Chapter 9: Timing is Everything
Third Person POV
*10 minutes earlier*
Clockwork watched from his chamber the arrival of the Pines family and their friends. They group immediately met Danny Phantom and Ford had become interested in the teen. The old ghost sped up time slightly and watched Ford and Dipper analyze the sample of ectoplasm they took from the scene of the battle in downtown Amity Park. Skipping over the next few moments in time, Clockwork focused on what was happening in the current time. Those from the other dimension, and the three friends from this dimension were all gathered in one hotel room. Clockwork sighed as he watched Sam prevent Ford from taking a sample of Danny's blood. He could understand her distrust of the strangers but she was just delaying the inevitable.
Eventually Ford was able to gain a sample and he, along with Dipper, went into the next room to analyze the sample. Clockwork stopped watching and paced back and forth in his chamber. He knew the Observants would be here in fifteen seconds. That did not give him much time to come up with an excuse. But he knew it would all turn out fine, no matter what he said, because the Master of Time had a plan. Surely enough, once fifteen seconds had passed, two Observants were outside Clockwork's tower.
They barged into the tower and made their way to Clockwork's chamber, not bothering to be respectful. The Time Master floated calmly in the middle of the chamber, waiting for their lecture to begin. "Clockwork!" One of the Observants bellowed as they entered the chamber.
The elder ghost merely raised an eyebrow and replied a simple, "Yes?"
The two Observants floated over to Clockwork, their giant eyeballs narrowed in anger. Like all Observants, the two that had just entered Clockwork's chamber looked alike. The only difference between the two was the one to the right of Clockwork wore a black sash around their waist and the one to his left wore a gold sash. The one to the right of Clockwork spoke first. "Clockwork, do you have any idea how angry the council is right now?"
The purple clad ghost raised a gloved hand to his chin as he shifted into a form resembling a toddler. "I can imagine that the council is very unhappy with this development, but if they were truly angry they most certainly would not have sent you two." Clockwork fought as hard as he could to prevent a smirk from appearing on his face. Oh how he loved to mess with these single minded fools. Though he could only do so sparingly, this was a very important matter that they were currently dealing with after all. And he was already on thin ice after he 'cheated' back during the 'Danny's evil alternate self' incident.
The Observant to Clockwork's left, wearing the golden sash, spoke up as his partner was currently mute with anger. "We do not have time for this Clockwork. The time-space continuum is at risk! You must eliminate them!" He urged. The other Observant nodded in agreement.
Clockwork sighed and turned away from the two ghosts. He faced the large screen and began to adjust the time on his staff. "It's always the same thing with you Observants. If you have a problem, you eliminate it. So narrow minded indeed." As the elder ghost shifted into a form that resembled an elderly man, he could practically see the rage flowing from the two ghosts floating behind him.
"You would be wise to hold your tongue Clockwork. Or have you forgotten your place in all this?" The Observant wearing the black sash growled. The other Observant, the one who donned the gold sash, cautiously placed a hand on his partner's shoulder. It was a silent warning to watch what they said around the Time Master. If any Observant in existence said that they weren't the slightest bit afraid of Clockwork, they would be lying. The legendary Time Master was not one to be messed with. In the blink of an eye, he could make it so that you never existed or alter your history so that you met a gruesome end. Though he was a kind spirit, when someone pushed him the wrong way they would be sure to suffer. It took a lot to upset Clockwork, so you knew that if he was angry with you, you really screwed up.
Clockwork shook his head. Leave it to the Observants to forget who was really in control in all of this. Though he felt no need to be the one to remind them. That could wait until another time. For now, he had to deal with the matter at hand. Turning back to the Observants, Clockwork shifted into a middle aged form. "I understand the urgency of the situation. But do not be concerned, I have it under control." The Observants did not look convinced by Clockwork's words, so he continued. "I assure you both, as well as the entire council. The anomalies will be dealt with." Clockwork said, his voice monotone and void of emotion.
Though they still not look entirely convinced, the Observants nodded and left to inform the council. Relieved that the bug-eyed nuisances were finally gone, Clockwork turned back to the screen and watched as Ford and Dipper were working hard at analyzing the blood sample. Ford's elbow bumped a vial of blue liquid and it began to fall to the ground. Just as Dipper and Ford began to dive for the vial Clockwork's hand raised to the top of his staff.
"Time out."
Normal Line Break here. Anybody else wondering where those two annoying guys who talk all the time are? Okay, back to the chapter.
Ford stared up in awe at the magnificent being before him. It glowed with a stunning white aura and it's skin was a light blue. It's eyes were a deep red and there was a jagged black scar running through it's left eye. The ghost wore a violet cloak and there appeared to be a clock-like mechanism in it's chest. Two gloves covered in watches adorned their hands, and there was also a watch attached to the black belt around the ghost's waist. In one of the ghost's hands was a tall staff with a clock at the top. To Ford's surprise, the ghost shifted from a middle aged form to one that resembled a toddler. The ghost smiled at him. "Hello Stanford Pines, I am Clockwork." Extending a gloved hand to the older man, Clockwork's leaned in closer to the awestruck man, "We have much to talk about."
