Chapter Six - The Offer

Violetta"s POV

The day before the interview.

"Yaas girl, rock that dress!", Jasmine applauded. "Jasmine, are you sure this is ok, I mean, it's a little fitted," I whispered feeling timid. "Don't worry, it's perfect, I mean everything is great on you, besides, you can pick up a few sugar daddies?" she said delivering me a wink.

"Ugh! No matter what kind of situation I'm in, I'm never gonna be a sex slave. No thanks," I replied. "Well, whatever. But you look great, now go ace that interview." She cheered once more. I carried the things she gave me and put them in a bag. I said my goodbyes and fled for work along with my kids. I need to locate a daycare cause I can't keep taking them everywhere I go.

As usual, it's time to meet Simon. My other jobs including babysitting are daily except for the bar which is done twice a week. But I don't work at all on Sundays which I'm very grateful for.

It's Thursday and my kids were on some kind of Midterm break, so no school today. I phoned Jack last night to ask if it was ok to bring them along and luckily, he said yes.

Speaking of last night, it was weird because, at work, this guy wouldn't stop staring at me. He was the hottest guy I'd ever met and looked oddly familiar. Apparently, he's the Mike Mariano that I'm hopefully going to work for. Jasmine wouldn't stop gawking and talking about him.

I couldn't afford a cab because I needed to get groceries for dinner, so we had to walk to Jack's house. I need to save up cash no matter how little.

We finally got there and I rang the doorbell. Jack was at the door this time and not Rebecca. I was happy about that because I didn't want to deal with her this morning, especially with my kids here.

"Hey," Jack greeted. "Hi," I said along with my kids. He invited us into the house and I saw Simon playing with his toys that were scattered on the rug. When he saw me, smiled, then looked at my kids and hid himself. I never knew he could be this shy.

"Hey Simon, don't you want to play with them", Jack said trying to encourage Simon to meet my kids but he didn't budge. Nikolas ran over to Simon and introduced himself. He seemed excited to meet him but Simon was too shy to answer back. "C'mon Simon, he is a friend," Jack informed trying to convince Simon again but he still didn't move.

Jack eventually got frustrated so he gave up and decided to leave their possible friendship to nature. I went over to Simon and picked him up, then I took him to his playroom. Although this mansion was huge, I still know some important places. This kid was living the dream. His playroom had three different sections. It's the size of my whole apartment. The first part had white and black tiled floors, some toy animals, a shelf for pushers and toys, and a table attached to another little shelf with a few chairs. It has nice green windows and a small couch with pillows.

The second part has a little tent with pillows that spell out "APPLE". It has another shelf with materials on it, some nice decorations, a small green table and pillows as chairs, a nice white rug on the floor, and some paintings.

There was a short step that led to the last part of the playroom which held a huge TV, a small desk with stationery and drawing books, a ball pit at a corner of the room, a booth with a chair and piano, and pictures on the wall. The playroom also had a small bathroom.

This place was so nice but a little messy. Simon needs to learn to clean up after himself. I went back down to meet Jack talking to my kids. They were all chuckling and a smile couldn't help but creep onto my face.

Smiles are contagious after all.

"Hey, I'm sorry for the sudden info about me having to bring my kids, it's just that I have..." I began but he cut me off. "It's fine".

"I wanted to talk to you about something though, so how about you come to my office after settling the children down? Simon might be shy but he has no problem with sharing, so you can take your kids to the playing room too, I'll tell a maid to show you the way to my office." He explained and left.

He had an office in his house?

What kind of person will have an office in their house? This dude works all the time and he still wants to work at home. I went over to my kids and took them to the playroom where Simon was. I opened the door and saw him building blocks. They scattered into the room checking out the place in awe so I left them to it.

"Simon, these are my kids, they want to be your friend, don't you?" I said in a friendly tone. "Um, Yes" Simon replied.
"So, you can play with them, I want to speak to your dad, so I'll be right back, ok," I said again and left. The maid was in the kitchen washing dishes. When she saw me, she stopped what she was doing and took me to Jack's office. It was on the second floor, so we took the elevator.

