Chapter 1

(Weekly uploads schedule for right now is currently only on Mondays but it might change to being Monday and another day. Anyways, from now on it is Jimmy looking back to when he was younger and it will build from there.)

Jimmy was excited!

His big brother was about to call him. His calls have been dying down but he promised that he would have time to call tonight. He just needed to figure out how to set up the computer by himself...

Grian pressed a button turning the PC on. The fan in it whirled to life as he typed in the password. Jimmy's feet swung off the side of the chair as he waited for his big brother to turn it on for him to play games.

It booted up and he cheered.

"Thank you Grian!" He thanked, giving him a side hug before going to open up his game. His brother laughed, ruffling his hair.

"No problem!"

Jimmy shook his head. Grian wouldn't be here to turn it on right now. But he would get to see him at least!

He jumped off the office chair, squealing at it rolling slightly. He quickly made his way out of one of the many offices in the palace, slippers patting their way across the floor. Jimmy giggled loudly, arms out in a poor imitation of an airplane. He did this all the time with some of his friends who came to the palace to play.

Now, just to find where his big sister was.

He ran down the halls, sliding past guards who shook their heads in amusement. He waved to them and they would greet him back before he sped away.

And he got to the windows facing the courtyard.

He gasped, seeing that all to familiar pink hair through them. Jimmy climbed up onto one of the benches lining up the hallway, pressing his cheeks against the glass. Lizzie was down in the garden, talking to her friend. Not unusual, she and her friend, Joel, often spent time together. But Jimmy knew something was up.

He had spent time hiding in rose bushes to figure that out.

He sighed, a smile on his face. Lizzie looked happier with Joel than she did at family dinners or when they were having a family night. He was glad that Joel was making her forget about Grian.

Because he didn't knew her real reason why those smiles were forced and the coversations were ackward.

He shrugged, going back to zooming down the hall to his parents' room.

---

Jimmy was on his tippy-toes, knocking on the door quietly. He could hear his parents talking to each other.

He knocked again and again but it didn't open.

He grunted. He wanted to see Grian on the computer but he didn't know how!

He crossed his arms and slid to the floor against the door. He would just wait here until they would turn it on for him.

Jimmy's eyes closed. He was tired and it was getting late. He wanted to see his brother before he went to bed though.

His eyes snapped to the door when there started to be yelling on the other side.

"-He is our son! We have to respect his wishes!" His father urged, voice in desperation.

"Absolutely not! He is the next heir to the throne! I will not have him acting like some idiotic commoner!" His mother refuted, scoffing.

"Let him have a life! God knows what I would do if I would have!"

"Like what? This throne is important! This empire is one of the strongest in the lands!" Jimmy figured that they were talking about Grian. He must have talked to them recently.

"Maybe I wouldn't have married you for starters!" Jimmy's eyes widened in shock at that. He could hear a gasp from inside the room. And then it was silence.

Tears welled up in his eyes.

Were his parents unhappy? Did he do something to cause this? His brother was perfect, he couldn't have started this. Jimmy must have done something wrong.

".... look, I'm sorry-"

"No, you are right." Jimmy could hear them talking quietly now. His ear was pressed to the door. "I think it would be best for us to seperate."

The tears finally rolled down his cheeks.

He understood the terminology. He had heard it many times when walking down in the village with his family. Mothers and fathers get divorced when they are unhappy with each other. Children get separated from their siblings and it overall sucks.

He could never imagine his parents going through this.

Jimmy scrambled away from the door when footsteps came near. He ran down the hall to his room, shutting the door quietly. He hid in his pillow fort, crying when the reality sunk in. He didn't want this to happen. He needed his family all together.

Not separated.

Not apart.

Together.