Ford's gaze was glued to Clockwork's face. "How do you know my name?" He questioned, taking the elder ghost's hand. Clockwork helped Ford to his feet, Ford being careful to avoid making contact with the suspended blue liquid. It was then he noticed the gear shaped medallion on his chest.
"You have many questions, I can see, but they will have to wait." Clockwork said quickly, "Right now we have a larger matter of importance to deal with." Ford's attention snapped back to Clockwork. He quickly recognized the ghost's urgent tone, and pushed away his questions and excitement. The older man adjusted his glasses, giving Clockwork his full attention. Seeing that Ford's focus was now fully on him, Clockwork began to explain. "As I said before, I am Clockwork. I am the Master of Time in this dimension." The elder spirit's eyes narrowed. "And you, Stanford Pines, are interfering with the time stream."
Ford's eyes widened as he listened to Clockwork's smooth tone turn into one of warning. "You arrival in the dimension has upset many forces. And due to you being from a reality not of this world, you are an exception to the laws of time here. Meaning you, your friends and your family are threats to the balance of this universe." The Master of Time informed him.
As the elder ghost's words sunk in, Ford groaned and smacked himself in the forehead. "Of course! How could I have not factored in the consequences of visiting alternate dimensions and interfering with their course of events?!" He grumbled.
Clockwork's expression softened. "Do not be so hard on yourself. It is understandable that you were excited to use your invention and travel to different dimensions." Ford looked up at the ghost, and saw him reaching into his cloak as he shifted into a form that resembled an elderly man. From within his cloak, Clockwork pulled out a small cylindrical device, that had a green base and silver etchings in it. Ford gasped as he recognized the device.
"Is that an-" He began, only for Clockwork to interrupt.
"Yes, it is a rare form of Osmonium metal. It has been manufactured into a battery that will work with your Inter-Dimensional Transporter." Clockwork answered, holding out the battery to the older man. Ford cautiously reached for the battery, only for Clockwork to yank it away. "I'm sorry, but I cannot allow you to receive this just yet." The Time Master apologized.
Ford looked up at the ghost, a questioning look in his eyes. "I don't understand," he began, "you just told me that our presence here is effecting the continuum. This is the way for us to leave without any further conflict. Why are you not allowing me to take it?" Under his layer of calm and questions, Ford was growing annoyed. This ghost was quickly getting on his nerves as everything Clockwork seemed to say, he ended up taking back. In actuality, he just wanted to get his friends and family home before any of them got hurt.
Clockwork sighed, "Much to my displeasure, and soon yours, but you and your merry gang can't leave." The elder spirit tucked the battery back into his cloak and shifted into his toddler form. This part was the one he was most unhappy about telling. Yet, he knew it was the only way that the Pines and their friends could leave the dimension without causing any more damage. Floating lower to the ground, Clockwork stared directly into Ford's eyes, "You have made yourselves a part of the current timeline. If you leave now, it could have grave consequences. So, before I can allow you to leave, you must complete the task you were sent here to do."
Confusion appeared in Ford's features. "What are you talking about? It was pure accident we were sent here. I was only being curious." The older man explained.
Clockwork shook his head. "Nothing is an accident Stanford. Only when you can accept that, you will be able to see all." The elder spirit began to emit a blue light and Ford had to shield his eyes from the bright light. "Complete the task and you may return home. And do so quickly, I can only keep them pacified for so long." Clockwork's voice echoed as he reached for the medallion around Ford's neck. Wrapping his gloved fingers around the gear's grooves, he gave it a quick tug and Ford was once more frozen in time. The violet clad ghost floated into the next room and looked over the scene, his gaze lingering on the unconscious halfa.
Closing his eyes, Clockwork tucked the medallion into his cloak and hovered his hand over the stopwatch button on his staff. In an echoing voice, Clockwork spoke the words, "Time in." and pressed the button. Time slowly began to pass again and Clockwork teleported out of the room in a flash of blue light. He appeared back in his chamber, and watched as Ford began to process what had just occurred. Turning away from the screen, the Master of Time floated out of his chamber. He knew that more Observants would be coming to reprimand him soon, and he was prepared. As the Master of Time, he sought to have the timeline benefit all. He made the calls, and if the Observants didn't like it Clockwork didn't care. Gripping his staff tightly in his hand, Clockwork muttered to himself, "I do hope that I have made the right choice."
A/N: Hey people, sorry for not updating for so long. Hope the slightly longer chapter makes up for it ^-^
Sparks: Like that'll hold off the mobs.
Blitz: Yeah, I mean have you seen them? It's wild!
Me: Wha?! Where have you two been?
Sparks: *shrugs* We took some time off. Besides, this chapter seemed a bit serious.
Blitz: We felt like our comedic commentary would be out of place.
Me: *rolls eyes* Slackers. Anyways, thanks for reading and I'll see you all in the next one!
