Part 2 of You Love Her
Prompt #3
Requested by me bc no one asked for a part two but I'm writing it anyway
Summary: He finally works up the courage to tell you how he feels about you.
QOTP: Peyton and Ravi or Peyton and Blaine?
Word Count: 1780
Blaine -
"Oh, this one smells like cupcakes," Y/N says, holding an air freshener out to me in the middle of Bath and Body Works.
When she first got me to go buy an air freshener, I was thinking we'd buy a little cheap one from Walmart, but she had other plans. Not that I'm complaining. She could drag me into the Gucci store to buy a $1,000 air freshener, and I wouldn't protest.
Don E was right — I am in love with her. I've known it for years now, not that I'd ever admit it. Definitely not to her.
"You want this one?" I ask, referring to the cupcake scented one she just handed me.
She thinks for a moment, looking at all the other options. "I don't know... Which one do you like?"
I shrug. "It's up to you." Because it is. It always is.
She thinks some more, picks up a couple and smells them, then finally grabs one called Warm Vanilla Sugar. "This one." I put the cupcake one back, and we go to the register to pay. As we're walking out, she asks, "Are you hungry?"
"Are you?"
"Yeah."
"Where do you wanna go?"
She doesn't take long to answer, so she probably already had it in mind. "Y/F/R." So, that's where we go.
As I'm sitting there across from her, talking and laughing, I find myself wishing that this was an actual date. But I know it's not, and thinking about it just makes me feel worse. She notices.
"What's wrong?"
I shake my head a little and attempt to brighten up, smiling. "Nothing. I'm fine."
"Are you sure?" she asks suspiciously, leaning forward. "Because you don't seem fine."
"I'm fine," I insist. "Do you want dessert?"
"Yes," she replies. "I also want you to tell me what's wrong."
She seems almost hurt that I won't tell her, and it almost makes me consider it. But I can't. This is the one time I have to tell her no. "Nothing is wrong."
She sits back in her seat and goes quiet for a while. She's not laughing or smiling anymore, and it takes all my willpower to keep from just blurting out how I feel about her. Finally, she says. "You know, I never thought you would blatantly lie to me."
"Y/N-"
"Blaine, I have known you for years. I've seen you lie through your teeth to just about everyone in Seattle and then some. I know when you're lying, and you're lying to me right now. You've never lied to me before. What's wrong?"
I think for a moment, looking at her, then back down at my nearly empty plate. Finally, I mumble, "I love you."
She leans forward again. "What?"
I say it louder, though just barely, and look at her to gauge her reaction. "I love you."
"You..." she starts, seemingly shocked. "You love me?" I nod, and instead of what I expected her to do — politely reject me, change the subject, or even storm out of the restaurant — she becomes suspicious. "Is this a joke?"
"No," I say, confused and shaking my head. "No, I wouldn't joke about this. And I thought you said you could tell when I was lying."
She's quiet for a moment, then asks, "You really love me?"
"Yes."
She smiles. "I love you, too."
"Wait, really?"
Major -
I never thought a human being could sweat this much without any exercise. Honestly. I'm about to puke.
Ravi's been nagging at me to tell Y/N how I feel for the past hour, and — for the first forty five minutes — I told him no. At one point, though, he convinced me.
"I think she likes you, too. And, anyway, you'll never know if you don't try. What have you got to lose? She won't completely avoid you for the rest of your lives if she doesn't feel the same way. This is Y/N we're talking about."
Maybe it was his smooth, British accent that convinced me, or maybe he was actually making sense for once, but, either way, I decided to tell her when she came back.
We're still waiting.
"How long does it take to make cupcakes?" I ask nervously.
Ravi tries to stifle a laugh, but he doesn't do a good job of it. "She's probably painstakingly putting the decorations on yours."
"I hope not because I'm not gonna be able to eat it."
"Don't worry. I'll eat it for you."
Ten agonizing minutes later, there's a knock at the door. I jump up to go answer it, but hesitate as I have second thoughts.
She doesn't like me back. That's insane. Why would she?
"Go!" Ravi says. "You'll never know if you don't try!"
So, I take a deep breath, and I go.
When I swing the door open, she's smiling, holding two adorably decorated cupcakes, and about to say something. However, my stupid mouth decides to abandon common sense. "I love you."
