I wake to pounding on the door. I shake Austin and he opens his eyes looking at me. "What's wrong?"

"Can you get the door?" I push him off the bed and he lands with a thud on the hardwood floor.

Austin climbs to his feet and rubs his shoulder. "Why do you need me to get the door?"

"I'm not feeling too good." I kick the blankets aside and I'm covered in sweat.

He touches my forehead. "You're hot. I'll get a cold wash cloth after I tell whoever is at the door to go away." Austin heads to the bedroom door.

"No, don't tell them to go."

Austin walks out the door.

I can't hear what Austin is saying to whoever is at the door.

A couple minutes passes and Austin walks back into the room. "Chase and Nico will be back they are going to get dinner."

"Okay," I whisper and look at the bed. "I was supposed to cook for us. I always make Chase's favourite meals when he visits."

I hear the tap turn on in the bathroom and then feet approach the bed. A cold washcloth is placed over my face.

"Thank you,"

I feel the bed dip as he sits next to me.

He pulls me into his strong arms. "Do you need anything else, Val?"

My mouth feels parched. "Water, please."

Austin leaves me on the bed and I hear the bedroom door open and his feet shuffle along the hardwood floor.

There's a knock on the door.

"Food's here." Chase yells.

I climb off the bed and start moving toward the kitchen. I grab onto the wall as I start to feel dizzy.

Austin runs over to me just in time for me to fall.

Then everything goes black.

Austin

I leave my girl in bed and get her water.

As I get closer to the door someone knocks on it. I shuffle to the door ad open it to see Chase and Dominic standing there with a plastic bag. "What did you get?"

"Chinese," Chase steps into the house and yells. "Food's here."

I look into the wall and watch my girlfriend walk down the hall. She grabs onto the wall and I run over to her. I catch her in time and carry her to the bedroom.

I place her on our bed. "Do you know where Val keeps her thermometer?"

Chase walks into the bathroom and searches the draws. "Try the cupboard above the fridge, Austin."

I walk into the kitchen and search the cupboard. I put the thermometer under her harm and start it. I leave the machine under her armpit until it beeps. '100.1' I look at Nico and Chase. "You can have dinner. Put mine and Val's in the fridge and we'll heat it up later."

Chase and Dominic exit the room and I hear draws open and close as they search for things. I pick up the washcloth from the bed and walk into the bathroom and run it under cold water.

I hear a cough come from the bedroom.

I wipe her face and arms with the cold cloth.

She starts to stir. "Water," she whispers.

I open the bottle and she drinks from it.

"Thank you," she reaches to the chest of draw and picks up a hair tie. She ties her hair into a high ponytail.

"Do you want some dinner?"

She nods. "Can you carry me to the kitchen? I don't want to be rude while Chase and Nico are here."

I carry her into the kitchen.

Chase moves from his seat and collects plates and forks for us. He puts them on the table for Val and I.

I sit next to Val and serve her dinner.

She puts the rice on the fork and lifts it to her mouth and she stops when I keep staring at her. "What?" she asks.

"Nothing, I just love staring at you."

Chase pushes me and I fall on the ground. "What's it with your family pushing me?"

Val laughs. "My families not that bad."

I shake my head. "What about the time I nearly tripped over a ball that was in the backyard in the middle of the night."

Val shakes her head. "That's what happens when we walk through the backyard in the middle of the night after watching the sunset on the lake."

"What night did you go on the lake?"

"Liane's hen's night."

"The night you were nearly..."

Val cuts him off. "... yeah, I don't want to think about that."

Nico frowns. He opens to his mouth to say something and then he closes it, thinking better of it.

After dinner, I wash the plates and leave them in rack to drip dry.

Val turns on the TV and puts a movie on.

I sit on the couch next to her. "Baby, what movie are we watching?"

She smiles. "Fast and Furious six. When I feel like shit a Vin Diesel Marathon is the best way to make me feel better."

I kiss her cheek. "What's your favourite movie he's in?

"Fast and the Furious, the Pacifier and Man on Fire." She lies her head on me and she falls asleep.

After the movie Dominic stands up. "I have to go. Tell Val, I'll see her in the morning." He opens the door and exits the house.

Chase moves towards the spare bedroom and enters the room.

I pick Val up and carry her to the bedroom. I place her on the bed.

I take off my jeans and t-shirt and climb into bed next to her. She moves over to me and place her arms on my chest.

I wrap my arms around her and fall asleep.

During the night I'm woken by the bed shaking and chattering teeth.

Val looks at me. "I'm fr-fre-freezing." She stutters.

I climb out of bed and grab some blankets from inside the cupboard. I wrap the blankets around her.

"How's that, baby."

"Good," she closes her eyes.
