Chapter 13: Eavesdropping

"I don't think we should do this," Jiro says with a blank expression as she walks behind Uraraka, Ashido, and Hagakure.

Yaoyorozu quietly comments disapprovingly from next to Jiro, "I agree. This is an invasion of privacy."

"Oh come on, you guys, they aren't gonna tell us, and the rest of the class knows!" Uraraka whispers incredulously as she peeks around the corner of the hallway Bakugou just walked down. Seeing the angry blonde finally enter the door of the teachers' lounge, she hurries forward into the hall, the other girls following.

Asui trails behind the others and comments, a finger to her chin, "If Bakugou finds out, he's going to try to kill us, kero. There should be a reason everyone's been so quiet."

Ashido huffs. "But we need to know what's happening. I've already told the guys this, but we can't help if we don't know what's happening."

"Besides, if it makes you feel any better, this might not even be about the secret!" Hagakure says giddily, unconvincing by her own words and clearly excited to hear some gossip.

"If you guys want to listen in, you can, but I'm out," Jiro says, rolling her eyes as she turns to head back down the hallway in the opposite direction, but before she can even take two steps, Ashido grabs her arm and looks at her pleadingly as the emo girl turns toward her with a frown.

"Please, we need your quirk to do this," Ashido begs, squeezing the girl's arm lightly. "I need to know."

Jiro frowns at the girl and seems to have a mental battle before she sighs wearily. "Fine. Jeez. But it's not my fault when—and yes, it is when, not if—we get caught."

Ashido smiles brightly. "Thank you! You won't, I promise!"

Uraraka claps her hands together lightly to get their attention from where she stands in the empty room next to the teachers' lounge. "Alright, people, get in here."

The other girls enter, some more hesitant than others, and Uraraka speaks up again. "Momo, could you make us a small speaker, please?" she asks the taller girl politely, and Yaoyorozu begrudgingly creates the object. "Awesome!" Uraraka says cheerfully. "Now, Jiro, could you plug into the speaker and the wall to redirect the sound?"

Jiro raises an eyebrow. "I mean, I haven't done that before, but sure. Might work, I guess."

As the girls settle down into chairs around a table where they set the speaker, Jiro sends one of here jacks towards the wall and one to the speaker, plugging both into their locations. Yaoyorozu guiltily fidgets in her seat, sitting up straight with rigid posture, Asui disapprovingly looks around the nearly empty room with only a few tables and chair, Uraraka seems extremely curious as she leans forward in her seat towards the speaker, Ashido looks nervously but seriously at the same speaker, and Hagakure giddily waves her gloves around as they wait for the jacks to plug in, Jiro now sitting in a chair between Yaoyorozu and Asui, across from the other two girls. As soon as the jacks plug in, some static makes its way out of the speaker, and Ashido's face drops sadly, thinking the speaker/jack combination was not working, for a moment before they hear it.

"I'm Detective Tsukauchi Naomasa. I'll be handling your case," the small machine dictates.

Ashido shoots up from her seat, arms up in the air, and almost shouts a happy exclamation before Uraraka slaps a hand over the pink girl's mouth. "Shhh!" Uraraka says urgently, a finger to her lips. The walls separating the rooms may be thick enough to prevent their speaking from being heard, but Ashido's would-be-loud exclamation would most certainly be audible.

Ashido blinks dumbly before slowly sinking back into her chair, nodding with a chastised expression. And so, they all tuck in, even the students more reluctant to be there paying rapt attention to the voices that permeate the air.

Needless to say, by the end of the meeting they listened to, the girls are crying in their chairs as the sound of Bakugou's sobbing filters through the speaker.

"No," Yaoyorozu whispers, a hand cupped over her mouth as tears cascade down her cheeks. Hagakure and Uraraka hug as they sob and Tsuyu's lip trembles.

Jiro stares at the speaker as her tears fall silently, her mouth agape in shock. Slowly, her earphone jack slips away from the speaker and wall. "How could that have...to Bakugou..." she questions disbelievingly.

Ashido is motionless in her seat as she cries, lip and shoulders trembling. She had wanted to know what happened. She didn't want to be left out of the loop. She wanted to help, but.... What could she do? Now that she knows, is there anything to do? This is so much worse than anything she could have ever imagined. "Bakugou—" her voice trembles as she cuts herself off. "Bakugou...w-was r-r-raped?" she queries nobody in particular, as if instead asking God why and how such a thing would have happened. A sob wrenches itself from her throat and she curls in on herself, face in her palms as she cries.

None of the girls move for a long while, only able to get up after about a half an hour passes, at which point they glumly return to the dorms with tear tracks down their faces, not knowing how they are going to be able to speak to Bakugou the next time they see him. How are they supposed to act?

I hate this chapter. I've realized I suck at anything not Bakugou-centric and I'm extremely unmotivated in the writing of it. That's all😬 sorry about the crappy chappie
