"Look around you!" The Colonel yelled. "These men are your bothers, your only friends. Learn to trust them and be trusted by them. They are your key to survival here in Vietnam."
I looked around me at the men. Most of them were tall and muscular. I felt insecure with my tiny biceps and scrawny features.
"You will go straight to the dining hall and from there you will be told what to do next. Fall out!" The Colonel commanded.
We all loosened up and marched in a line towards the Dining hall.
I couldn't believe I was here. I was drafted into Vietnam. I didn't want to be here, I didn't belong here. Only three days prior to my draft I had taken part in a peace demonstration! How could I be in the midst of what I hated most? War!
I had no answer; Only that now that I was here I would have to serve my term.
I dreaded the thought. I would have to kill. Could I kill? It was kill or be killed. Would I give my life to uphold Peace? Again, I had no answer.
Who do you think this is?
Comment your answer. ;)
