Chapter 26
Wonderland
Alicia and Peter landed on a yellow brick path. Alicia was beyond joyful they had stopped flying.
Flying just wasn't for her. Her stomach churned with uneasiness and all she wanted was to throw her insides out.
Her face turned an unnatural shade of green before she ran to the nearest bush and puked. As she emptied her insides, Pan scrunched his nose before approaching her. With a delicate hand, he gathered the princess's hair and held it back as she continued to barf.
When she finally finished, Alicia groaned loudly. With magic, Peter handed her a clean small towel to clean herself off. Alicia frowned when she looked down at her now damp clothes.
"I smell like puke," she whined. Peter stood back and looked her over. Quickly again with magic, he gave her a new set of clean clothes. Dressing her in typical common folk clothing, she now wore a peasant dress and a hooded cloaked. Her feet were in nice tied boots and she admired her pretty green dress.
"Thank you for the dress. Although, blue is more my color," she commented. Peter chuckled before handing her a woven basket. Ali peeked into the basket to find some food and treats.
She happily pulled out an apple and began to eat it. Peter threw on his own hood and grabbed Alicia's hand. Without a warning or reason, he took off the cuff that had been blocking Alicia's magical flow. Ali's eyes widened as Pan tossed the cuff into the basket. She continued to stare at Pan but all he did was avoid her eyes.
"Try anything funny and we turn around and go straight back home," he threatened. Alicia nodded and Pan slipped his hand into hers.
"Come on, we should get moving," he said with a small tug. They walked down the path, Peter still holding onto Ali.
Now Alicia had heard plenty of Wonderland. Books always wrote about Wonderland being an usual and strange place. And it was proven very quickly when the two came upon a huge mushroom. On top, a green and purple caterpillar sat on it. He smoked a red hooka pipe and lazily lounged. His eyes finally caught sight of the two strangers and he sat upright. He blew out smoke towards them, making smoke rings in the process. Alicia coughed.
"Who... Are... You?" With every word he said, a ring of smoke hit Alicia and Peter's faces. Alicia continued to cough and Peter yanked the princess away from the smoke. With a sour scoff, Peter pulled Alicia along the brick road.
"I hate Wonderland," he mumbled as the two ignored the creature and headed towards the shiny glooming castle in the distance.
Alicia wondered who they were going to meet.
~
"Are we there yet?" She complained for the fifth time. Alicia was beginning to grow tired and all she really wanted was to sit and sleep forever. Pan was prepared and grabbed some candy out of the basket he had provided her with.
"Eat this," he commanded and shoved it into her hands. Alicia groaned and shook her head.
"I don't want it."
Peter rolled his eyes and huffed. He was growing tired of her complaints. Her whines lagged her behind and she kept dragging her feet. Peter stopped and sharply turned around causing Ali to smack straight onto him. She squeaked and her nose accidentally scrunched upon his chest. She looked up to meet his eyes and Ali found Peter glaring down at her.
"Alicia Knights, I would appreciate it if you would shut your trap for at least twenty seconds!" Pan snapped. Alicia stuck her tongue out at him but remained silent for the rest of the walk.
Eventually, the two came upon the entrance to a humongous maze. Peter pulled Alicia closer to him and pointed to the walls.
"Stay away from the walls. They are laced with powerful magic and will suck you in," he explained and threw a stick at the green walls. Ali watched as the stick was consumed by the magical walls and the stick was demolished into pieces.
"What a nice party trick. But I don't move for a wall. The walls move for me," Alicia snapped.
Using a trick she learned from Regina, the young girl conjured up a fireball with her magic. With all the force she could gather, she hurled her magic towards the walls. The fireball burned straight through the walls, creating a safe path for the two. Peter smirked at Alicia.
"Well, that's one way to do it," he said and Alicia smiled smugly. Together they began to travel through the path. Alicia hummed as they arrived at a gate with a guard standing firm. The guard aimed their weapon at them but Peter didn't flinch.
"What do you seek?" The guard asked.
"We wish to speak to the Red Queen," he responded. The guard narrowed his eyes at them but eventually, put down his weapon and allowed them to pass.
"I didn't think you could be so polite. What a nice change," Ali mocked to her companion. Peter snorted.
"We don't want to be on the queen's bad side, do we?"
Alicia and Peter were redirected to an outside throne room. Two guards stood by the throne, each holding a weapon. She gripped onto Peter tightly and took a step closer to him when the Red Queen finally came in.
