Awaiting You (Chapter 3)
As Seele and Caelus exited Qlipoth Fort, they descended the steps that led to the Central Plaza, in which the two found themselves in silence.
As the two finally reached the bottom of the stairs, they looked at each other, their eyes meeting.
Seele found this moment to be a tender one, but to Caelus, he felt as if it was awkward, with Seele's unintentional stern gaze.
"You mentioned you had some places in mind you wanted to visit?"
Seele spoke up first, her eyes still glued to the amber ones that she adorned.
"Oh, right."
Caelus chuckled awkwardly, before his gaze diverted elsewhere, before his eyes landed on the distant Golden Theater.
"I wanted to go there before, but I didn't have the chance to."
Caelus would say, turning his attention back to Seele.
"Wanna come with?"
Seele found herself blushing slightly at this, her lips curling into a soft smile.
"That's what I'm here for."
Caelus nodded, before beginning to walk towards the theater, in which Seele would walk beside him.
"Do you know what kind of shows they have there?"
Caelus would ask, looking over at Seele, who was already looking at him, strangely enough.
Seele would blink before her eyes widened and she replied hastily.
"Oh, uh, I'm sure there's something playing today. I haven't been, but I've heard they're pretty good."
Caelus nodded, deciding to ignore her sudden nervousness, Seele had always been brash to him, though maybe something changed while he was gone.
The two walked in silence, in which Seele used this time to simply admire the trailblazer.
The way he walked was so firm, tall, and elegant in his own way, he walked as if he held purpose and she admired that. Sometimes she struggled with her purpose, but even though she didn't quite understand who she was now, with the overworld and underworld united once again, Caelus helped give her something else to think about.
She knew she still held value, but with the drop in her workload, she felt as if she wasn't as important as before, even if Wildfire was less busy, dealing with mostly underworld issues now, she still had her things to do.
She wondered what value she held to him, and she accidentally blurted that out.
"Caelus, what am I to you? Am I important to you?"
Caelus looked over at Seele with a small blush and a surprised expression.
"Eh? Well, you're a great friend to me. You assisted me during my time in Belobog before, and even now you continue to help me. I appreciate you, and of course, you're important to me."
Caelus would reply, a strange bashful demeanor to him. Seele must be imagining things, right?
Seele would simply nod in response, swallowing her saliva as she heard herself audibly gulp.
...
Caelus found himself admiring Seele, though the two hadn't spent much time together, he appreciated her presence, she was a great help to him, and he also admired her goals. She was such a selfless person, and he admired that, the way she wanted to build a future for the people of the underworld was something Caelus liked about her, though that was the common interest of Wildfire.
Caelus wanted to talk to her more before, Seele had intrigued him from their first meeting. Originally, he wanted to ask her about her powers, which he still does, but now he wants to ask her about herself, her hobbies, and her peeves.
It was a simple desire at first which he paid no attention to, he simply wanted to know more about one of his good friends, nothing more. Though, now that they're here, walking beside one another, he feels that desire to know more about her flare up once more. Though he figured he should ask later, seeing as they were getting closer and closer to the theater.
As the two began ascending the steps leading to the theater, Caelus saw Seele pull out her credits, which Caelus frowned, instinctively putting a hand forward to stop her.
Seele would see Caelus extend his hand, his fingertips brushing over her hand as she froze.
Caelus would realize what he had done, blushing slightly before retracting his hand quickly.
"It's fine, put your money away, I'll pay for the two of us."
Caelus would say, pulling out his own credits, and showing Seele.
Seele would look at him, still in her surprised state, before slowly nodding, her expression returning to normal.
"O- Oh, that's sweet of you. I- I mean, that's nice of you. Thank you."
Seele wanted to slap herself, seeing as she just sputtered out her reply, sounding like a stuttering and incoherent mess.
Caelus just smiled, nodding before continuing to walk up the steps leading to the Golden Theater.
As the two approached the ticket booth, Caelus purchased two tickets, paying for both of them as he said he would.
He turned around to give Seele her ticket, which she accepted, taking it from his hands, their hands brushing together slightly, causing Seele to turn slightly red before the color flushed from her cheeks as quickly as it appeared.
