Chapter 7

My grandma finally decided she likes me enough to get me a jade necklace

~~

We went through so many things but I was finally seeing my Mama. My dad was gonna come with me but I didn't want him to, so he let me go alone while he waited outside.

I sat in the chair opposite of my mom while I started crying. A piece of glass separated us and I picked up the phone on the wall as she did.

"Mama, I miss you," I sobbed.

"I missed you too, baby," she said.

"The monsters took me away," I said. "It was so scary, Mama, I was so scared."

"I'm sure you were, sweetheart," she said.

"But why couldn't we have gone outside and stuff when I was living with you?" I asked. "Stuff out there is so cool."

"It's dangerous, Gee," she said. "There's monsters out there. Haven't you seen them?"

I nodded my head. "There's a lot. I had a tutor and she was a monster. She did naughty stuff with me and then got upset because I told Frankie and bringed something called a gun to school and she hurt people."

"She raped you then shot up a school?!" She exclaimed.

"But it's okay, my boyfriend kept me safe," I stated.

"You have a boyfriend?" She asked and she sounded upset.

"Yeah, he's so nice," I said. "He's pretty too, he loves me so much. His name's Frank."

"You can't date," she denied. "You're my little baby."

"But I love him," I said. "He's my soulmate."

"You're not gonna keep dating him," she stated.

"But he's so perfect," I said. "Except he died two months ago."

"How'd he die?" She asked.

"He was in a car accident," I said. "They said he was doing weed so he crashed."

"He's a drug user?" She asked. "So he's bad."

"No, it was an accident," I said.

"If he was driving while smoking weed then it's his fault," she said.

"But he was only driving me home," I defended.

"You were in the car with him?!" She shrieked.

"Inmate," one of the police men scolded.

"But I wasn't in there when he crashed," I said. "But it's okay now because he still comes to see me. He's an angel now. He's always there to give me kisses and cuddles when I'm sad."

"Oh god, what have they done to you out there?" My mom muttered.

"Dad asks the same thing about you," I said. "The kids at school too. They pick on me because they say I'm weird. But I don't think I'm weird because Frankie says I'm perfect. A-and they have to put me into special classes at school because I'm not smart enough to be with the big kids.

"But I also made so many new friends. I have my brother and he's the nicest brother ever. And his boyfriend Pete is my friend too. And Pete used to be a girl but he wasn't supposed to so he's a boy now and now he's happy. And I'm also friends with Frank's friends and they're so nice to me. They all have tattoos and I think they're so pretty but they're scary to get them. I think I like Ray the most, he's so nice. And my friend Jamia from work too, she's nice."

My mom listened to everything I had to say, her lips pursed into a thin line.

"Ooh, and I watch this thing now called Hello Kitty and I love it so much," I said. "And I really like ice cream and mac and cheese. Also, Frank's mom and grandpa are so nice. And I work at a music place and I have a friend there and she taught me my ABCs and how to count money."

"Where's Dee?" She asked.

"I put her in with Frankie in his weird bed thing when they buried him in the ground," I said.

"You gave her away to rot with your shitty boyfriend?" She asked.

"No, Mama," I denied. "I love him and I wanted him to have it."

"Okay, just listen, Gerard," she said quietly, looking around. "I found a way to get out."

I gasped. "Really?!"

"Quiet," she hissed and I nodded. "I'm going to get out of here and then we're going to run away together."

I nodded my head excitedly.

"Where we gonna go?" I asked.

"We're gonna find a new home where we can live together," she said.

"When?" I asked.

"In just a little bit, okay?" She asked and I nodded. "Do you still live in the house with your dad?"

I nodded my head and she smiled.

"I'll come to get you then when I get out of here," she said. "I have to go now, visit me next week, baby?"

I nodded my head, pressing my hand against the glass.

"I love you, Mama," I said.

"I love you too, baby," she said.

My mom hung up the phone and I cried quietly as she left. I walked out to where my dad was waiting and he wrapped his arms around me.

"I missed her so much," I cried.

He kissed the top of my head before we walked off to the car.

"Let's get some ice cream," he suggested.

I shook my head. "I just wanna go home."

I curled up into a little ball as I stared out the window the entire time. As soon as we got home, I hurried upstairs to my bedroom. I grabbed my suitcase, filling it with clothes and toys.

"What are you doing?" frank asked.

"I have to be ready for when my Mama comes to get me," I said.

"No, baby, you can't leave with her," he said.

"Why not?" I asked, sitting on my rug.

Frank sighed, kneeling down in front of me.

"It's because your dad will miss you, everyone will miss you," he said, reaching forward to hold both my hands. "And your mom will take you away again and you won't be able to see your friends or family anymore."

"B-but maybe not," I said.

"Princess, you know I love you with all my heart," Frank said. "I just want to keep you safe. Don't you trust me, baby?"

"More than anything," I said.

"Then let's unpack all this, okay?" He asked.

My lip quivered as I watched him unzip the suitcase. He folded my clothes, putting them away.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because I'm keeping you safe, baby," Frank said, giving me a soft kiss.

I scowled as he finished unpacking all my things.

"Daddy?" I asked.

"What's up, princess?" he asked, putting one of my toys back on the shelf.

"Why did you have to do it?" I asked.

"Do what?" Frank asked, sitting next to me.

"Why'd you have to do weed while driving?" I asked. "Why'd you have to get yourself died?"

"I didn't mean to, baby, you know I would never leave you," he said. "It was an accident. If I knew I was that bad then I never wouldn't driven, I thought I was fine."

My eyes watered as I looked down.

"I was angry at you for a little while," I said. "I'm sorry."

"Baby, it's okay, I'd be angry at me too," Frank said. "But I'd be even more upset if you were in the car with me and got hurt too."

"Would I died too?" I asked.

"I don't know, baby, probably not," he said. "The airbag was working on the passenger side. And the car hit the driver's side too. You'd thankfully maybe only have a broken bone."

"You can break bones?" I asked. "Daddy, that sounds like it hurts."

"It does but it can be fixed," he said.

"Fix bones?" I asked.

"Yeah, they have this thing called a cast," Frank said. "It's this sort of hard thing that wraps around you body and stays on for awhile and fixes you."

"I like it when you learn things to me," I said.

"When I teach things to you," Frank corrected.

"When you teach things," I said. "I like learning from you the most, you're so nice and fun."

"Well, maybe I'll teach you more stuff later," he said. "Come on, let's go get you a shower."

I nodded as we went down the hall to the bathroom. He turned on the shower, helping me get undressed as we stepped in. I gasped when I looked at him, dressed in a full suit in the shower.

"Daddy, you're gonna get all wet!" I exclaimed.

That's when I noticed he wasn't getting wet at all. In fact, the water coming down from the showerhead just went right through him. I frowned, my hand gently resting on his chest. I could feel him but it was like he wasn't there because of the water going through him.

"Daddy, are you real?" I whispered.

"Baby, why would you even ask that?" Frank asked with a small chuckle.

He picked up the soap and I smiled as he cleaned me off. Oh, that was such a silly question. Silly questions are so funny. Of course daddy was real. I can hug him and kiss him and talk to him. How could he not be real?

"Daddy, you don't have to be scared of other people seeing you," I said. "People would love seeing you. 'Specially your mom, she doesn't always show it but she's upset. You should let her see you, she could be happy like how you made me happy."

"Baby, we talked about this," Frank said. "Only you get to see me, understand? You can't tell anyone about me."

I nodded my head quickly. He washed the soap off then grabbed the shampoo.

"Are you not allowed into heaven?" I asked.

"Of course I am, I just wanted to stay here with you," he said.

"You're allowed to do that?" I asked.

"Yeah, you are," Frank said.

"Then why can't you go see your mama?" I asked.

"Because I'm only supposed to be here for you," he said. "It was always my job to take care of you and I'm gonna keep doing that."

I nodded as he shut the water off, grabbing a towel to help dry me off. As I was getting dressed, I heard yelling from downstairs. I went down and peeked into the living room.

"Baby boy, come on, let's go upstairs," Frank whispered.

I shook my head, looking in at my dad and Mikey.

"You're fucking seventeen years old!" My dad shouted.

"It was an accident!" Mikey yelled. "Do you think we planned this?! I wasn't wanting a kid in high school!"

Frank grabbed my hand, pulling me upstairs to my bedroom.

"Where's Mikey getting a kid from?" I asked.

Frank sighed, sitting down next to me on the bed.

"You know Pete's transgender, right?" Frank asked and I nodded. "Well, he still has female parts inside of him."

I gave him a blank look.

"Okay, well, people are born as men or women depending on their body parts," Frank said. "And girls have uteruses where the babies are kept until they're born. And Pete has a baby growing inside him."

"From the sexxing?" I asked.

"Yes, baby, from the sexxing," he said and I whimpered, putting a hand on my stomach. "Sweetheart, we told you, you can't have children."

"Why not?" I asked.

"Well, one, you have a dick," Frank stated. "And two, you can't even take care of yourself."

"Mama can raise me and my baby," I said.

"Come on, let's take a nap," Frank said. "You've had too much excitement for one day."

I huffed and nodded, quickly falling asleep with him.
