Hooking Up Sounds So Crass (Rogers/Stark x reader)

When you woke up you were a bit disoriented, looking around the room and not immediately recognizing it. Sunlight was peeking in through the heavy curtains on the window, but you could tell that it was an early morning light, so you couldn't have slept too late.

Your phone was thankfully on the bedside table; you grabbed it to check the time and gasped when you saw that it was already 8am and you had to be to work at Stark Industries by 9. You rolled to your other side and the realization of where you were struck you. You had spent the night at the Avengers tower after the Christmas party that your boss had held there, and you were now waking up next to one of them.

"Steve?"

"Hmm?"

"Steve, you need to sneak me out of here." You jumped up and searched the room for your clothes, embarrassed at the situation you were finding yourself in. "If Mr. Stark sees me here, I'll get fired for sure."

Steve rolled over onto his back and watched you frantically get dressed and run to the bathroom to freshen up. He stood up and stretched, slowly making his way to stand in the doorframe behind you. "He's not going to fire you, (Y/N). We'll get you out of here, don't worry."

"Easy for you to say. I feel like you have pretty good job security here, Captain."

"I like it when you call me that," he murmured, moving to stand behind you and wrap his arms around your waist.

"Stop," you commanded, slapping his hands away, "not the time, Steve."

"So how about later, then? I feel like maybe we should have a proper date after this."

You looked at his reflection in the mirror and melted just a bit at his expression, hopeful that you would consent to seeing him again. "Steve, we agreed that this was a one-time thing." You turned around and walked past him to grab your shoes and avoid the conversation. "Mr. Stark wouldn't approve and you know it. Now, how do I get out of here without getting caught?"

Steve couldn't help but feel disappointed that he wouldn't be seeing you again, but he didn't want to push something that you didn't want to pursue. "Follow my lead," he sighed.

~~~
"Come on, come on," you whispered, trying to will the elevator to move faster. You looked at your phone nervously, seeing that the time was 9:15, hoping that your boss was running late too or that he was anywhere other than his office where he would see your late arrival. When the elevator finally opened, you slowly peeked your head out to find the office empty, and you let out a long sigh of relief. You threw your purse in your desk and flung your coat over your chair, sitting down to take a moment to catch your breath.
"Good morning, (Y/N). Nice of you to join us."
Shit. "Good morning, Mr. Stark. How are you doing today?" You gave him your best smile and hoped that he was going to let your tardiness go.
"Oh, I'm just great," he replied with a smirk, "I think this is the best morning that I've had in a long time. How about you? How was your morning, (Y/N)? Was it just the best ever?"
Oh god, did he know? Did he know that you left the party with Steve and never went home? No, he couldn't know; you left late this morning, so he shouldn't have been there to see you. "Nothing special, sir." You were desperate to change the subject as you could feel the redness building in your cheeks and it would be a dead giveaway. "I'm just going to get a few things ready for your 10am meeting, is there anything else I can do for you?"
"No, (Y/N), not for me."
~~~

"I'm picking you up at 6." It wasn't a question, but a command for you to be ready; Steve just wasn't taking 'no' for an answer. "If you still feel like we shouldn't see each other after that, then I'll step back."

"You really are persistent, Rogers," you whispered into your phone. You had been reduced to hiding in the bathroom so that Tony wouldn't hear you talking to his teammate. "Okay, just this once. Of course, that's what we said last night and look how that's turning out."

You turned off your phone and made your way back to your desk, only to find your boss standing next to it, waiting for your return. "(Y/N), I think I've had a great idea."

"What would that be, sir?"

"Well first," he said with a smile as he sat on the corner of your desk, "you start calling me Tony like I've asked you to a million times."

"Okay, and what's the next great idea...Tony?"

"I really have no need to be here at HQ when it's not that far from the tower. I'd much rather work where I can have my lab close by and be available for the team." You could feel your body tense, knowing what he was about to say. "Let's move the office to the tower and work there from now on. You were there last night to see the layout, so let's head over now and find our new home."

You took a deep breath and nodded, your stomach beginning to fill with knots.

He knew.

~~~
You woke up the next day in the same way you had the day before; in Steve's bed, frantically grabbing your phone and praying that you weren't late again. A very small sense of relief washed over you to see that you still had two hours before you needed to be awake, but now you were too far gone to think about sleeping any more.
"Steve?"
"Hmm?"
"We're really terrible at this."
Steve rolled over to look at you with sleepy eyes, grabbing your waist and pulling you down next to him. "Sorry, sweetheart, but I disagree."
"Not that," you laughed, slapping his chest, "terrible at keeping a resolution. We keep ending up back here."
"And that's a bad thing?"
"Well, no," you sighed, "but I'm starting to think that Tony knows, and it's making me nervous. He moved his office here yesterday, and I think it's so he can catch us."
Steve was quiet for a few minutes, thinking about his response and what he could say that would help rather than make you any more apprehensive than you already were. "Well then let's just tell him. Take the fun out of it for him."
"Easy for you to say, Steve. I happen to really like my job."
"Why are you so convinced that he'll fire you if he finds out about us?"
"It's in my contract. No relationships within the...company..." your voice trailed away at the realization of the answer that you had never considered before. You looked at Steve with a smile and leaned into him for a kiss.
"That's right, (Y/N)," he chuckled, "he's not my boss."
~~~

Steve had led you to the back of the tower so you could exit without being seen and head home to prepare for work. He waited until your return to meet you at the front and walk you in, leading you towards the lounge where the team was meeting to prepare for a mission later that day.

"Good morning, (Y/N)," Tony said, standing to greet you. "Everyone, this is (Y/N), you might remember her from the party the other night." You saw Tony's eyes dart to Steve for just a second, almost too fast to notice. "She'll be working here with me now that I've moved from Stark HQ."

After the exchange of pleasantries, you began to make your way towards the lab to start your day and set up your new office, but you were stopped by your own curiosity when the conversation took a turn towards Steve.

"Rogers, you look tired today," Tony smirked, "long night?"

"No, I had a great night, thanks." Steve was doing his best to not look at you, and if he found it even half as difficult as you were finding it to not look at him, then he was much stronger than you had ever realized.

"Great night, huh?" Natasha joined in, stepping over to his chair and leaning forward to look him in the eye as if she were trying to search his mind for the truth. "What made it so great, Cap? Did you finally break that 97-year-old streak?"

Steve's cheeks began to flush and he cleared his throat, breaking his resolve and turning to look at you. It was only for a moment, but to the master spy it was more than enough to give it all away.

"Oh my god, you did, didn't you?" she gasped.

"Not last night," he smirked.

"Steve!" you scolded, but all it did was make him laugh even more. You sat in the closest chair and leaned forward to hold your head in your hands, groaning at the sounds of celebration and money changing hands within the group. After a few minutes, Steve stood and walked to your side, kneeling down in front of you. "So who had the highest wager?" you asked, unsure if you even wanted to know.

"Nat took Barton for two hundred."

"Seriously? How am I supposed to work here now with even a shred of dignity? Did Tony say anything to you?"

Steve stood up and looked down at the group below, "Hey Stark," he called out, "you want to tell (Y/N) what you just told me?"

Tony walked up the stairs to stand next to Steve, leaning back against the railing with his arms crossed over his chest and a smile across his face. "I told Steve that I knew what was happening right away at the party. You guys were beyond obvious."

"Okay, so then why did you move your office here so suddenly the very next day?"

"Well that was really two-fold," he laughed, "I was helping my teammate by keeping you close by, and helping you to actually show up to work on time from now on."
