22. Kitoka's Stickers
Felix's POV
We had flown after Da-hye, Sam, and the little girl, who Deiji later revealed is name Kitoka.
Da-hye took them up really high before dropping them, me and Yeonjun shot down to catch them, but then it all went black.
Yeonjun and I ended up in an alleyway near where we'd last flown over, so wherever Sam and Kitoka were, they couldn't be far.
Where we got left behind couldn't have been much of a coincidence.
We had woke up in confusion, then came to the same conclusion before heading back to the hospital after getting the information on our phones.
"What ?! So he's gone ?! Kitoka too ?!"
Deiji stressed, watching as the scene was investigated.
We were questioned, but we didn't have many answers, we did inform them about the location of where we ended up during our chase.
Every time I closed my eyes I'd get a flashback of Sam's fear filled face.
"He won't let anything happen to Kitoka, that's one thing for certain, but his safety...I'm not so sure we can guarantee it..."
Yeonjun spoke up, looking scared to even say the words.
"The sooner we find them, the better... I just can't believe Da-hye's a part of this, d-did you see his new costume ? I-It's..."
I closed my eyes with a sigh.
"Yeah, I know..."
The scene was cleaned up after questioning and investigating, and then we set off towards our second location.
Where Yeonjun and I had woken up.
The power signature machine went wild when the scene was scanned.
Meaning it wasn't our powers alone at this location.
The power trail was cut off mysteriously towards the end of the alleyway.
We had the other junior heroes join us in our search above the buildings and around the surrounding area, even using the power signature goggles, because the machine moved and scanned slower.
To say the results were strange was an understatement, it looks like we might've hit villain jackpot, and that scared me.
Villains worse than Asani Sam, they didn't play around, always doing the wrong things for the wrong reasons and nothing like Sam, it was disgusting honestly.
Villain names popped into my head, and then I raced over to the scene police were still investigating, racing straight over to Yeonjun.
"We need a list of all villains that haven't gotten captured."
I explained to police, before freezing in my tracks.
There, on the floor at the end of the alley, sat a little kitty sticker, to be precise, it was one fairly familiar sticker I had seen on Kitoka's pretty pastel purple cast I had seen just hours before.
"Fuck! Yeonjun I think I found something! Someone get us some heat signature goggles!"
Yeonjun's head shot up in my direction, and he rushed to catch up to me, seeming to have spotted it too.
One of the police officers got up goggles and we turned it up to the highest strength, because it was still mid-day.
We went through every alleyway near where the police had set up for investigating.
Then when I was passing by a house, there was a kids sat on a broken window frame, the bar that you could slide up and down to close the window being the only thing keeping him up.
I took off my goggles and he waved at me with the biggest grin on his face.
"Hey kid! What's your name ?"
He giggled before sliding out of the window and onto the stairs hanging off the side of the apartment building, jumping off the side and sliding against the railings before flipping off the side and landing on his feet.
"Names Rhyker !"
He told me excitedly, as if he didn't just do something so awesome it took me a second to snap my head in his direction, as I was still looking in a daze at the stairs.
"Well, I've got a question for you Rhyker, how would you like to become a Junior Hero in training ?"
He jumped up and down in excitement.
"B-But I don't have powers."
He pouted, looking up at me confused.
"Who needs powers when it's obvious you can do some awesome parkour, plus...I'm sure they'll kick in with the help of some friends of mine, I can feel the power radiating off of you dude! You're gonna be awesome!"
His eyes sparkled at my words, a giggle slipping past his lips.
"Then yeah! I wanna be a hero!"
I looked at him with a big smile on my face.
"You've gotta ask your parent's bub, can't do anything like this without their permission."
He looked down at the ground with an awkward smile.
"I-I live with my big brother and his boyfriend, they're cooking dinner right now..."
He responded shyly, nodding I reached out my hand to him.
"Come on, I wanna go meet them myself, there's no need to be nervous."
I walked with him to the apartment he just came from, standing on the side.
"How'd you like to fly ? Just point to the window and I'll get us there."
He pointed to the window and I took us up, he let out a squeal, looking down at the ground before looking at me with a grin.
