At the comic book store, Dasia sat at a table with Michael beside her and Edgar and Alan across from them. Michael looked distraught like he hadn't slept in days and now this searching was on his mind as well.
"Star and I were on and off for years. There was a lot between us but I think she always felt guilt for what we did to those guys. It drove us apart as well. She would still talk about them like one day she would see them again. I don't know how but if she were able to, it wouldn't surprise me if she did. We were young and stupid thinking we were doing the best by killing something we knew very little about." Michael started as he looked at Dasia.
"They were murderers too! They killed tons of people because they needed blood man!" Edgar argued with Michael.
"There are quite a few vampires who have been rehabilitated actually, able to use something called glamour. It would erase the memory of being fed from and allow the human to continue normal life without any side effects." Dasia said as she looked at Edgar and Alan. "Some didn't have the choice in becoming vampires, they are usually the ones who do best with the glamour effect."
Michael looked at her with wide eyes, she knew she had a lot to explain to him. However Adrain and Chris then walked into the shop with grim looks on both of their faces. Everyone turned to them, giving their full attention to them.
"We found another cave, Star was inside there but not in a way we would want you to see. The corner has her body and wants you to come identify her and then we can put her to rest." Chris tells Michael as he gently puts his hand on Michael's shoulder.
"I haven't seen her in almost five years, she sent me a postcard from here and that was my only clue to where she was." Michael said as he pulled the postcard from his pocket and put it on the table before them.
On the message side were only two words. "My Sorry." written in beautiful cursive handwriting. Michael broke down right then and there as he tried to keep himself steady but it was failing.
"I think that is best left for tomorrow. Adrian take him back to his hotel and we'd better keep an eye on him." Dasia says, looking down at the man.
Adrian nodded and helped Michael up and out of the comic shop, Alan and Edgar took off upstairs to get some rest before they helped Michael tomorrow. Chris and Dasia walked out to the boardwalk and began to walk around.
"They are out here tonight aren't they?" Chris asked Dasia as he looked around.
"Yep, look for four wannabe rockers from the 80's and you've found them." Dasia nodded as she walked forward.
"Dasia, don't let them bite you. It'll kill them." Chris warned her as she continued walking forward.
Dasia knew the legends about vampires and immortals, their blood was toxic to vampires once but it wasn't always that way. According to legend if it were for the immortals the vampires would have died around the time of the black plague. By some miracle, immortals couldn't be infected by the plague and this would allow them to help the vampires by letting them feed upon them. No one knew how or when it changed to their blood being toxic to vampires.
"She's back." Marko chuckled from the side as he saw Dasia walking along the boardwalk.
"Good, I want my jacket back." Dwayne said as he walked forward to cut off her path.
Seeing someone standing before her, blocking her path, she looked up to see Dwayne looking down at her. She knew he wanted his jacket back from her and she was about to say something when she felt someone back up into her, causing her to fall forward pushing herself right against the vampire.
"Idiots don't know how to walk." Dwayne groaned as he helped Dasia stand up again.
"Thanks, I agree they don't. Either from alcohol or just bad manners. You take your pick on the cause." she says as she dusts herself off. "Your jacket is at my home just down the way on the beach."
"Good, I'll walk you. I'm full for tonight." Dwayne says as he starts to walk ahead.
Shaking her head she walked beside him thinking to herself that he really wanted the jacket and for the emotional attachment to be so strong as to come after her for it meant he was at least sentimental.
"Why are you staring at me?" Dwayne asked as she blinked, she clearly didn't realize she was staring at him.
"Sorry, I was thinking and zoned out." she shrugged, not wanting to make a big deal out of it.
Getting to her beach cottage as she called it, she climbed up the stairs with Dwayne right behind her. Opening the glass sliding doors, she walked in and went to her room to get his jacket but as she flipped on the light she saw her room had been completely wrecked. Turning around she found the guest room across the way as well and whoever had been there was searching for something, she had no clue what. Slowly making her way to the living room she was surprised to see Dwayne held against the wall by someone who had her back turned to her.
"Where is she? Where is Dasia? That bitch killed my husband and I am going to take her life." the woman said as Dasia saw her holding a sword against his neck.
Dwayne swallowed as he looked past the woman at Dasia and then back to his assailant.
