24. Some Like It Chaotic
This was one of those things Grim wanted to be surprised about, but he just couldn't. As much as he hated to say it, it just made sense.
He knew his mother had to be a goddess. That was obvious. Only two gods could make a fully divine child.
Hades never talked about his mother. Grim had always assumed she was some random minor goddess, like the goddess of clouds or something (and Grim didn't blame him for that theoretical situation- Nimbus was a babe). Gods were all about sex- sex with animals, sex with humans, sex with inanimate objects, and especially sex with each other. Grim didn't put much thought into it- knowing his father's history, it could literally be anyone.
But Eris? He tried to imagine his father boning the evil goddess of chaos. He felt slightly nauseous.
Eris rubbed her chin, a sly smile on her lips. "A long time ago, I tried to destroy the world. But I suppose you know that, right? Hades and his little friends sealed me in a vase and he had the gall to keep me in his own home. As the years passed, I become lonely, trapped in that stupid piece of pottery. The spell's power began to wane, and I reached out to Hades. We spent many nights talking to each other, about our lives, how we felt...Your father was such a handsome man."
Hades was a lot of things, but handsome was not one of the things that came to Grim's mind.
"One night, Hades did the unthinkable. He broke the seal on my vase, unbeknownst to the other gods. Our relationship only grew stronger from there. We even started to create you, Grim, by combining our powers energy."
While that would have made an excellent metaphor for sex, godly children weren't made the traditional way. It was literally an monumental, world changing procedure for two gods to reproduce, which served as nice birth control for many couples.
Eris grit her teeth. "But it all changed when I told him my plan. I wanted to continue where I left off, dragging this miserable planet into ruin. With my dear Hades by my side, we'd be unstoppable. I'd wreck havoc, and he would collect every soul for his kingdom."
Eris clenched her fist, a storm gathering in her eyes. "He had a change of heart. He called me a monster. Hades and I fought, and I lost to him. He sealed me back in that wretched vase and tried his best to forget about me. Like what we had never happened."
Eris dragged her fingers across Grim's face, tracing his sharp cheekbones. "Though I suppose with you around, he couldn't entirely erase me from his life. I wonder if the other gods know about you, about what your parentage is. I wonder what they would think if they knew Hades had a child with the evil chaos goddess?"
Grim tore away from her grip, a sick feeling in the back of his throat. "Why does it matter?"
"Grimslay, do you even know what you're the god of?" Eris asked, her wild eyes glimmering.