"Let me do all the talking, princess," Peter whispered to her. Alicia nodded, but her eyes couldn't leave the Red Queen. Her blonde hair was up in a perfect bun with a golden crown gleaming in the sunlight. She wore a red velvet dress that clung to her body and Alicia sighed as she remembered all the dresses she herself had to wear just because she was royalty. The dress change was something she definitely didn't miss ever since staying on Neverland.
The Queen smiled at Peter.
"Peter Pan. Nice to see you again," she said. Respectfully, Peter bowed his head. He tugged on Alicia to follow suit but all Ali did was scoff. She was royalty herself and she immediately recognized the person before her. Alicia was not pleased. Ali crossed her arms and her face turned sour as she decided to ignore both Queen Anastasia and Peter.
Anastasia snapped her fingers, dismissing the guards by her throne. They marched away from the outside throne room. Once they were gone, the queen turned back to Peter.
"What do you want?"
"I need help finding her brother."
Anastasia finally noticed Alicia. And once she did, the queen's face scrunched up instantly.
"You," Anastasia sneered.
"And you," Alicia hissed.
"Idiotic child."
"Blonde bimbo."
"Dirty pirate."
"Old hag."
"Insufferable social climber."
"Ha! Look who's fucking talking! You married your way into the castle, why lie!" Alicia exclaimed and Anastasia glared at her. Peter simply watched their interaction carefully.
"What in the holy hell is going on?"
Alicia scoffed and turned to Pan.
"You didn't tell me we were coming to see this blonde work of mess!" Alicia snapped.
"Stop being rude, she's going to help us," he said. Ali crossed her arms.
"I don't want her help."
"And I don't want to help her," Anastasia retorted back. She was about to walk back into her castle but Peter stopped her.
"Come on, Ana, you owe me one," Peter said. The Queen pouted for a moment before letting out a sigh. She turned back to them with a frown.
"Fine, whatever. What's your brother's name?"
"He goes by the name of Flynn Rider."
Anastasia's eyes slightly widened and she let out a bitter laugh.
"Flynn Rider? He hasn't been seen since yesterday. All I know is that he was going to Oz for an errand. But when you do see him, tell him the date we had planned is canceled. I don't want any of Alicia's DNA near me," the queen said. Ali hissed and Peter rolled his eyes.
"Alright. Thanks anyway."
Peter and Alicia turned to leave.
"Hey! You destroyed my maze," Anastasia screeched. Alicia grinned widely and stuck her tongue out at the queen. The two were about to start fighting again but Peter quickly intervened.
"We'll fix it," Pan said. He said his thanks and the two left after fixing the maze walls.
"So, are we going to go to Oz then?" Alicia asked him.
"No. He's bound to come back soon and when he does, we'll be here. We're not about to chase him through every realm," Peter said. Ali handed him some fruit and again, they headed off, continuing down the yellow brick road.
"So where are we going?" Alicia asked as she hopped after Pan. He stopped to help her climb over a fallen tree and looked at her.
"We're going to stay with one of my old friends."
"And who is this friend, might I ask?"
Peter hummed.
"They call him the Mad Hatter."
~
Alicia felt as if they had been walking forever. She tried her hardest not to complain but it was proving to be harder than she thought. Alicia heard her stomach now rumbling. She whined and began to dig through her basket but found it empty of sweets and fruits. She sighed and peered at Pan up ahead of her. Ali wanted to speak but didn't want to bother him again.
But Peter sensed the discomfort of his companion and glanced back. He waited for her to catch up.
"Come on, love, we're almost there. I'm sure the Hatter has some tea and bread. Or we could buy some fruit at the next village," he whispered to her and Alicia nodded. She pushed her hair back and frowned at how tangled it was.
"Peter-"
"Do you need a hairbrush?" Peter cut her off.
"Yes, please."
He used magic to pull a brush out of thin air and handed it to her. She brushed her hair as they continued to walk.
They finally arrived at a village. Alicia stuck close to Peter. A lot of people swarmed about, doing their everyday thing. Alicia quickly placed the hood of her cloak back on.
"Do you want some apples?" Peter asked as he gestured towards the fruit stands. Alicia nodded and he pulled out a brown sack filled with gold coins.
"Can I take a break? My feet are dying, " she whined. Peter waved her away carelessly as he went towards the fruit market. Alicia took it as a yes and walked to the nearest bench she could find. She let out a soft sigh of relief once she was able to let her feet relax.
