CHAPTER 33: JAR OF HAZINESS
The room went silent for some time. Pamella could feel herself sweating of awkwardness all over.
God! This feels like giving an oral presentation back in high school! Why did the atmospbere need to become like this?!
- Um... Your Highness must like games right?!
The King smiled and adjusted his position on his throne. He cunningly smiled; feeling a sort of amusement by the young man's offer.
- Everyone... Likes games...
Pamella got her compossure back and rising herself straight off watching at his royal Highness, grinned.
- Fantastic! Then...
-Not so fast!
The King interrupted her, leaving Pamella with her words stuck on her throat and cut off breath.
- Huángshì wǒ... will be the one to establish the game we'll play!
Pamella's Adam's Apple bobed while she gulped.
This King is making my planning go all to waste! Damm... I didn't expect such turns of events!
Pamella,
- Very well your Highness...
The rest of the group remained expectant of it all. The reason they did not speak was because they really had nothing to make word of. They hadn't planned anything really, they only had hopes for Pamella to make up some ridiculously believable story and get the whole task over with. But grabbing hold of a Wise Spirit's golden charm was no easy task, so until things remained like they were now, their help wasn't needed.
Although, from their point of view, Pamella's appearance looked like a pitiful little chic ready to be roasted.
Xian Leng thought,
If she was going to be lost in her own random attempts, and beg shamelessly for help, why in Heaven's sake did she go forth with this?!
The King spoke again,
- Also, WHAT kind of thing would you bargain ? You come all here to bargain with me, showing such audacity towards the me and trying to manipulate things to your favor!
Pamella kept on grinning. Her face cheecks and gritted teeth hurt by the force she was putting on them. She didn't think that the King would shove on to her faces what their real intention was. So, it was better to go straight to the point, no matter how unbelievable it would be.
- I would like... For his Highness... To hand over his golden spirit charm!
The Kings eyes widened. He asked himself if the man was right on his mind. How could he be asking him to hand over the principal and most powerful source to his powers. He certainly must be insane.
From the other end of the room DuZhi wooed and clapped sarcatically.
- Way to go matchstick! Keep it up! It's working!
Keep up blabering nonsense! If we get killed, I'll be sure to drag you with me to Hell!
Pamella glared at the little devil while Xian Leng hit him on the back of its head.
The King sighed and all serious spoke.
- The charm is useless on mortals. Especially those who have poor Qi flow on their bodies. For what reason should I hand over the charm to you? What importance does it have a powerful weapon as this?
Everyone stared dumbfounded as the King's hand went through his chest and extracted a golden dragon charm.
DuZhi's and Hei Bao's eyes twitched.
Disgusting... Humans are really... So, disgusting...BLEHR!
Pamella squinted in awe, but later exclaimed, while also taking into consideration what the pair of farmers had spoken to her about. She tucked her robe's neck; closing it more than normal. The metal coldness from the necklace accompanied by her nervousness made her have goosebumps.
- I need it because... Because... I need it to save the World!
Xian Leng slapped his forehead murmuring,
- This idiot...
Pamella slapped her inner self.
What was that aboit you dumbass! What kind of reasonable answer is that?! But... If this turns out to be like the manhwas and novels where the charcter's bosses are dumb as f*ck, then this poor chit chat would not be so useless.
The King laughed outloud. The man was insane indeed, but in he had determination written allover his face, which stated that he may perhaps, really, need the charm. He wondered if the man held somehing special he may want to get his hands on.
The King exclaimed,
-BRING THE JAR OF HAZINESS!
Suddenly a group of servants with ropes strongly gripped, brought forth a giant ivory jar. It was the size of a washing machine.
A sweet, pungent smell expanded over the whole room. Xian Leng,
Is that...
The rest of the gang,
WINE!
Pamella gaped at the object that was placed in front of her, accompanied by a table and sitting cushions. On the table's surface, two bronze cups rested empty. Pamella watched as the servants prepared everything and they were again left alone in the royal room.
Inspecting the giant jar full of alcohol, Xian Leng was thinking that it couldn't be that the King was planning to have a drinking competition with Pamella, especially with that much alcohol. That much alcohol could throw into a coma or even worse kill her. His jaw tensed and the grip on his sword's head hardened.
The King continued stating,
- I hope your drinking is of excellence.
Pamella stared at the table, then the giant jar, and the King and then back again.
He can't be serious... He isn't thinking of making me drink ALL THAT! Even if this is a magical world and the impossible was possible, I will certainly die if I drink that much alcohol!
Sensing the anxiety in her eyes, the King rose from his throne and chuckled while stepping down the stairs that directed him to the table with the empty cups. He shifted his robes long sleeves and gracelessly sat on one of the cushions. He grabbed the cup in front of him and gestured to the still shocked standing man.
- You can't fear this little much of wine, can you?
LITTLE?! That's what he says...
He continued,
- Also, it has Qi enhancement properties, it'll be good for a man with as poor spiritual energy as you.
He glanced at Pamella awaiting her to forfeit and back out of the deadly gamble, but after a minute or two, she smiled and giggled. Jokingly, she imitated the King's accommodating actions and after being sited she picked up her empty cup and moved it forward. She smirked and cunningly said,
- I gladly accept his Majesties offering~
ONE HOUR LATER...
Everyone was really impressed at Pamella's resistance to alcohol, including herself. She thought she was going to lose consciousness before even reaching one fourth of the wine, but she was still thinking straight as a line.
This World is AWESOME! Anyone would have died of alcohol poisoning at my place. Unbelievable!
She smiled to herself as she gulped down another shot of wine. The King smiled as well, and poured himself another cup and then another, and another, and another.
The gang didn't know how much cups had they drank down, but more than half the jar was already gone and Pamella already showed a flushed face and glazed droopy eyes. The King on the other hand kept on smiling and drinking; all well.
Pamella,
Ugh... I feel sick... If I don't die from drinking, I most probably would die from puking my soul out. How much is this guy planning to keep on drinking?! He should be in the same state as me but... Then again... He is a powerful entity; I am just a mortal. Maybe, he has drunk resistance superpowers...?
The King,
- You look pale my friend... Are you not feeling well?
Jiti murmured,
- This sneaky bastard...
Hei Bao nodded.
DuZhi followed,
- And this is what I meant with, that it didn't matter in what realm you find yourself; evil is everywhere... This Spirit is wicked.
Since Pamella and Xian Leng's souls were connected, Xian Leng started getting lightheaded as a result from Pamella's alcohol consumption. It wasn't always their mind and bodies felt the same things, or partly of it. Only when the effects or emotions were strong enough, they broke the spiritual barrier and intertwined. The alcohol must be getting to Pamella already, which wasn't a good sign.
Things got worse when the King speculated,
- Mister Chu you don't need to force yourself... Even too much power can overwhelm once health. No need to worry for you heads, you can peacefully walk away, just remember to leave the necklace before you walk out the door.
Pamella's eyes went from sleepy to bloodshot.
What did he say...?!
[Huángshì wǒ]- Royal "I".
[piào liɑnɡ]- Chinese for "pretty chic", or "pretty" as a compliment.
