22: A Proposal of Your Own

"Did it... work?" You panted, fully engulfed in Satan's wing while he laid down.

"I am entirely unsure, YN. Perhaps I could check with Jenny." He looked you in the eyes.

"I still... I still feel so empty..." You sighed. "Can we just... Can we go back?"

"You cannot possibly feel empty when you are so full of my se--"

"Please?"

Less than a click and you were back in the cavern with Cerberus greeting you excitedly.

"Don't you have any furniture? A bed? Chair? Kitchen at all?" You asked tiredly. "A water source?"

"Oh. I suppose you do need to eat. There's... not much food left besides the pom-er-granates. You'll have to make do with that. As for water... As for furniture... No, no, I do not have any of that. But I may be able to fashion something of a bed out of stone. You can sleep in my wings." He was being honest, feeling something reminiscent of guilt for not having what you wanted.

You sighed as you sat on the ground, petting Cerberus.

"No, I shall simply sleep with Cerberus. Could you please bring me a pom-e-granate? I am so hungry." You mentioned blandly.

Lucifer frowned. He felt jealous of the dog demon. He couldn't get enough of your affection.

"Sir." Jenny popped back in.

"What is it, Jenny?" He had an annoyed look on his face.

"The demons await you." She reminded him calmly. "Are you ready now?"

"Fine." He scowled and turned back to you. "Jenny will bring you pom-er-granates. I shall return as quickly as I can." He touched your back, causing you to flinch.

As your fingers drifted through Cerberus' fur, sleep overtook your brain. But the sleep wasn't exactly pleasant. You had dreams of your family, scolding you for giving Hades your name.

"We warned you! You're so insolent!" One auntie cried.

"Now your husband won't have you!" Another screeched

"You're better off alone! You never think!" The third practically shrieked.

They were taking turns insulting you, as you sat there and took it.

"And now pregnant! Out of wedlock!"

"A disgrace!"

"Fix it!"

You woke up with a start only to find Satan sitting next to you, covered in pomegranate juice, with a handful of arils. As you sat up suddenly, Lucifer looked up at you.

"Yes, Persephone?" The words fell from his lips. "YN. My apologies."

"Can we get married?" The words fell your your lips.

Satan was shocked. He hadn't expected such a proposal. In fact, he had already slated himself for months of proving his love and devotion for you, in order to keep you close.

"Marriage is more of a... God thing... But I will happily emulate a ceremony of such for you. I did learn something of human marriage during our meetings. Could I ask why?"

"I just... I don't want to have a baby out of wedlock." You blushed and pulled your knees close. "My family would not approve. Neither would God."

"God is rather unmerciful towards demons. I am sure he would not care to sanctify a marriage between us. But if it is for the memory of your family, then I shall have no problem manufacturing such a celebration."

You looked at the funny looking god, who was splattered in what looked like blood but what you knew was pomegranate juice. He seemed quite harmless. He seemed like a decent husband.
