Episode 3

"Y/N, what do you think of this mask?" Rika, the black haired girl asks as she shoves her phone to your face. You were sitting slightly inwards, facing towards Shin-Ae as you rested your cheek on top of your fist. Your other hand busy on your phone to distract you from the fact your crush is only sitting less than a foot besides you.

You glanced up, an uninterested look in your eye as you saw red mask lined with green fabric on the outside. You nod "For the Hirahara masquerade ball?"

"HearaHari-What?" Shin-Ae asks as her friend, Maya shoots her a dull look.

"Yep! My father works for the company, I hear that there's gonna a lot of celebrities there" Rika exclaims, "Is that true?"

"Yes, it is" You spoke, as you tried to suppress the scoff itching it's way outta your throat. The Hirahara's always throw a large party around this time, the social event of the year, you've heard. You nearly forgotten, but it was fine since you weren't going to show up this year.

"D-Did you meet any celebrities there?" Maya asks, trying to keep the conversation going.

"A few" You answered briefly, clear uninterested about the subject evident on your face. You didn't mean to come off that way but it was hard not too, you just weren't interested in this conversation anymore. You just wanted to turn to Shin-Ae and speak more to her instead.

Shin-Ae fidgeted, she felt incredibly uncomfortable around you. It just didn't feel like she was herself around someone like you who looked so cold all the time. 'Why is she even here? And why'd she throw that drink on that guy. Given, I was gonna do the same thing but...'

Maya and Rika continued trying to chat you up, asking questions about your life and basic stuff like the weather. It looked like they were struggling desperately to get more than a few words as their answer.

Shin-Ae could clearly see her pals were trying to befriend the most popular girl in school. And it was slightly getting on her nerves, through she can see why they'd want to do so. Y/N L/N is undoubtedly pretty, popular with a lot of influence on the student body, and not to mention has a rich background to boot. She was the school's "it" girl, everybody who's anybody would be trying to get on her good side. Since being on her bad side could lead to social suicide, her friends were vicious.

Rumor has it, they have this group chat that's called the "cancelled club" where twelve of the most popular and influential students had accessed to it. They'd talk about gossip, drama and even post pictures of people they'd want to outcast.

There is some truth to that rumor, but instead of it being called the "cancelled club" it was called the "I'm so cool room" where the most "popular" people in school would just post stupid jokes from the internet. Or maybe something idiotically funny they thought of and decided to post it on to forever allow you to shame them for.

But even if you wanted to shame somebody, you'd convinced yourself you did it with good intent. Oh what am I kidding? You don't give a shit.

Who does?

Who gives a shit nowadays.

My head hurts so bad I think I should sleep soon. God.

What?

Anyways, besides your clearly skewered morals, lets continue back to the story.

She sighs longingly as she faces the opposite way from you, 'I wonder when the waiter's gonna get here?'

"Hey Y/N! Could you come with us to the party? It's my first year going, and since your family's linked to the company, we thought you've had a lot of experience there!' Rika clasps her hands together, thinking how it was such a good idea.

You felt a little ticked off, wondering why they couldn't just get the hint how you weren't invested in talking back to them. They seem like... just those type of girls you wouldn't really associate with.

As you were opening your mouth to answer a quick and sharp "no", the brunette chirps up.

"Yeah, Me and Shin-Ae are tagging along with Rika too! It'll be so much fun!" She exclaims.

"Wait, What? When was that decided?" Shin-Ae retorts "And where's that gosh darn waiter!?"

...

Shin-Ae... was going?

Now thinking about it this year was a masquerade ball, that means you could probably hide your identity behind a mask and most likely a wig. Plus there's more than a thousand people attending, so what're the chances you'd actually even see a HiraHara? And what are the chances of them recognizing you from those thousands?

"I suppose" You nod again, knowing you might regret it in the future. However you would be damned if you didn't take this open path to becoming Shin-Ae's possible... well, you know what you wanted.

You mentally shook your head, a blush tinting your cheeks. 'Stop it Y/N! Why are you jumping to conclusions!? This is so unlike you!'

[The waiter was actually trying to clean up the mess made behind the table, so that's where she was]

The waiter finally finishes as she goes up to the table, a look of annoyance plastered on her face as she tries her best to crack a smile "Hello girls, my name is (standard Korean name) I'm your server today. If you would, would you like to start off with some drinks—"

And that's your cue to leave.