This place wasn't tall or anything, but the land was wide. It would've been 4 floors but I don't think the one underground counts.

Everywhere was so glorious and beautiful. There was a pathway with lights and marble foundations which I walked down. I passed multiple doors then we finally stopped at a wooden one that the maid knocked on.

We heard a "come in", so we both ambled in. My mouth dropped at the sight of the remarkable view that I had seen. It had huge shelves, nice curtains, a brown big desk, a black leather chair with two chairs in front of it, a brown and white rug, a small TV, and two couches. There were also little ornaments in the office. The tables were a little messy with papers scattered everywhere and his laptop and other gadgets but it was still wonderful.

Jack excused the maid and told me to sit down and so I did. He looked at me and eventually began to talk. I swear he looked so sexy sitting in his leather chair.

"So, I was thinking about something that would help you a lot...I thought why not discuss it" he started.

"I feel bad about the fact you are doing so much for me and you are living like this. I mean, not to be rude or anything, but I know how many jobs you have and how much of a burden it is, so I thought to make things easier for you, you can quit all the other jobs and be full-time taking care of Simon." He announced.

I was shocked, and I mean the idea wasn't so bad. "And of course, I won't forget about your kids. How about I sponsor them to a better school and I can lend you one of the apartments I own close by for you to live in and of course, I'll increase your pay" he suggested.

"Umm, actually", I commenced. "I mean thanks for your consideration but I actually saw a good offer for a job as an assistant and it's not so far from my house... besides, you know I prefer to be independent rather than to rely on people. I don't want you paying for my care when I do so little, Simon is an obedient kid after all and it seems absurd for you to increase my pay when I'm sitting down all day. I prefer to work for my money rather than getting it free... But, if I don't get the job which I might not, maybe I could consider your offer minus you paying for almost everything" I let out.

"I think you should reconsider," he said. "I have. I don't want a situation where my kids feel abandoned because I'm always with Simon. And what happens when Rebbeca throws a tantrum about how I'm always here like before? You'll end up having to let me go, leaving me jobless and alone, like everyone does. I hope you understand."

"Of course I do", he smiled comfortingly.

We discussed a little more about things then I left his office and began to walk back to the playroom. The idea wasn't so bad though. I just hope things go well now that there are new opportunities.

I arrived back at the playroom to see my two daughters playing together with drawing books and my son and Simon playing in the ball pit. I'm happy Simon doesn't have to feel so lonely anymore. I always felt bad for him, the kid has no social life.

It was easy to work today since Simon had company. All I did was sit down and watch TV, and when it was snack time, I got some peanut butter cookies and a juice box for Simon, Nikolas, and Naomi while I gave Nora chocolate chip cookies because she is allergic to peanuts. I still wonder who does the shopping. Maybe it's the help because when I come here, there is always a new set of food and snacks.

Soon, it was time to leave and I did so after saying goodbye to Simon. I held my kid's hand in hand and paid for a cab to drive us home. I called in sick at the other jobs so I wouldn't have to begin to worry about where to put my kids.

Today is the day of the interview and everything is set. I asked my brother Gabriel if he could pick me up and take me to the interview and he agreed.

I knew I needed to come with a nice car, cause, I mean this person is paying 30,000 dollars a month. Jasmine said I had an advantage because I had seen the guy at the bar already but I don't think that makes a difference.

Today, I woke up by 5:30 and did my normal routine. My kids had already finished eating breakfast but I was still getting ready. I put on some makeup which I don't normally do, then did my hair, but instead of having the tiny natural puffy curls, I straightened it and then did big curls as the ones models wear, then I began to wear the items Jasmine gave me.

I put on the beautiful black fitted dress with white buttons at the side and a small slit, along with a nice shoe, a bag, and the old jewelry that I got from my mum for Valentine's Day. I looked in the mirror and was amazed. It had been a while since I felt pretty.

