, and waited.

"What are you doing?" Obito inquired.

"Shh!" Kyo put a finger to her lips, and whispered, "they're sleepin', I think, so I'm jus' waitin'."

The door opened, and Kisame's head popped out. He looked down at Kyo sitting on the floor, looking up at him, and couldn't help but smile.

"Hey, kid! Whatcha doing?" He turned his head. "Itachi, look, Kyo's here."

Itachi came into view beside Kisame. "Good morning, Kyo. Where are your bandages?" Kyo stood up to look at the two, and gave them a huge smile, ignoring the part about the bandages.

"Kisame-san, Itachi-san, I went the the bafroom all by myself!"

Itachi pat her on the head. "Good job, Kyo. No one helped you?"

"Nope!" She turned her head to look at Obito. "Nope."

Obito furrowed his brow. "I don't get it. Why would she need help going to the bathroom?" He muttered.

Itachi mentally shook his head at him. "Children her age usually need help using the restroom."

Obito looked at Kyo, and walked over to her. "Then how did you get on by without your mother, not to mention in the woods."

Kyo shrugged. "I dunno. I don' remember." She paused, and looked down. She looked up at them again, this time with a worried face. "But I think mama should be here by now, actually a long time ago." She paused again.

"Do you know where my mama went?"

Before Itachi or Kisame could reassure her that she would indeed be coming back, Obito answered her. "No. Your mother is most likely dead. She will never come back."

Kyo's eyes trailed up to his, then to the floor, then to the ceiling. She grinned. "Okay!"

They were utterly surprised by her response. "K..yo.." Itachi started.

She quickly turned away from them. "I-I'm just gonna go to my room now, okay?"

Kisame reached out his hand towards her. "Kyo.." Still facing away from them, she ran down the hallway, to her room.

Kisame sighed outwardly, and folded his arms. He looked at Obito.

"What? I only told her the simple truth." He said.

-

Kyo ran into her room, and slammed the door shut. She ran to her bed, and sat down, facing the window. She looked down, and grabbed the edges of her dress, balling the fabric into her small fists.

She sniffed a few times, and brought the skirt to her mouth, trying not to cry. Little whining noises sounded at the back of her throat, the noise threatening to come out of her mouth. Her lip trembled.

She choked back on her unshed tears. Opening her mouth, a heartbreaking childish crying noise came out.

A tired voice mumbled, "Kyo? Is that you?" Kyo's head whipped around to see Sasori sitting up in his bed, his hair all messy, looking tired.

She cleared her throat, and blinked back the tears. There was no way she could cry in front of Sasori.

"Ano.." She started, her voice wavering. She took in a breath, and started again. "Why.. why are you here, Sasori-san..?"

"So now I'm not allowed to take a nap after a mission? What kind of organization did I sign myself up for?"

"No, no, it's okay.. I jus' thought.. that no one was in here.." She could feel the tears coming again, and she quickly turned away, tightening her grip on her dress. She climbed down the bed, and brought her knees to her chest.

At least she was completely out of Sasori's sight. A waterfall of tears started rolling down her cheeks, and she clenched her teeth. Closing her eyes, she covered her mouth with her hands.

She tipped her head back to look at the ceiling. She was quiet for a few moments, before she couldn't help but say it, shutting her eyes closed again.

"Mama.."

She opened her eyes, to meet a pair of brown ones. Sasori was crouched down, and cocked his head to the side, studying her face.

She covered her face, continuing to sob. Sasori wasn't sure what to do. He didn't even care about this girl, yet something inside him made him feel strange, and the feeling wouldn't go away.

He wrapped his arms around her, surprising her a little. She kept crying, the tears flowing down her cheeks.

She clenched her fists into his shirt, breathing heavily. He could hear her silently screaming inside, suffocating with each breath she took. He stroked her hair, again and again, in an attempt to calm her troubled mind.

"Now, tell me what's wrong," he whispered, running his fingers through her hair, hardly believing that he was actually acting like such a mother.

She looked up into his eyes. "Mama," she breathed, "she's gone."

"And she won't be coming back."
