( REAL LIFE )
The harsh, cold air from the window hit her face, making her flinch. She had sat in a corner wanting some space to herself before her band arrived at the bar. A part of her hadn't agreed to the break the band was to have after their last performance tonight. Ever since whatever had happened with him almost a year ago, Florence had put her everything into her work. She knew how badly the band needed a break to create new music and just have a moment to themselves, but somewhere she felt that after the break would end, she wouldn't be that much interested in the band.
She had reassurance from her friends that nothing of that sort would ever occur but that never made her feel better. She wanted him back so she could enjoy music again, the band had of course noticed a change in her ever since the incident but she seemed to do better so they never questioned for more.
But she knew, Florence knew how she felt and never spoke up, not wanting to create drama, the band was doing so well and she didn't want to disturb the flow. So, here she was, an hour earlier than her band members just so she could wallow in self-pity. Thirty minutes in and all she had was a drink that she had been staring at.
She realised that if in the next 30 minutes, she didn't get a drink in her system, she would not be able to make it through the performance. So, she left the non-alcoholic drink on the table and went towards the bartender to get a much more better drink. She hadn't noticed who she had sat beside until his voice pulled her out of her trance.
"Much of a McLaren fan are ya?" He pointed at the bright orange cap she had been wearing, she totally forgot that she had stolen it from her friend Paxton who loved f1.
"Oh, uh no? I mean, sure, but it's my friend's." she pulled of the cap to examine it, she hadn't really observed it well other than the fact that she needed something to hide her face. She gathered that a bright orange cap would not be helping her case.
"Oh, it is signed?" he asked, taking a sip of his drink.
"Ah, yes, my friend got it signed last year." She nodded and put the cap back on her head, pulling it down to hide her face. She observed that the man beside her was wearing a similar coloured shirt from the same team.
"You?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Uh, got it for a birthday yeah." He said very unconvincingly, he didn't know whether this pretty girl in front of him would turn out to be a psycho fan or not.
"Cool." She told and took a sip of her drink, the uncomfortable silence continued for a few seconds until he decided to break it.
"I'm Oscar." He gave her a small smile.
"I'm Florence." she extended her hand out which he gladly accepted.
She soon got a text in her groupchat with the band questioning where she was and that they had arrived at the bar. She immediately downed her drink and left the boy beside her with many questions.
"It was nice meeting you Oscar, and here, have this." She put her cap on his head and quickly sprinted away to the backdoor of the bar.
Oscar was left bewildered at the girl who had just ran out on him without giving him any answers. All she gave him was a McLaren cap which made him internally laugh for a second knowing how he had multitudes of them lying in house and the one who signed it literally drove beside him.
Florence on the other hand, ran out of the backdoor to the front as if her life depended on it, which it did. She didn't want the group to know that she had been here alone, that would raise up questions which she didn't have the energy to answer.
She stood in front of the bar, looking at herself in the reflection of someone's fancy car, a McLaren that too. 'oh what irony.' Her hair looked messy which she smoothened out with her hands but other than that, everything was perfect. So she took the step and went inside the bar, quickly finding her group keeping their things on a secluded table for them.
"Hi, sorry for being late. My, uh, walk took time. Yeah." she tried to convince them.
"You walked all the way here?" William asked her while the others continued setting up their microphones.
"Yes?" She said unconvincingly and took her microphone too.
The group immediately went on stage after the bar owner had introduced them to crowd, a large part of it was mostly their more mature fans in Melbourne who weren't stalker-ish.
Annika's mic was already set up on the stage while the others except Nithya, set theirs up on their holders. Florence still hadn't looked up, as she was customising the settings of the keyboard given to her. It took the group a few seconds to fit everything to their likes and then Annika started with a small speech thanking the lot who was present their and also told them on what the group would be doing in their break.
As soon as the speech ended, Annika had started with the lyrics while Will and Pax took the backup sounds for it. Slowly, Florence started her part and soon Nithya joined.
The song flowed so perfectly that it shocked Florence but eased her nerves. Soon, she was the one singing a part of the song when Pax came and touched their shoulders while lip syncing to her parts happily. She smiled out at the crowd as she sang, she then saw a pair of eyes in the crowd she recognised, the face was amused. She gave him a small smile and averted her eyes to Pax who continued the song with his part.
The band smoothly played their first song to the crowd. While they thanked the crowd again, all Florence could think about was what would happen after this.
Oscar on the other hand was surprised to say the least, he didn't expect the pretty girl beside him to be the girl who was going to be singing on the stage tonight. She was also the girl from a band that his teammate couldn't stop talking about, partly because Lando loved bands and partly because the band was from Australia and so was Oscar. It was quite annoying listening to them everywhere just because Lando thought it would give him more information on Oscar.
Oscar enjoyed a very few of their songs- the songs Lando hadn't played -but he would have never thought he would find the keyboard-ist of the group to give him a McLaren cap of all.
All throughout the night, Oscar had his eyes on Florence who looked like she wanted to run away from the bar. His friends had asked him if he knew her, noticing earlier that a girl in the same outfit had been talking to him. He had nodded no but he so badly wanted to go and talk with her again.
Leaving Oscar to sit alone with his non-alcoholic drink. Two of his friends went over to talk with the group and congratulate them. Oscar hadn't seen Florence talking with his friends, he had actually lost her just before they went over. He left his drink alone and wandered outside of the bar, hoping he would find her there. And he was right, she was there, having a smoke.
"Isn't that bad for your um, throat?" he asked, leaning on the wall beside her. It looked like she got startled when she dropped the roll onto the floor. She let out a silent curse and turned towards him.
"So, are you a fan or something?" she asked, a slight bitterness evident in her tone.
"No, no, came out here to think." Oscar lied smoothly.
"Hm, alright." She nodded at the guy beside her. She saw her band coming out of the bar with their things and decided to leave Oscar behind.
"Hey Florence" He called her and she turned around midway yelling out a 'hm' to him. "can I have your number?" It was a daring thing to ask, he didn't even know her that well but he wanted to.
"I don't give it out to strangers Oscar. Goodbye." She gave a small smirk and walked towards her group.