Jasmine is rich, but she rebelled from her family and decided to live a life of adventure, either way, she still has access to money so everything she had was designer. This is the first time I'm wearing something so expensive. I feel so. At the back of my mind, a voice told me I didn't deserve to wear the clothes but I brushed it off to avoid a mental breakdown.

Her hair

Her dress

Her bag

Her shoe

I walked out of my room and gathered my kids outside. We waited for about two minutes then at last my brother pulled up in his black Ford Mustang. I walked to the car and put my kids in the back seat. They were so jumpy today.

The space was just enough which I was happy about. I sat in front and we all buckled up. "So how much are you paying me for this?" my brother questioned. "Ugh stop playing games and drive!"

"I'm surprised. It's been a while since you last wore a dress" he explained. "Well, I wouldn't have but it's necessary," I answered back and rolled my eyes at him.

"I'm simply saying you look nice. Chill!" he explained which made me blush. We dropped my kids off at their school and drove off. "Hey, you know the way right?", I asked feeling nervous. I wanted everything to be perfect. "Yeah, I have the location" he replied. "Oh ok... well, do you know how the place looks and..."

"Shut it" he screamed cutting me off. I gave him a glare telling him I deserved an apology and he finally spoke up except he didn't apologize. "I know you're nervous but you need to calm down, things are gonna go fine." He said.

"No, it's not. What was I thinking... I mean... this person pays a whole thirty grand every freaking month. I didn't even go to college, how did I possibly think I would get the job? I'm so stupid." I said losing every bit of hope I had left, feeling the need to cry. I was about to tell him to turn the car around when he hit me on the head playfully.

"Owww!!!!" I exclaimed griping my head in pain. "Stop looking down on yourself. You've been through a lot yet you're still standing. You are strong and if they don't accept you then it's their loss, besides, it's a job for an assistant, not an engineer. All you need to know is how to do basic things and remember those extra courses you took. They'll hire you if you fit their taste so just be yourself." He said trying to console me. "Yeah, I guess you are right. I'm just nervous."

"I know. You can do it" he said once again. A few minutes later, we arrived at a tall building. A very tall building. It looked like a skyscraper and had a massive width as well. It was fancy and beautiful. There were so many black expensive cars outside and everyone was wearing fancy clothes with the latest phones and designer items. I felt like I didn't belong.

"Hey, you can do this, and remember if you don't get the job, it's their loss". My brother said. I hugged him and he wished me luck as I got out of the car. He escorted me inside the building and left after pointing out the paparazzi who were being held back by a few men in black at the gate. I wonder why they're there so early in the morning.

I walked over to the receptionist and greeted her. "Good morning. Umm, I'm here for the job interview for the assistant position" I said with a sweet voice. "Oh, yes. Please go to the 30th floor and wait with the others" she said politely.
"Ok, thank you," I replied.

I walked down the hall only to realize I didn't know the way. I asked a brunette man for directions and he led me to an elevator. I got in along with 11 other people and tapped on the 8th floor. The elevator was huge and made out of glass. I could see the beautiful things outside from here and the ride was roughly five minutes long because we were all going to different places. It was nice and the view calmed me down.

It was finally my turn and the elevator door opened up. I plodded out and walked over to the receptionist taking in the amazing environment. It was beautiful. There were a lot of people walking around to show it was a busy place but it was so organized and elegant. There was another receptionist there so I walked toward her. She had blonde long hair and a lot of makeup on her face.

"Hi, I'm here for the job interview," I said, trying to be polite. "Open your eyes, as you can see people are waiting there so can you please go away". She said with an attitude. I wish I could slap that makeup off her face but I just walked away and sat down.

A bunch of beautiful and classy girls went in and came out but there were only a few men. It was almost my turn and I felt incredibly uneasy. This is the first time in my life I'm doing something this big. My dad always told me I was nothing and that I wouldn't achieve anything and at one point, I started to believe him.

I remember when he would beat me up and badmouth me but being here made me feel.... valuable. Besides, I need to remind myself that I can do this, and as my brother said if I don't get this job, it's their loss. I sat there with a smile on my face being as confident as ever and waited to be called in.