"Excuse me" You said as you get out the seat, "I'm sorry but I'll have to take my leave"

"Awww, already?"
"Why not eat something before the party?"

"No thanks" You simply said before taking out your wallet, this instantly makes Rika gasped.

"That wallet. It's from B*ttega Veneta" Rika gulps, whispering to her friends.
"I knew I saw that design somewhere"
"Hey can you guys stop spouting random words I don't understand" Shin-Ae deadpans "What's a Balona Baguette?"

"A B*ttega Veneta! It's an uber expensive brand, I heard even the small card cases price for $400 to $1k! But she's holding such a large wallet" Maya explains as Shin-Ae takes a double take at your wallet. A flash of bewilderment in her eyes as her jaw drops upon hearing the price.

'Jesus Christ! Her wallet could probably buy me a month of rent' Shin-Ae thinks in her head. 'Why is God so unfair?! Can't you just get one advantage in life?'

"Here, put this towards the bill. I felt bad seeing you clean up the mess I caused, so keep the change, alright?" You gave the waitress a kind grin and three hundred dollar bills, the server stares up to you like you were some kind of angel. Which you weren't, but the fake mask you put on sure makes you do look like one.

Rika, Maya and Shin-Ae were in a state of shock as you waved back at them. "I'll see you all later tonight, do you all need a ride?"

"Oh no, my dad already booked us a Chauffeur" Rika said proudly "But would you need our numbers? So that we can exchange what time we can meet up"

You glanced over to Shin Ae, who looks sulking in her corner. You have to admit, you already know Shin-Aes number due to an... cough cough... local, cough, um, private investigator, cough, that you might've or might haven't, um, bought their services.

"We'll see each other in due time" You close your eyes, "I'll see you at the party"

"Of course!"
"We'll be waiting"

After you left the restaurant the girls all squealed which you've heard even outside of the establishment. Your eyes narrowed as you looked down at your phone, seeing a single text message that left you with a nasty look on your face.

Don't come.

"Who was that bastard to tell y'all not to go!" Your personal stylist said in an angry voice, his eyes narrowing down at your phone.

"Keanu, how do you keep guessing my passcode?" You said with a flat look in your eye as he continues on installing the full lace wig with one hand while the other was busy going through your text messages.

You sighed, it was Kousuke, that dark haired idiot who would always text you that every year. Every-time he knew you might come to an event or meeting, he'd always tell you to bring a substitute or not show up at all instead. Of course you heeded his every command (to your dismay) but this year was going to have to be different.

But of course you won't show up for them. You've already made it clear that you won't interfere with their lives anymore.

"Honey, it's not my fault that you're predictable" He said before handing your phone back to you "Also, if I were you I'd show up stunting on all of them Hirahiras, why'd you have to pick such a basic dress anyways? I was thinking more diamonds to show off your curves, oh! And a full platinum blonde wig, maybe even silver! Hah! I'd love that"

"I'm trying not to get noticed, not be a disco ball" Your eyes were half lidded as you continued scrolling through your feed. "That's why I need your help, turn me into somebody plain and unnoticeable"

"Oh please, you know you come to the right place princess" Keanu laughs as he puts on the wig cap, brushing through a plain (natural hair color that's not your hair color) wig. "I'll make you look like pre surgery Kylie Jenner"

You couldn't help but let out the small chuckle in your throat. "Hah-"

"Did I, a lowly peasant, just make the Ice Queen laugh?" He pokes you with a rat tail comb.

"Laughing, what's that?" You hid an embarrassed blush coming onto your cheeks as you swatted his comb away.

"Girl, lighten up a little. Smiling once in a while won't hurt you, and I'm not talking about that fake ass smile you flash all the damn time." He said glaring at you through the vanity mirror "You don't have to act so tough all the time, maybe that girl you'd like will like you even better if you just... well, be you"

Your face turned stone cold at that point, your eyebrows dropping down as you closed your eyes.

"Keanu, I'll wire the money to your account after this, would two thousand be enough to accommodate for your services?"

"..." Keanu gives you a sad smile before continuing on "... Of course princess, that's more than enough"

After a while, the silence just eases upon you two, your eyes were half lidded the entire time as you think to yourself.

'Act like myself? I don't even know who I am' Something spoke into your subconscious. 'I'm a bitch in people's eyes but the savior for another, just who am I?'

You have always acted the way others expected you too.