"We're here, so...go get your brother and his boyfriend, I'll wait out here."
I told him, sitting back on the railing, he climb in through the broken window, shouting "I'll be right back.", before running of with a thumbs up.
"Rhyker, this isn't another one of your imaginary friends, right ?"
A voice, I'm assuming his brothers, asked.
I let out a laugh as Rhyker climb out of the window before responding,
"No, I think I'm...uh, pretty real to me..."
I pulled at my suit with a smile, looking up at a two pairs of eyes that widened in shock.
"Y-Your... Rhyker, why's Haengbok on our doorstep ?"
His question made me laugh once again.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you. I'm currently on an investigation at the moment, and I just said hi to your little bro while passing by, he did some really awesome parkour on the way down to introduce himself to me and I have a proposal, I'd like it if he could become a Junior Hero in training."
Rhyker got a smack to the back of the head from his big brother, who later introduced himself as Rylan.
"How many times have I told you how dangerous that is you little menace ?! You could get seriously hurt!"
Rylan turned to me, "A junior hero you say ?"
I nodded, "In training, mostly because the age required to be a junior hero is 18, straight after high school."
He nodded, looking down at Rhyker.
"You wanna do this ?"
Rhyker nodded, a nervous smile on his lips.
"Okay, um... I think I'd feel better if he started training in his freshman year, he's 13, so after this last year, once he turns 14 and enters high school would be best."
I nodded at his words, not wanting to seem like I wasn't listening.
"Can you guarantee that he will be safe, a-and that he'll still do his homework ?, our parents wanted us to graduate, I-I have...I just haven't gone to college, because I'm taking care of him, I want him to be his best, so long as he doesn't do the wrong things, I love him."
He spoke sincerely, tears brimming his eyes.
"He's the only family I have left besides my grandparents, o-our parents died in a crash when he was 4, I've been raising him with my boyfriend and my grandparents, I want to ensure that he is safe at all costs, I can't lose him too."
I nodded, watching as Rhyker hugged his big brother.
"Don't worry, training is done where the person feels safest, we could even do it back here."
I poined to the empty open lot just next to the apartments.
"Plus, homework comes first. If he does his homework while he's in school that's even better, also whenever a junior hero in training is still in school, we usually gain the school's permission to reduce homework."
Rylan nodded.
"Also, if you notice getting sick or see him getting more flushed than usual, call me immediately."
I handed him my phone, opened to the contacts app.
"W-Why, what does that mean ?"
Rylan asked shakily, pulling Rhyker closer.
"It means his powers are presenting, he's got them, I feel them...so it may be a little sooner than later."
Rylan nodded.
"Thank you for your time, sorry for wasting it and I'll be on my way, but first I have a question for Rhyker..."
I bowed to them, Rhyker looking up at me expectantly.
"Did you happen to see Asani Sam and a little girl being pulled through the air earlier today ? They were being pulled by an old friend of mine, he's...uh, taken to the dark side, he was actually a junior hero of mine, but he broke the rules, but you'll learn about those later."
Rhyker shot out of his brothers arms, turning to his brother before saying,
"See, I wasn't goin' crazy! Knew somethin' was wrong !"
My eyes widened and I crouched down his height, grabbing on his shoulders and looking him in the eyes.
"D-Did you see the direction they went?! I'm trying to find them !"
He pointed a few streets down.
"They went that way, the little girl and Asani were passed out though, then another guy came from the street that your old friend was heading and helped him carry them down."
I pulled him into a hug, feeling relief flood my heart.
"Rhyker, you will always be a hero in my eyes, I appreciate you so much, your little hero heart is already awakening, thank you so much!"
I looked up at his brother, pulling away from Rhyker.
"You've raised him well, you're a good big brother, I'm sure your parents would be so proud of you."
Rylan's eyes filled with tears again, and he fell to the floor in tears, his boyfriend Kailo following soon after, worry written on his face.
"Didn't mean to make ya cry, I'll come back and tell you any news I can whenever this is over."
I patted Rylan's head, honestly feeling bad for making him cry, but I think those are happy tears, tears of relief.
