Chapter 21: Through Walls
That night, nobody sees Bakugou, who reclusively hides away in his room. It is another quiet day—or evening—in the dorms, the students in somber moods that seem to be becoming increasingly more frequent as of late.
Kirishima lays on his bed in his dorm, his hands tucked underneath his head, between it and the pillow, as he stares at the ceiling in deep thought, a furrow in his brow. It's been way too quiet, particularly across the wall separating his dorm and Bakugou's. He can usually hear the muffled sound of his classmate fumbling around with books and homework, faint music, or even the rare event of Bakugou dropping something accidentally and scaring himself.
Now it is just silent.
Kirishima purses his lip and turns onto his side. After a few deep breaths, he closes his eyes, ready to sleep despite it not being as late as he usually turns in. However, he is interrupted by a sound, his head twisting toward the wall when he hears it. He strains his ears to listen harder.
Crying.
Extremely quiet, barely audible weeping that wrenches at Kirishima's heart. He knows he caused it. Gritting his teeth, he turns back toward the ceiling. He wants to go console his friend and help him, but he needs to give Bakugou some time and make everything up to him first.
A slightly louder sob and voice crack pierces through Kirishima's ears like a dagger, practically whispering to him that he is worthless. He twists around again, this time onto his stomach, pulling his pillow tightly over his head and holding it there. He has to wait. He has to give Bakugou time. He would make it worse if he goes over now. He would—
A knock cuts through his thoughts, and Kirishima's head snaps up to stare at his door before another sound of hand against wood rings through the air, now the only sound, as Bakugou had abruptly halted his crying. At the second sound, Kirishima realize the knocking wasn't at his door, and he blinks for a moment before realization dawns on him and his eyes widen before trailing over to the wall adjoining his and Bakugou's rooms.
None of the other students have ever been welcomed into Bakugou's room, so who could it be? Heck, even Kirishima probably isn't welcome there anymore.
He hears the door of the next room creak slightly as it opens and waits, body strained from nerves.
"Bakugou..." Kirishima hears the voice say, recognizing the low rumble as his home room teacher's voice. The rest of the words are cut off by the muffling walls, however, though Kirishima really doesn't mind it as he flips back down on the bed. At least he has someone there. A chopped up phrase does reach his ears, however. "...but...-ents...in the office..."
Kirishima's face twists up. Why would it matter to Bakugou if someone's in the office? Especially after school. Can't the guy just have the day off after everything?
The boy himself apparently does not agree with Kirishima, though, as Kirishima hears a sound of agreement before the door closes. The faint sounds of two tracks of footsteps trails down the hall as Kirishima twists and curls up on his side, worry plaguing his mind.
