Chapter 33
"I see you're at loss for words," He chuckled and got close to me, cupping my face with his hands. "Missed me?"
"Like hell I do," I retorted shakily. "Get the hell away from me,"
"Is that any way to speak to the love of your life?" He asked me, tauntingly.
I couldn't help the way my body reacted every time he's near me. He tried to kill me more than once, especially in my sleep. I wasn't the strongest ninja in the past, so he always had the upper hand. I shouldn't have had to live in fear because of someone who I used to trust with my life.
I took my kunai out and slightly knicked my thigh to snap myself out of the oncoming panic attack.
I quickly pushed him away from me and started backing up to get some distance between us.
"You will never be the love of my life. I have no words to describe just how much hatred I have for you," I retorted, giving him the death stare.
Nothing I said seemed to phase him. He still had that same stupid smug smirk on his expression.
"Your boyfriend isn't here to protect you now, is he?"
"For your information, I can get him to help me anytime I want. I don't need him to "protect" me, I can kill you myself,"
I accidentally started letting my anger get the best of me. That tends to happen with this piece of trash.
Too bad I actually had no way of getting Itachi to help me. I had to face him on my own and I had to keep focused.
"What the hell do you want from me?" I demanded, now moving from my spot.
The moonlight shone down, making his silver eyes look like they were glowing. They stared into my blue ones and I could see nothing but evil in his eyes. He stayed silent.
"Are you ever going to answer me, bastard?" I narrow my eyes.
"Simple," He said. "Because you're my target and I have to capture you,"
Of course.
I rolled my eyes. "Typical. Why don't you come up with something new for a change?"
"I need a strong host for my client. It's my job to bring him hosts and he insists on you,"
"Let me guess, Orochimaru?" I ask.
"Nope," Gin said. "Enough chat. Time for me to turn you in now,"
He lunged for me with a blade and cut my arm. He then tried to grab me once again, but I kicked him away. My fight or flight mode started kicking in.
He slid back and caught himself before he could hit the ground. I then used that split second to my advantage by immediately running towards him with two kunai's in my hand. I used one to cut him in the upper arm and used the other one to stab him in that same wound.
He clutched the wound in pain. He glared at me while ripping the blade out of his arm.
"You will regret that," He stated, throwing the bloody kunai to the ground.
I immediately started weaving signs for a wind release.
"Wind style, gale wolf!"
The wind started to gather in my hand. A wolf made out of wind then came out from the wind that gathered in my hand and I aimed it at Gin. The wolf started to attack him, leaving slashes from its fangs and claws.
I weaved the signs for the mudslide jutsu.
I punched the ground, causing dirt to rise from the ground. Gin immediately fell back on the ground, struggling to get back up.
"Told you I don't need anyone to protect me," I said, still giving him the most hateful look I could.
"Fire style, aerial explosion jutsu!" He suddenly said.
Gas started releasing in the air and he used another fire release to ignite the gas, making it expand. Wind started blowing around us and the gas finally shot out, hitting me. I grunted in pain and saw a burn on my thigh.
The amount of force ended up making me fall back on the ground.
"You better take that statement back. Without Itachi Uchiha, you're weak. You have no advantage over me," He taunted.
I saw heat surrounding his right hand, resembling a flame. He threw a punch at me, but I managed to move to the side just in time. The rock that was next to me shattered.
"No matter how many times you train, you will never be strong enough to fight back. You only got lucky that last time because he was there," He continued.
He was doing it again. When our relationship turned toxic before the murder attempt, he used to belittle me like this. It used to affect me every single time he would do it. He especially did it during his attempts to kill me, knowing what it would do to me.
I stayed silent.
He started walking towards me, thinking that he won, like the arrogant asshole he is.
"Don't worry," He said with fake sympathy. "It was only a matter of time,"
When he grabbed my arm to pull me up, I managed to substitute myself with the log nearby in time and he was thrown off guard now. I used that opportunity to tackle him down to the ground from behind and I had two kunai's in my hand again, one against his neck and the other against his head.
"You should really learn when to shut the hell up," I smirked. "I knew you would fall for my fake shock,"
"You cunning bi-"
I cut him off by pressing the kunai further into his neck. "Keep talking down to me and see what happens,"
He stayed silent for a few seconds and then spoke again. "So, what are you gonna do now? Kill me?"
I had the upper hand here. What was I going to do? I didn't think this far ahead.
He started snickering at me. "You didn't have a plan, did you? You got lucky here, but now I'm going to finish what I started,"
I felt myself getting angry again.