The hot sun was beating down on her and with no other choice than to suffer, she had to let her hood fall back. Her loose black hair fell back as she untied the strings to her cloak. She removed it and tucked it into her basket.
After sitting there and watching everyone pass by for about ten minutes, Alicia began to wonder where Pan had gone.
It can't be that hard to buy fruit, she thought to herself, even he isn't that stupid.
Just as she was about to search for Peter, a boy around her age stopped her. He grinned brightly at her, but her unimpressed face made his smile disappear as quickly as it came.
"Hello there," he finally spoke. Alicia could immediately tell this boy wasn't used to someone saying no to him. His cocky manner and snarky smile told her everything she needed to know and she knew to stay away.
Alicia looked him up and down once and she let out a hard scoff. Flipping her hair, she turned away from the boy with intentions to walk away. The bewildered boy caught up to her fast.
"Hey wait! What's your name?" He asked as he joined her. Ali did her best to ignore him but the boy still didn't get the clue. When she didn't respond, he spoke instead.
"I'm Robert. It's a pleasure to meet such a pretty girl. You're beautiful enough to be a princess," he flirted. Alicia again scoffed. If this was the material he said to all the other ladies, she could tell why he was single.
"Do you wanna go get a drink with me?" He asked suddenly and it was at the moment Alicia lost her patience. She turned to stare the boy down with the best glare she could conjure and gripped her basket tightly.
"You really must be dense if you can't tell that I don't like you. Now run along, boy, and go play with the pigs. You'll fit in perfectly with them," she snapped. Alicia walked away or at least tried to before the boy got up in her face again. And this time he didn't look that happy.
"What did you just say?!"
"Oh my mistake, forgive me for what I said... My comment was insulting to the pigs. Unlike you, they are actually cute,"
Alicia hissed. Her feet began to move once again and she headed towards the fruit stands.
"What a bitch."
And it was that sentence that Robert would very soon come to regret.
~
"I'll take these small cakes too," Peter said to the vendor as he handed him some money in exchange for the treats. He knew Alicia would appreciate the thought of sweets so when he saw a bakery, Pan knew he had to get her something.
Peter was finally heading back to Alicia when he noticed a large crowd gathering outside the fruit market. He raised an eyebrow before glancing over at the bench where he had left the princess. He wasn't surprised to find it empty.
He glanced at the crowd and hoped with all his might that Alicia wasn't in the middle of it.
But his prayers were crushed when he spotted the familiar pattern of her dress. Peter groaned and pushed his way to the crowd.
He found Alicia holding a boy in a headlock while she beat the boy's stomach in.
"I will not take insults from a dimwitted stranger like you! I'll have you know I was raised by an honorable sailor and I can easily snap your head off!" She screeched. Peter shook his head.
He walked into the circle and lifted Alicia up by her torso. He managed to pull Ali off her victim and the boy curled up in a ball of defeat.
"You can't just seem to sit still, can you?" Peter mumbled but Alicia paid no attention as she continued to threaten the boy.
Peter Pan was glad when he was able to pull the princess away from prying eyes and the injured boy before any more damage could be done (although she did manage to get in one more good kick). Pan placed her down on her feet once they were on the outskirts of the town.
"You really are something, you know. I leave you alone for ten minutes and already you are picking fights with the locals! Did Regina not teach you any manners?!" He demanded as he shoved all the treats he had bought her into her hands. Alicia scoffed and although she was secretly pleased with Pan's gesture, she was too blinded by anger to give her gratitude.
"If he wasn't harassing me, he wouldn't have gotten his ass handed to him by a girl!" She snarled before sinking her teeth into a cream puff angrily.
"Next time, try to control your temper!" He scolded back but Alicia only laughed mockingly.
"Ha! You're one to talk! I heard from Felix that you once killed a man over a mango!"
"In my defense, he cut it from my favorite mango tree," Pan grumbled. Alicia huffed. She was about to retort back when a startling laugh came from behind them. Peter immediately hid Alicia behind his body to protect her from any danger, but his tense figure soon relaxed when he recognized the man before them.
"Peter Pan, I didn't know you had a little lady friend. Sure has some fire in her," the man commented. Peter smirked at him.
"Well, you know me; I like fire."
Alicia peeked out from behind Pan's shoulders to find an odd-looking man. He had on a maroon trenchcoat and underneath a bunch of layered, colorful fabric pieces. His wild orange hair stuck out from a purple stitched hat and his pale complexion truly contrasted against him. The man spotted Alicia's gaze and smiled at her.
"Little girl, I see you like to run with demons."