'You that loyal to her huh? What has she offered you? Don't let her fool you." the woman said and Dwayne just rolled his eyes.
"I don't know about anything that happened to your husband." Dwayne mumbled trying to keep his own head.
Dasia had heard enough and grabbed the woman by her hair and pulled her off Dwayne. The woman coughed as she adjusted to stand back up as Dasia moved to stand between the woman and Dwayne.
"I am Dasia, I don't know who you are but if you want me then here I am." Dasia said as she held her hands out.
The woman laughs a madman's laugh as she takes her sword and lifts it up high. Dwayne moves back a bit but Dasia stands still as the woman runs at Dasia and runs her through with the sword. The vampire stands in shock as the woman tries to repeat the deadly blow another time but this time Dwayne moves and holds the woman's arm up.
"Enough!" he yells at the crazy woman.
"Yeah, I'll see her in hell." the woman says before impaling herself with the same blade.
Hearing a thud from beside him, he looks over and sees Dasia passed out on the floor with blood coming from her wound staining her long white dress. Ignoring the other dying woman beside him, he rushes up to Dasia and can see blood coming from her lips. He remembered how David warned them about her, that her blood was different and not to be fed from. If she was so different that meant he should keep her alive right? Making a hasty decision he picked her up in his arms and she barely got a glimpse of him before passing out.
"Hang on Dasia, David can help, I think." he tells her and he holds her close.
Paul watched from the opening of the cave, he was just waiting for Dwayne who said he only went to get his jacket from Dasia but just like the others he knew there was something about her that called out to him. David and Marko were already inside getting ready to rest during the daylight hours.
"He'll be back, Dasia isn't a threat to us. She's trying to keep the peace with us if anything." David reassures Paul who nods.
Marko then turns his head as if he could smell something the others hadn't yet. Rushing up the entrance he saw Dwayne in the distance and he was holding something. As he got closer he could see a familiar white dress and red hair. He was holding Dasia!
"David, Dwayne brought company." Paul says as he points outside of the cave.
David goes to the entrance and looks to see Dwayne almost to them and Dasia passed out in his arms. When he was close enough, they also saw the blood stain that was on her dress and growls came from all of their mouths. Someone had harmed her, again.
Dwayne rushed inside and past all of them. Laying her on a makeshift table, each of them looked down at Dasia whose eyes were closed and her mouth had a small trickle of blood on it. Her long white dress had a giant red mark on it and a hole through it.
"A woman attacked her before killing herself." Dwayne explained to his brothers.
"Why?" Paul asked curiously.
"The woman said that Dasia had killed her husband, Dasia blocked me with her body and opened her arms wide as if allowing the woman to take her life." he explained further.
David didn't say anything as he grabbed random things from around the cave and blocked off the exit. The others watched him and didn't say anything to stop their leader in his random task.
"We stay in here, we need answers from her." David tells the group.
"She's dying, how do we save her? Do we turn her in?" Marko asks in a somewhat panicked voice.
"No, just wait and see what happens." David said as he walked to the inside of the cave as if to grab something.
Anger and confusion went through their minds as they looked down at the very pale Dasia. Marko went to her side and gently pressed his fingers against her neck hoping to find a pulse. Lucky for them he could still feel her pulse. He was relieved to at least feel that, looking back to Paul and Dwayne they too looked relieved. They were becoming tired and weak as they stood beside the hopefully sleeping Dasia but David still hadn't returned.
"I'll take my first watch with her, you guys go rest." Paul said as he laid down beside Dasia.
"Don't do anything stupid." Dwayne warned Paul who just rolled his eyes.
"We mean it Paul, we want her alive when we come back." Marko also chimed in.
"I get it, go sleep you two grumps." Paul retorted.
Marko and Dwayne went further into the cave, to total darkness so they could rest and build up their energy again. The whole cave was dark but where they slept was much darker and quieter. Paul was playing with his rings on his fingers and he could hear Dasia breathing which made him more adapt to her rhythm. He could feel his eyes begging to close and he moved to sit up when Dasia's arm reached out and stopped him. He looked over at her, shocked.
"Dasia?" he asked her as she opened her eyes and looked at him.
"Paul? How did I end up back here?" Dasia asked as she looked about the cave.
"Dwayne brought you back, you were run through, we've kept you here and now you can explain how the hell you survived." Paul said as he took her hand and sat up beside her.
