Chapter 21: Talk With Darius
Kyla
I cannot believe that asshole! How dare he say anything like that to me. I may not be experienced, but I have seen things. Uncle and my older cousins have explained things to me as well. So, I know exactly what he was talking about with my mouth being wide open like that, and what he would show me.
Raucous laughter catches my attention. Looking over to what I thought was the sleeping vampire, I release my anger on him, since his friend has already left.
"You think he's funny? That's not funny at all. It was beyond rude!" I say with indignation.
"Right honey, keep telling yourself that." He says without opening his eyes.
"What is that supposed to mean?" I questioned and although he can't see, I cannot stop myself from placing my hands on my hips. "It means I can smell your arousal from his words alone filling this entire room." He simply says from his spot in the chair.
"I am not aroused." This makes him open his eyes and look at me.
He makes a show of sniffing the air, looks at me with an eyebrow raised, "You sure about that little human?"
I know it's petulant, but I stomp my foot and begin pacing the room. "Well, I don't want to be. I try not to let him get to me. For some reason it's difficult. I don't fully understand why." I stop pacing and look at him.
"Do you know why I am feeling this way?" I worry my lip as I wait for his response.
He sighs and looks to the couch. "Come sit down, let's have a chat." He leans forward and pats one of the cushions.
Usually, I would do my best to be difficult and fight with him. Tell him how I don't want to sit, and that he isn't the boss of me, but I feel exhausted. The mental excursion I'm going through is hell on my body.
Walking to the couch, I step over his legs that he still has placed on the coffee table and sit with a huff. Crossing my arms over my chest I look at him. He has resumed leaning his body back and closed his eyes again. Just when I think I'm going to have to tell him to say something he speaks.
"It's quite simple really. You're his mate." His words are so nonchalant.
"He told me that already." I roll my eyes with annoyance. He's not going to tell me any latest information.
"Did he explain to you what that entails?" He pops open one eye and looks at me.
Shaking my head, no, he goes on to tell me. "It means that you were meant to come into this world at the same time as him. That when you two are together there is a powerful force that brings you to one another. He is yours and you are his in every way."
"So, let me get this straight. Because of some super powerful hormones, a vampire turns me on?" I can't help the laughter that comes out of my mouth.
"That is one of the most ludicrous things I have ever heard. You can't belong to someone just because in your world these supernatural elements bring two people together..."
"Vampires," I look up at him "Not people, two vampires, together. It's not ludicrous, it's the way of this world. Every vampire has a mate, not everyone tends to find said mate, but they are there nonetheless."
"Well, I am not a vampire. I mean I know what Diedrek believes, but there must be a logical explanation for why I am so different." I look down at my hands, secretly wondering if I even believe my words anymore.
"Keep telling yourself that little human. Whatever helps you sleep at night." He closes his eyes again. Just when I think he's about to fall asleep, his voice startles me, "You can try and fight what you are, and your feelings for him. Hate to tell you there won't be anyway you can win that battle."
He goes quiet once more dismissing me all together, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I lay my head back, closing my eyes, and I take this time to think about everything I have learned here in one night. Could it be true? Is there a possibility in the slightest that my father is one of them? If so, what does that make me?
Did my mother know? If so, why didn't she tell anyone? Most importantly I can't help thinking that if it is true, then I too am evil in some way. That I could someday hurt those I love more than life itself.
Something tells me my uncle would know. He must, he found out everything even when others didn't want him to. I need to get the hell out of this place, find him, and demand the answers he has hidden from me my entire life!