Caelus noticed this but decided not to say anything. She probably just appreciated the gesture, right?
The two stood there in silence before Caelus motioned for Seele to enter the theater first, which she quickly did, thanking him as she entered.
...
The two took in their surroundings with equally amazed expressions, the Golden Theater had a massive interior, and hundreds of seats, each a red velvet, and the giant stage that sat in front of the room was concealed by a giant red curtain.
"Woah."
The two said in unison, their eyes darting towards each other, the two shared a laugh before finding their seats, which were more in the back, and as others began to crowd into the room, they simply waited.
As silence descended between the two, they each snuck glances at one another, occasionally catching the other, which in turn would make the silence even more unbearable.
"So..."
Caelus would begin, garnering Seele's attention.
"How have you been? Anything interesting happen?"
Caelus would question, looking over at Seele with a strangely attractive gaze.
Seele found herself blushing again, the dim lighting of the theater accompanied by Caelus and his strange seductiveness.
"I've been good."
Seele managed to utter, her voice sounding dazed.
Caelus didn't seem to notice her strange demeanor as before he could reply, the sound of the massive front curtain opening cut him off, revealing a set that seemed to represent a moonlight scenery. A tree, and a bench on set.
The two's attention moved from each other to the play, which they began to pay attention to.
...
The sudden sound of a piano melody echoed throughout the theater, the play began with a girl and a boy walking onto stage from separate sides. The two met in the middle, the boy wore a black suit, tailored to his form as it hugged him nicely, and the girl wore a beautiful, navy blue dress.
The two would sit on the bench next to each other, before the orchestra began playing, harps and other strings being heard in the background, accompanying the piano as the two began to sing.
"The sun is nearly gone."
The boy would begin, his eyes looking up at the set behind them, looking up towards the moon that was placed above them.
The boy would continue singing on the bench, simply sitting there beside the girl before suddenly shooting up from his seat, and standing in front of the girl now.
"Some other girl, or guy, would love this swirling sky."
The boy would sing, motioning towards the purple sky above them.
"But there's only you, and I."
The boy would sing, extending a hand to the girl, who took it and stood up with him.
"And we've got, no shot."
He'd sing, letting go of the girl's hand as soon as she stood up.
"This could never be."
He'd say, looking over at the girl, though his eyes contrasted his words, the longing in them that even Caelus and Seele could see from afar.
"You're not the type for me."
The boy would say, and the girl would sigh.
"And there's not a spark in sight. What a waste of a lovely night."
He'd finish, and the girl would begin to sing.
...
As the play continued Seele and Caelus would watch intently, intrigued by the elements of the play. Romance, but they were both denying it. While Caelus was confused, Seele made her interpretation of the play, seeing that the two are trying to push the agenda of romance to the side, though she could see through the two, the longing in their eyes and through their limited physical contact the two seemed to appreciate it, gentle and calming to the touch with one another.
Seele looked over at Caelus with a soft smile, she found it hard to pay attention to the play, despite how well made it is, and though instruments rang throughout the theater, it all was a blur to her, her expression fixated on Caelus and his features, the way his eyes intently looked over the details of the play, she could tell he was trying to interpret the play for himself.
Caelus would slowly look over at Seele, his eyes wide as he seemed to understand the play.
The two made eye contact, and Seele had yet to realize that she had been caught, too caught up in his features to notice that he had moved, she was in her own world, simply thinking.
Caelus recognized the look in Seele's eyes, realizing that her eyes matched those of the couple in the play, a strange longing behind them as she took in his features.
Caelus shook his head, denying it, and while he did Seele seemed to snap out of her trance, quickly realizing that Caelus was looking in her direction and refocused her attention on the play.
As he focused on her again, she had already turned away, and Caelus swore she was looking at him with that gaze a moment ago. He simply rediverted his attention to the play, his eyes drifting over to Seele slowly.
'I'm imagining things.'
He'd think, mentally sighing as he turned his attention back to the play.
As the two watched the play in silence. They had each interpreted their own versions of the play, and strangely enough, both interpretations had to do with one another. Caelus wondered if Seele felt the same way. While Seele wondered if Caelus felt the same way.
A beautiful standoff, one that was happening without the other even knowing of it.
