THE SUN FILTERING THROUGH THE FLIMSY CURTAIN woke Odette the next morning. A yawn fell from her chapped lips, her back making popping noises as she stretched out her body. It had been years since Odette had slept on an actual bed, and her aching body had forgotten how good it felt. It had almost made her forget where she was and what the world outside was like until her big blue eyes took in her surroundings. Oh, Right. The world had still ended and she was stuck with some bat welding psycho.

"Rigby." Odette's voice was soft as she pulled herself up into a sitting position on the bed. Negan had spoke about finding a job for her to do and she was sure the man would be making an appearance sooner rather than later.

Odette turned her head towards the other bed just across from her once Rigby hadn't answered her yet. Her doe like eyes scanned the bed finding it empty with the book Rigby had fallen asleep with laid open on the haphazardly made bed.

The rapid beating of her heart against her rib cage quickly took over Odette's body as she quickly jump up from the bed and rushed out of the room not caring that she was still in her pajamas. The only thing that mattered right now was finding out where Rigby was.

Her wide blue eyes searched the long hallway, looking for another face. She didn't care who. Hell even Negan's face would be a welcome sight right now. It took a minute but she saw that man with the scars on the side of his face walking down the hall with his shoulders slumped.

Odette quickly walked towards him while trying to remember his name. Negan had said his name the other day, but she had been so caught up with staring at the scars on his face and overcome with emotions of the situation she was in that she had forgotten it.

"I can't find my daughter." Odette spoke in a rush as she stood in front of the scarred man.

Dwight raised an eyebrow at the wide eyed brunette in front of him. He could feel the anxiety rolling off of her body as she bounced up and down on her feet staring at him with her big doe eyes. A scoff left his mouth, shrugging as he scratched at his greasy blond hair.

What did she expect him to do? He wasn't some fucking babysitter.

"Lady, there's a few kids here." Dwight rolled his eyes. "I don't know who your kid is." He stated matter of factly.

Dwight went to step around the anxious brunette but she quickly stepped in front of him, staring at him with her wide blue eyes as though looking into his soul. He didn't like this woman. He didn't understand why Negan wanted her here. Dwight could tell she was naive and weak. It was pointless to keep her around.

"You were the one to take us to our room yesterday. Her name is Rigby, she's got long dark hair, dark brown eyes, and a scar right above her eyebrow." Odette pleaded with the man, rattling off information about Rigby as though he were a police officer helping her look for her missing daughter.

A sigh left Dwight's mouth as he motioned for the frazzled woman to follow him. He could have told her to fuck off and make her look for the child on her own but, he thought about Sherry and how she would be kind enough to help this woman look for her missing daughter.

"She's probably with the other kids." Dwight muttered, trying his best to ease the young woman's nerves.

Odette nodded as she followed behind the man, she had yet to remember his name and he had yet to offer it. Rigby knew better than to run off and she prayed that he was right. She didn't knew where else Rigby would go — especially in a place like this.

The Sanctuary seemed lively and busy Odette noticed as she followed behind the scarred man. A few people looked up from what they were doing to stare at them, some even giving her a small smile before hurrying back to their tasks. Negan had said she would have a job — everyone here had a job, but she wasn't sure what hers would be. He didn't ask what her job was before the world went to shit and she didn't say. It was one of the many rules Ozzy had made when the world first stopped — don't offer any personal information to anyone. People could use it for gain or against you now more than ever.

"There." Dwight pointed as he stopped abruptly causing the brunette to walk into his back. Dwight turned his head, glaring at the woman before pointing towards a group of kids playing on the floor a few feet in front of them. "Your kid is probably over there." He said before walking away without another word.

Odette ignored the man's rudeness and quickly walked towards the group of children playing duck, duck, goose. It felt so odd to see a group of kids playing in the middle of this giant cement building, acting as though there was not a care in the world. Like there weren't dead just outside the walls waiting to tear into them if given the chance.

"Duck, duck— "

The unmistakable sound of Rigby's voice met Odette's ears, relief filled her body as she felt the tension in her shoulders fall away. A few more strides and she was standing outside the circles of kids sitting on the floor with anxious smiles on their faces as the waited with anticipation for Rigby to yell goose.

"Rigby." Odette crossed her arms over her chest as she interrupted the game.

Rigby's raised hand stilled in the air as she turned to look at her mom with a sheepishly look on her face. She wasn't suppose to wander off and she knew that but, there was no walkers inside this place. This place was safe and there were other kids here! It had been so long since she played with anyone else besides Gia, but Gia was a boring teenager and never wanted to play the fun games — even back when the world wasn't dead.

"Hi, mom." Rigby waved at Odette with a small smile on her face. "I made some friends." The smile on her face widened as she motioned towards the circle of kids sitting on the floor now all staring at Odette.

Odette ignored the children's stares. "You're not suppose to wander off." She reminded her daughter with a frown.

They didn't know any of these people and they couldn't trust any of them. They had to stick together and find a way out to find Ozzy and Gia. Odette needed Rigby to realize this place wasn't some fun town.

"I know." Rigby muttered as she walked away from her new friends and towards her mom with a frown on her face.

Rigby knew the rules and she hated them. She hated this new world and the dead that tried to eat them. She wanted things to go back to normal, back to before her mom was always nervous and crying late at night when she thought Rigby was sleeping.

"You can't do that again." Odette reminded the young girl as she took her small hand into hers.

"I won't." Rigby promised, squeezing her mom's hand with reassurance.

"Negan." A murmur went through the group of people as everyone got down to kneel for the leather jacket wearing man.

Odette and Rigby watched the group with confusion as they stayed standing, looking up at the crosswalk that Negan stood on with a smirk on his face.

A chill took over Odette's body as she stared Negan. It was obvious he was enjoying this. It reminded her of a cult leader and that alone scared her more than the walkers outside.

Her blue eyes watched as Negan walked down the stairs and quickly with one swift motion of his hand everyone stood up and got back to work. She watched as Negan walked towards her with a grin on his face and his barbed wire baseball bat over his shoulder.

"Mama bear and baby cub." Negan greeted. "I got you something, kid." He said while pulling something from inside his leather jacket.

"Really?" Rigby questioned with excitement clear in her voice as she stared up at the bearded man.

A deep chuckle left his mouth as he nodded, "Here. I thought you might like this one."

Odette watched as Negan pulled a book out from his jacket. Her forehead furrowed as she watched the excitement take over Rigby's face as she dropped her mother's hand and grabbed the book from his hand before throwing her arms around him quickly before the realization set in and she quickly removed her arms and quietly thanked Negan before grabbing ahold of Odette's hand once again.

"Thank you." Rigby's voice was quiet as she held the book close to her body.

Negan nodded a small chuckle leaving his mouth. "No problem. Now, I've got to take your mom away for a little bit. Can I put you in charge of everyone? Keep them in check?" He stared at Rigby.

Rigby looked up at Odette quickly before looking back at Negan with a smile on her face. "Yes." She nodded with enthusiasm.

Negan nodded satisfied and quickly turned his gaze onto Odette. He could tell she was nervous but was trying to look nonchalant about it.

"Let's go mama bear." Negan commanded.

"Um, to where?" She questioned as she gave a quick goodbye to Rigby. She didn't want to leave Rigby alone but she knew it was no use fighting Negan.

"I've got a job for you." He smirked as they made their way out of The Sanctuary.
