°Live each day as if it's your last day❣
~Paige~
Arriving at the location, we found a spot which gave us a great view over the area and where it was difficult for us to be seen.
A red rented car was waiting somewhere in the bush and suddenly its headlights were turned off.
Two men stepped out of the car, spoke for a while and then walked towards the port, leaving the car parked in the bushes.
About seven men were waiting inside in front of the green container which had CN written on its sides in bold italics. Two other men walked around in front of the blue container which had nothing written on it.
There were about twelve men and two shipping containers in all. It seemed like they were about to transfer some goods.
About ten minutes later, they opened one of the containers' door revealing a great number of white boxes, and bags wrapped with duct tape. There were also other goods inside as well which we couldn't quite make out what they were due to the poor lighting.
They started transferring the bags to the green container, leaving the white boxes inside the red container.
Two men kept looking around, inspecting the area.
We couldn't quite identify the man's face, but luckily Dylan had gotten a pair of binoculars. Dylan immediately got the car's and truck's plate numbers and went into the car to write them down.
I noticed two men taking samples from the container and disappearing. Immediately, i turned back to look at the red car but unfortunately, it wasn't there; they had escaped.
How didn't we notice?
Two and a half freaking hours passed, but they still weren't done unloading and loading the goods.
As the hours passed by, nothing new had happened- they were just packing the goods. I couldn't hold it anymore; I was really tired.
"Dylan I want to go home. Please," I said weakly.
"Alright. I think we've gotten everything we need. Let's go," he said getting into the car.
I gathered the stuff we wrote and packed them in my handbag and got into the car after him.
I texted Chloé that I might come late.
We were on our way home when we heard a sound and the car suddenly stopped moving.
"Oh what now?" I said worried. I'm not ready for another drama.
Dylan looked at me and then got down from the car to check.
"Not good," Dylan said dusting off his hands and jeans, "there's a flat tire. We can't make it."
It was was about past midnight; Nothing was open; we were in a small village.
Dylan tried calling his workers but no one answered.
"Great what do we do?" Dylan said pissed, throwing the phone on the seat.
"Let me check Maps if there's anything nearby or something," I said as I took my phone from my bag and started searching.
"There's a strip club, supermarket 24/7, a restaurant which is now closed. Oh oh and a hotel!" I said, reading from my phone.
"It's just around the corner.. a 10 minute walk," I said gathering my things.
Dylan locked his car got his phone and wallet and we walked to the hotel.
"Hello, how can I help you?" The receptionist smiled at Dylan not taking her eyes off him. She was chewing gum and the sound she was making was irritating and vulgar.
She had short blonde hair with a red dyed strand on the side, big brown eyes with tattooed eyebrows. She had a nose piercing too. She was wearing a faint blue shirt that had a huge opening making a lot of cleavage to show which exposes a butterfly tattoo near the strap of her bra.
I couldn't read her name, because the writings on the name tag were too tiny.
"We'd like a suite, largest please," Dylan said.
"They're all the same. Do you want one with a twin bed or a single bed?" she said.
"Twin please," I said, smiling at her.
"Single," Dylan corrected as he winked at me.
I laughed and hit dylan on his muscular hand and said: "Twin please."
She still wouldn't take her eyes off him what the hell!?
"So twin?" She asked looking at Dylan and not me.
ugh!
As if I'm not here.
"Yes twin," I answered dryly.
"Alright three hundred dollars for one night sir," she said, still looking at dylan.
I got out my purse and picked out my visa card and handed it to her.
"Let me!" he said objecting, "and besides she wouldn't want to disappoint me, so she's going to allow me to pay right?" he said smoothly, while he struggled to say her name trying to read it from her name tag.
"Anna!" she said, batting her lashes at him, "And of course."
She returned my card and collected his instead as she quietly giggled several times, looking up at him.
She gave us the keys of the room and finally smiled at me as she gave me the key- not a genuine smile , a fake smile, the 'I-really-dont-like-your-presence' kind of smile.
"Oh and if you need anything, here's my personal phone number, don't hesitate to call," she told Dylan as she slightly tilted her head to the side and smiled.