"You will never be as strong as your family. You will always be the weakest one. You couldn't even manage to kill me to defend your life," He continued laughing.
I felt him starting to move and that's when my anger started stirring up again. He always knew how to get me angry. That's when I decided I would finally take his life. After all, he's been trying to do it to me all these years.
I started pressing the kunai further into the back of his neck and started piercing his skin.
"Kasumi, stop!" I heard someone yell.
I turned around and I saw Asuma.
"Asuma?"
"Don't stoop to his level," He said, running towards me. He looked a bit scared and alarmed.
I was always known for having a temper. People used to make jokes that Kushina Uzumaki was my real mother because she had a worse temper than I did.
"You don't need to kill him. You need to weaken him so you can take him in and let the ANBU take care of the rest," He said, trying to snap me out of my rage.
"Asuma Sarutobi," Gin said.
Asuma looked over at him and then stood next to me protectively.
"After all these years, you still continue to harass my little sister," Asuma said calmly.
He wasn't like me. He was always more level-headed than I was. He knew how to handle a tough situation better than I did. I was the one who would rush into things and would lose my cool if anyone said anything that provoked me.
He was always the one who was able to stop the arguments with our mother from escalating.
"And I will continue until she's dead, Sarutobi," Gin retorted, still apprehended by me.
Asuma knew he was just trying to get under his skin and ignored him, turning to me. "I already summoned the ANBU. They're on their way,"
I nodded.
"What is that you want with her?" Asuma asked, now turning back to Gin.
"I don't have to tell you anything," Gin retorts.
"I think you should because the Interrogation Force won't ask you as nicely as I did,"
Gin stayed silent. I couldn't see his face, but I knew he was probably pretty mad.
"Interrogation Force it is," I smirk. "Before the ANBU comes to take you into custody, I just have one more thing to do,"
Asuma rose an eyebrow at me.
I put the kunai that was pointed at his head back into my pouch and used my free hand to twist his shoulder in an unnatural angle again. Hearing the crack of his bones made me smirk. He yelled out in pain.
"Now you're not going anywhere," I snickered.
Asuma shook his head at me, muttering something about not listening.
The ANBU surrounded us now and I got up off him and he lied there, eyeing all of us angrily.
They lifted him off the ground, and I could see the pain in his eyes because they didn't care that he had a dislocated shoulder. They poofed away with him and I sighed with relief.
"God, it feels nice knowing that he's gone for good," I said.
"Yeah, it does. I was worried sick when I heard about everything. I figured I should go find you after Mozuku made his report to Lord Hokage from Anko.
"Well, I'm glad you did come for me," I said. "To tell you the truth, I nearly blacked out in anger back there before you showed up. He always knew how to get under my skin. He knows it's worse now after the panic attacks I've suffered from the aftermath,"
Asuma just hugged me and then we left to go report back to our dad. On the way over, I had to wipe the blood from the gash he caused and Asuma had some burn relief gel on him for the burn on my thigh. He also had some healing ointment that Kurenai made and I applied it to my cut. I'm going to have to ask her for some.
We made it to the proctor's lounge and he was already there since I assume Anko called him in.
"Anko!" I exclaimed when I saw her. "Are you alright?!"
She looked injured.
She smiled at me. "Forget about me. I'm just glad you're okay. What happened back there?"
Asuma and I exchanged looks.
"I'll explain later. There's a lot to unpack," I said.
She doesn't know everything that happened with Gin. She only knows that he was exiled. I didn't tell a lot of people what happened, not even Hana. It was hard for me to talk about. They all think that he just broke my heart by dumping me.
Dad dismissed Asuma so we could have a meeting, so he left.
Dad looked relieved that I was okay. I'm guessing he already knows who attacked me.
Anko started explaining to him how Orochimaru got here and went into detail about her fight with him, and then I gave him my report about Gin and how he teamed up with Orochimaru to get in here to attack me again.
Anko looked surprised when she heard this.
Dad also wanted to keep his under wraps so it wouldn't cause any panic in the village.
Anko then explained about a curse mark Orochimaru gave to her and how he activated it. Dad immediately treated it and Anko told him that she thinks Sasuke should be kicked out of the exams since he's suspicious that he's after him.
They had a bit of an argument about it, but Dad just insisted that the exams keep going, so Sasuke never got kicked out.
The genin were still in the Forest of Death, so it wasn't time for Dad to speak to them yet.
One of the proctors walked in and showed us a VHS tape of some Sand ninjas who already made it and how ruthless the red-headed one was. I had a bad feeling about Orochimaru right now and it was starting to worry me.
