how to describe fight scenes

This is something that I have always been notoriously bad at. Writing fight scenes will probably happen in your SciFi book at least once.

The problem with fight scenes is that writers tend to rush through them which makes them sound hurried and doesn't give the reader the whole glory of it all.

Here are some of my tips on how to write fight scenes:

1. imagine it in your head, play out what happens and jot down any ideas you have
2. Make a rough outline of what happens in the fight
3. Understand the importance of the fight and then plan out how long you want to make the fight. If it is the climax of your book I suggest writing at least two chapters about it
4. Remember when you pictured it in your head? Well when writing, try and keep that image in your mind as you describe what is going on.
5. Learn about what weapons you are using and find words to describe them.
6. Explain why there is a fight going on
7. Don't just focus on the action, also go inside of the heads of the people who are fighting and describe some emotions to really bring everything to life.