She wrote down her number on a paper and gave it to him. She flipped her hair backwards giving me a glare and I smiled at her, laughing on the inside.
Cool!
she probably thought I'm some girl Dylan brought to waste time with...
I rolled my eyes and decided to head upstairs before Dylan to the room, which had the number seventeen written on it.
The room looked neat and comfortable. It had cream and red bed sheets. There were two medium sized beds with one toilet, white walls with red and beige furniture. Stunning paintings of the sea were on the walls to contrast with the white walls breaking the simple background and creating an artistic view.
The décor didn't quite grab my attention, it looked banal and a bit plain. Itneeded lots of renovation and it lacked several things.
I removed all the papers we wrote on earlier from my bag and spread them on the bed.
I read each paper one by one trying to find a link between them all.
"Look they said if someone finds out they'll die accidentally," I told Dylan as I picked out the paper which the sentences we heard the other night were written on.
Dylan then joined me and helped me arrange them .
We wrote the car number and planned to go and search for that car and see who rented it on this day.
I called Chloé, but she didn't answer.
I then decided to leave her a groveling message to tell her that I am alive and that she shouldn't worry and should tell Jane not to worry too.
-'With Dylan?' She texts fifteen minutes later.
-'No!' I write back.
-'Liar' she replies.
I smiled as I dropped back my phone and went back to continue helping Dylan with the paper work.
We wrote down everything we heard, and everything we thought would be of help in the future. Combining each set papers together-the ones which had the information we got from the port were put together while the ones of the event the other night were also put together- we got two sets of papers.
We then moved onto the next task, I checked out several renting places that had that particular car while Dylan searched for other things.
••••
I woke up and slowly opened my eyes feeling uncomfortable. I glanced at my surroundings to find paintings on the cream walls staring right back at me.
At first I forgot about yesterday night and had a panic for a moment, but I immediately regained back my memory and remembered what had happened yesterday.
I noticed that I was still wearing my shoes.
I must have slept off yesterday while doing the research, I thought.
I removed the duvet and got off the bed as I glanced over to my left at what I supposedly think was Dylan's bed.
"Dylan?!" I shouted.
Did he leave me here all alone, I thought as I scanned the room for Dylan.
He'd be a jerk if he had left me.
"Good morning sleepy head." The door opened and Dylan came into the room holding several grocery bags.
"I got us toothpaste, brushes and some snacks," he said, dropping the bags on the bed I was sleeping on.
"What time is it?" I searched for my phone.
"You slept off yesteday while we were working so I tucked you in like a little baby," he teased.
Ignoring him, I clicked my phone to check the time.
8:26 A.M
"Shit!" I said panicked as I lowered my hand and locked my phone and looked at a confused Dylan.
"I have a class in less than an hour," I said as I picked a tooth brush from the collection of toothbrushes Dylan had purchased and headed towards the bathroom.
I brushed my teeth hurriedly. I then got my hand bag and my small hair brush while I sprayed perfume.
Yes, I always keep a perfume in my bag and Chloé mocks me because of that.
"Do you have to go?" Dylan asked as he helped me pack my things.
"Yes I have exams next week and this class is important to me. Let's go," I said, quickly gathering our things as Dylan helped along.
Dylan had waken up early and fixed the car at a nearby garage.
••••
"When will your class be done?" He asked while we were in the car on our way.
"It's just a two hour class," I said, looking at my schedule from the phone.
We got to the university just on time. Everyone was just filing into their classes.
I came down from of the car and walked in front of the car to Dylan's window as he rolled down his window.
"See you later Williams," Dylan said from the window and winked.
"You too, yesterday was ...fun. So many firsts." I smiled then walked away.
I had economics class and Mr. parker was going to give us a lesson which is important for the next topic so I had to be here today not only because of that but also because my attendance is 10% of my grade.
I would need that cause I've already been absent for two days and I have to make up for these days to still get a high grade.
I texted the driver to come and get me at 1 P.M.
After my classs, I went outside towards a bench under the shade of a tree where I usually sit to relax or read a book.
