Prologue

~Flashback Memory~

Gadget's POV ⚙️

I sighed a little after breathing in the air as I stared at the buildings that were destroyed or either fell into ruin before the war started, fighting and taking back what was ours.

Our homes and cities.

Everything was at peace now, but Sonic and the rest of us knew that Eggman would be back and get his revenge on us for stopping his plans and successfully reaching his ultimate goal.

For the time being, Sonic and everyone else decided to stay here a while longer to help us repair the buildings, clean the city up, and train others how to fight and defend in case we're to ever come across a situation like this again.

Once that's done, they'll be on their way.

As I started to walk around, I suddenly noticed something black and white zip by me along with hearing the sound of gunshots that mostly belongs to the gun Shadow carries around with him sometimes.

When I turned around to see what direction was the gunshots coming from, Shadow went past me as well, heading right in the same direction that I saw the black and white heading.

Then Sonic and everyone else went past me too, following after Shadow.

Knowing that the curiosity was getting to me, I followed after them to find out what's going on and what was that black and white that I just saw zip by me.

Eventually, I caught up to Sonic and the rest of the gang before asking what was all the commotion about.

"It's Infinite! He came to the resistance base and was spying on us!"  Sonic explained. "Apparently, we all thought we defeated him...Lucky for us, Shadow happened to notice and caught him spying."

I raised an eyebrow a little at his explanation.

Infinite? Coming to the resistance base all by himself? Spying on Sonic and the rest of the gang?

Something feels really fishy about this.

And I'm gonna get to the bottom of it and find out right now before Shadow winds up killing him with that gun.

After we caught up to Shadow, he already had Infinite on the ground while holding the gun like he was gonna shoot him at any moment now.

I peeked over before immediately noticing that Infinite looked really terrified.

Surprisingly, there wasn't a single bullet wound on him. Most of his mask, that he wears all the time to cover up his real identity, was badly damaged and cracked.

Even big chunks of the mask was already falling off of him, almost revealing his face a little.

"Any last words before I shoot?" Shadow mentions until I heard a *click!* sound coming from the gun.

Panic-stricken, I jumped in the way to defend Infinite before I stuck my thumb in the gun to prevent Shadow from pulling the trigger.

Or at least just to stop him for a moment.

"Wait! Just hold on a minute!" I say, looking at Shadow directly in the eyes.

"What?" Shadow asked, lowering the gun a little just right after I removed my thumb.

"I noticed something really off about this.

The Infinite we all knew wouldn't know where the resistance base was located at and wouldn't even care to find us.

He would've still been with Eggman.

And all he would've cared about was spreading fear and pain to others.

Shouldn't you at least let Infinite explain everything about why was he at the resistance before jumping to conclusions and deciding on whether or not you should kill him?" I asked, silently hoping that they'd understand what I'm talking about.

Everyone was really quiet for a moment, probably thinking it through about what I just said.

"You're right, Gadge..." Sonic began. "We were jumping to conclusions. We didn't even give him a chance to explain everything and about how and why he came to the resistance."

I sighed a little in relief, glad to hear that they all got the message.

But, by the look in their eyes, I can tell that they still don't trust him.

Then I turned around and extended my hand out, offering Infinite to help him back up to his feet.

Stubborn as always, he smacked my hand away before getting up on his own.

As we were waiting for him to explain everything, I was completely unaware that a small building was about to fall over and crash on either me or Infinite.

Because at that moment, I heard a *creak!* sound before turning over to the direction to where I heard it, as the building suddenly toppled over and began falling in my direction.

I screamed a little in fear as everyone noticed what was going on before quickly moving out of the way.

I was too scared to move and before I knew it, I heard Infinite say, "Don't just stand there! Run, you idiot!!!" before leaping in and shoving me out of the way as the building crashed down on him.

Everyone, including me, was frozen in shock as we stared at the very spot that Infinite was at when he shoved me out of the way.

"I-Infinite..." I went, still frozen in shock.

Then tears began appearing in my eyes before running down to the sides of my face as I got up and hurried over to the building before moving the rubble out of the way, trying to get Infinite out of there.

"Infinite!" I said again, before I couldn't remain calm anymore.

I began to flip out and started hurling the rubble left and right, no longer caring about being gentle or who I hit the rubble with while hurling them.

Sonic and everyone else apparently understood how I felt and upset I was, because they offered to lend me a hand and help me get Infinite out.

After a few minutes had passed, we finally found Infinite.

He was gravely injured and unconscious but like as if luck was with him, he was still alive.

But, we all grew shocked again as soon as we noticed that the mask was completely off of his face, revealing his entire identity to us.

I didn't know what to do or say, so instead, I pulled him into a tight hug, feeling relieved and happy that he's okay, not caring about the blood getting on me either.

"You guys should go on ahead and return back to the resistance base, I'll get Infinite to the hospital and have his injuries taken care of.

We can ask him for an explanation later once he's fully recovered and has gained consciousness." I began as I stood up, carrying him bridal style.

Everyone else nodded and murmured in agreement before they started to leave and resume what they were doing before Infinite came along out of nowhere.

As I started heading my way to the hospital, I looked over at Infinite's unconscious figure and blushed a little bit, thinking how cute he actually looked without the mask on.

"I hope you'll be okay, Infinite..." I said to myself before arriving and entering into the hospital.

Unfortunately it wasn't until a few minutes later that I left the hospital, furious at the doctors, while Infinite was still in my arms and with his injuries yet left untreated.

I decided to head home and treat the injuries over there myself, since no one didn't even bother or wanted to help.

I sighed a little after calming down, before looking over at Infinite again and started smiling a bit.

Then I said these words that I wouldn't forget as we were a few blocks away to arriving at my house:
