chapter 13
Author's pov
Since that day, Ira and Veer have had a heated conversation about marriage; she is not talking to Veer.
Veer tried his best to melt her heart, but she was damn serious this time and stuck to her words.
She wants Veer to get married at any cost, and Veer is doing everything to avoid this marriage drama.
He even lied to the suitors who were coming to see him for their daughter, saying that his parents had gone abroad to meet his Nani, and Ira found out about that, so her anger was at its peak.
So Veer has to do something really unexpected to stop his mother.
And he never thought that he had to get her help to run from all this.
So he sent her a card to meet him today at CCD so he could propose his offer. She is his last hope.
Actually, last night he saw her for the first time in traditional attire, and it hit his mind that she could be typical Indian wife material as well. Exactly the kind of girl his mother wants to be her daughter-in-law. A modern, educated, successful, and cultured person who knows family values and Noor is everything he is looking for.
Now he is waiting for her, but it's 5:30, and she didn't show up. So Veer picked up his phone and dialed her office number.
"Hello. I'm Ms. Shah's Australian partner, and it's an emergency. I can't reach her."
"Yes, sir, let me forward this call." A woman from the other side said:
"Mam, you have a call from Australia." She said this to Noor.
"OK, connect me." Noor replied, and the call connected. "Hello.."
"It's 5:34 p.m. You are 34 minutes late." Veer spoke from the other side.
"I'm not coming." Noor replied bluntly.
"OK, then I'm coming to you because I will talk to you whether you come or not."
"Veer, don't waste my time. Tell me whatever you want." She asked, clutching her hair.
"No. Meet me in person. It's urgent." He replied.
"I don't have time for your childish games. Bye," she is about to cut, but his next words stop her.
"Ok, then I'll be waiting for you at your house. As you wish. Don't come, then I'm coming to you." Veer replied.
"Don't you... "
"Choice is yours, Noor. The clock is ticking, and I'll only wait here for the next 15 minutes." Saying this, he cut the call.
Noor put back the receiver with a loud thud and stormed out of her cabin in anger.
Defeatedly, she reached the CCD and saw him drinking coffee calmly. It enraged her. All she wants right now is to kill him. Right here and right now.
"What do you want?" She asks directly.
"At least have a seat." He replied, but Noor didn't move. "Sit, or I won't mind keeping you here unless you sit and listen to me."
She sits down and asks with an anger-dripping voice, "Say whatever you want to say."
"Marry me." Veer said, nonchalantly sipping his coffee.
"Excuse me?" Noor asked in disbelief.
"Are you even deaf now?" Veer mocked.
"I will never marry you. Not even in my nightmare."
"Just a contract marriage for a year. otherwise marrying you? huh?... never. So it's just a contract for the year after that, tum apne raste or mai apne (you will be on your way and I'm on mine). That's it."
"What do you think of yourself, Veer Singh Randhawa? Nikkah is not a joke." She replied, fuming in anger.
"I know that's why I'm choosing you. You hate me as much as I hate you. So you will never fall for my charms, and you are rich, so you will never agree to this contract just for money. simple." He replied, flashing his toothy smile.
"Breathing the same air with you is poisonous for me; how could you even imagine that I would ever agree with such nonsense of yours? I would prefer to die rather than be your fake wife." She replied, getting up from her seat and storming out.
Her brain is about to explode at any moment. She was already in a bad mood, and now this
"What the hell does he think of himself? Idiot. I hate him so much that if one sin is forgivable, then I would have killed him long ago." She said this while driving recklessly.
She is just driving aimlessly because there is so much going on in her mind, and she can't handle all this anymore.
Inayat's words are still ringing in her mind, and she doesn't know what to do or what not to do.
Actually, Inayat visited her this afternoon after her family broke the engagement.
Noor left her home early, so she doesn't know about it.
Noor was not surprised when she heard from Inayat about all this because she expected such things from Inayat's reckless family.
"Noor, please, I beg you. Please marry Saad, or they will never let me marry Aadhil." Inayat pleaded, crying.
"I can't help you. Instead of convincing me, you should try to convince your family." Noor replied.
"Please Noor. They will only agree if me and my brother get married in the same house."
"Then it's not my problem. I'm really sorry. I will never marry a pathetic person like your brother."
"Noor, please try to understand." Inayat is crying, and it's making Noor uncomfortable to see her pleading and crying.
"Bhabhijaan, please. There is no use."
"Noor, not for me, not for Aadhil, but please for the sake of my baby." She cried, holding her belly, and Noor was shocked to hear her words. "Please help me. Only you can help me, please." While crying, she collapsed on the ground, and Noor was shocked. She doesn't know what to say or what to do.
She kneeled in front of Inayat and asked, "How is this possible?"
"Me and Aadhil." She sobbed, "We know each other from college. We loved each other from then on, but my family will never agree to a love marriage, so Aadhil somehow made it like an arranged marriage proposal."
"Does he know about children?" Noor asks, cutting her, and Inayat shakes her head.
"No one knows." Inayat replied meekly.
"Then tell him."
"Things will get worse. Aadhil will definitely do something impulsive, and if my family gets to know, then they will kill my baby. Please, Noor, don't tell anyone. Please help me." Inayat cried and hugged Noor.
Noor has no words. Somehow, she managed to stop her crying.
"Please promise me you will help me." Inayat ask.
"I'll find a solution. I promise." Noor said, and Inayat left.
Noor's phone rang, and she came out of her thoughts. She stopped the car and picked it up. It's Sarah.
"Hello. Noor. Where are you?" Sarah asked, worried. "Why weren't you picking up calls, and where are you? I called the office, and they told me you left the office hours ago. "Sarah asked in one go.
"I'm coming home, Bhabhijaan. Just relax." Noor replied and cut the call. Then she drove towards home.
She reached home, and Shahzaib was already waiting for her.
"Where were you?" He asked, palming her cheeks.
"I just need some air," she replied.
"Let's have dinner..."
"No bhaijan I'm not hungry." She replied and turned to leave.
"Noor. I will never marry you against your wish." Shahzaib said, and she stopped in her tracks.
She turned again and ran towards Shahzaib, hugging him tightly.
"I know Bhaijan."