I saw a bunch of people gathering- they were mostly girls. I couldn't exactly see what they were doing.
Everyone was gathering around the car which I noticed was matte black from the little spaces between the people.
"Paige!" A voice shouted from a mile waving at me, grabbing my attention. It sounded like Dylan's voice.
Of course the girls were taking his number, it's like being friends with Justin Beiber.
I don't blame the girls though; Dylan should be the one to blame for having such good looks and charisma.
-"Are they dating?"
-"Of course it had to be her."
-"He's so dreamy!"
-"She's very lucky!"
-"He's lucky too I mean everyone would want to date Paige."
-"But she never agreed to date anyone here."
-"Look at how they look at each other!"
-"Look at her, little miss perfect."
-"Shutup."
I heard so many whispers around me as I walked towards Dylan, none of us bothered to do or say anything, we didn't care.
I got used to all these gossip over the years.
"There was no longer a need for you to come I called the driver," I told Dylan.
"It's okay I'm here now."
"Bye ladies!" Dylan told all those girls and they all waved back excitedly.
I rolled my eyes at the scene in front of me.
-"Bye don't forget to call me."
-"Me too!"
-"See you!"
-"Oh Paige did you have to come now?!"
-"Always come."
"He will!" I shouted at them before I got into the car.
I looked at Dylan and shook my head as I gave him an amused smile.
"They love me. I mean who wouldn't?" he boasted, smirking at me.
"I'm Dylan Sparks," he then said with his signature move done and I laughed at him, rolling my eyes.
"As if you needed a boost."
"So where do you want to go?" he asked.
"Home," I muttered.
"Oh, you're no fun!" he chirped.
"I want to shower and change my clothes. Look at you. You got dressed, showered and even switched cars... I want that too," I said, poking him then pouting.
"Oh you want me?" he teased.
"You wish," I answered, laughing
"Alright then, buckle up," he said.
He shifted the gear from park to drive and stepped on the gas pedal.
I called the driver and told him to go back home.
I went into the house and saw Chloé holding her bag and her car keys, she probably was heading out.
"Hi Chloe!" I said, rushing to shower.
"Hi. Where were you? I don't know what you've done or what Dylan has done to the old Paige," Chloé said, putting her hands on her waist.
"Same old me. Just more... active maybe? I don't know."
"More dangerous.. taking fatal risks. Paige when have you ever left without notice? When have you slept in an hotel with a guy?" Chloé aaked, giving me a quizzical look.
She seemed concerned, but there was nothing to worry about.
"Dylan brings out the best and worst in you. Let's just hope the worst doesn't outweigh the good," She said, "what if you get hurt?"
"Dylan would never hurt me," I said with a low voice.
"What if you guys did something that would put your lives at risk?" She suggested another reason.
-True.
I couldn't say anything because I knew she was right. We're not there yet but we might as well be, but it won't be that bad would it?
Chloé had an interview with a fashion agency so she had to leave.
I studied for an hour and then showered. I left my hair in its natural form - wavy.
Chloé came back with a triumphant smile holding some files papers in her hand.
"Paige I'm travelling after a month to Paris for an internship," she excitedly said.
"Oh Chloé I'm so happy for you! That's good and bad news all at the same time," I said, excitedly as I hugged her.
"Me too. This is an opportunity of a lifetime... The fashion show is closer than ever," Chloé said smiling.
Chloé and I have always wanted to host a fashion show together. Chloé has always had the gift of designing. Whenever we were bored I'd find Chloé drawing dresses and outfits. Drawing has been one of her best talents, especially drawing dresses.
I usually helped her with designing, but I never do draw-I don't find it my thing.
She'd start with the base and I'd help her with finishing the outfit; I say what I think would look better-depending on the theme or style of the outfit- visualizing the outfit as I spoke she'd draw and make additional changes as I spoke. We'd then accessorize the look together before we add it to the rest of the collection in the file.
Combining my taste and style with her drawing and fashion skills, we decided to host a fashion show in the future. We were kids by then and made a promise that could be fulfilled because why not.
We then went to café Lalo to have some desserts, to celebrate the good news then got back home.