She stops, confused at first, then shocked. "I... What?"
I'm blushing so hard I feel like my face is about to catch on fire. My voice raises, like, two octaves. "I... love you?"
"Really?" she asks. I might be going crazy, but she almost seems hopeful.
I nod. "Really."
She smiles, and I don't think I've ever been more relieved in my life. "I love you, too."
"That was simultaneously the cutest and funniest thing I have ever seen," Ravi says, walking over to us. He grabs the cupcakes from her. "I'll just take these, thank you."
"The puppy one is for Major," she says.
Ravi looks at it, then shows it to me. It's a puppy's face entirely done in icing with chocolate chips for eyes, and it's freaking adorable. Ravi puts it on the kitchen counter, then mercilessly takes a huge bite out of his — which is decorated to look like a turtle — and starts walking away. "Well, I'll just leave you two love birds to it, then. I'm gonna go ahead and write my best man's speech for your wedding."
"Who said you were you gonna be my best man?" I reply.
He stops, then turns around to look at me with green icing in his mustache. "You take that back."
Ravi -
Liv has completely abandoned me, claiming that she has to deal with a family emergency, though I know she doesn't. She just wants me to be here alone when Y/N shows back up for the autopsy report on the body I'm examining right now.
Liv kept telling me to tell Y/N how I feel about her, which is ridiculous because I just think of her as a friend, but Liv's on matchmaker brain right now, so of course she'd say that. I don't like Y/N like that. Sorry, Liv, but I don't.
I really don't.
"Hey, Rav- oh, that's disgusting."
I whip around when I hear her voice. She's coming down the stairs, holding a file, and making a face at the cut open body. I quickly look back down at it, avoiding her eyes. "Ar-Aren't you a detective?"
"Doesn't mean I find this any less disgusting. How do you stand it?"
"You, uh, you get used to it after a while..."
It's quiet for a few seconds until she asks, "Where's Liv?"
"Left. Said she had a family emergency to deal with... Di-Did you need her or something?"
I see her shake her head out of the corner of my eye. "I just wanted to see if you were done with the autopsy yet, but I guess I underestimated how long they usually take. We just IDed him as the guy I'm looking for, so..."
"Well, um, right now, I'm thinking he died of asphyxiation, but I-I could find something else later to change my mind," I reply.
"Nice. I mean, not nice. Well, yeah, kind of nice, considering he was a murderer, but..." she trails off. Then, she sighs. "Anyway, I'll get out of your hair now. Just call me when you're finished."
"Sure," I say, then listen as she starts to walk up the stairs, debating with myself.
Maybe — maybe — Liv was right. Just maybe.
I mean, I get all stutter-y when I'm around her, and I couldn't even look at her while I was talking to her. My heart is also beating out of my chest right now.
So, if Liv was right, and I do have feelings for her, then I should at least ask her out, right?
"Wait," I say, looking up from the body. She turns in the doorway, waiting for me to say something, but I can't. The words Do you want to go out sometime? are stuck in my throat, and they won't come out. Nothing will. And the longer I go without saying anything, the more awkward and embarrassing this is going to get. Finally, I manage to blurt out something. "I love you."
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
"Huh?" she asks, coming down the steps now.
This is bad. This is very bad.
"Um, I said, I, uh... I love glue?" I say in a pathetic attempt to cover it all up.
She shakes her head, and I think I see her start to smile. "No, no, no. You said you love me." The smile is there in full force now.
I'm still trying to fix this whole situation. "No, I didn't say-"
"Yes, you did! You said you love me!"
I sigh. There's nothing to be done now. I screwed up. "Okay, fine, I did, but-"
"I love you, too."
I stop, looking at her. She's grinning from ear to ear, though she's not making fun of me. Still, there's no way she can be serious. "I'm sorry, what?"
"I love you, too," she replies, the grin still plastered to her face.
"Oh." I'm so shocked I don't even know what to say. "I... Wow. Okay. I... I really wasn't expecting this." Now I'm smiling, too.
"So..."
"So?"
"Well, what are we gonna do about this?"
I think for a moment. "Are you free for dinner Friday night?"
She nods. "Yeah. Just text me the details later. I can't think about food around this smell."
I laugh. "Alright. I will... shoot you a text. Sorry, that was stupid. Um, bye?"
She laughs, too. "Bye."
