Polite

I exited the doors of my highschool, after my math tutorials.I was the worst at math so I decided to go to tutorials, but I didn't feel like it was helping. It was dark out,the headlights and lamposts illuminated the streets. My house was nearby,so I walked to school and back.I made my way to the street that was on the slower route home.It was calm, the cars and trucks didn't blare down the road, and I wanted to enjoy the scenery. There was a full moon out, lighting the trees.Mama said not to go on this road. She said someone could just come up and get me,and no one would know. She was over reacting.I'm not a little kid,I could protect myself from some creeper who wants to give me free candy or whatever.

Usually,I'd walk alone along this street, admiring the scenery.I never saw anyone else walk along this road. But today,I wasn't alone. On the other side of the road was a girl my age.She had black hair that went to her shoulders,a red tank top, denim shorts, and sneakers. She carried a cello case.

She seemed to struggle with the instrument, holding the handle instead of using a strap like I saw some of my friends use to carry their instruments.Mama always said to help those in need, even in the simplest ways. It'd only be polite to help her carry her cello.

"Hey!"I called to the girl. She jumped a little bit and looked at me.She didn't say anything and slightly quickened her pace. She must be scared."Do you need help carrying that?"I asked.I walked over to her slowly, like she was a cat I was trying to not frighten. It probably made me look more creepy.I was now walking alongside her,and she examined my face. She probably thought I was one of those jock guys who always hit on girls. But after a few seconds of hesitation she said "Yes,thank you"and handed me the case.

It was heavier than I thought.I've carried my friend's violin, and it was much lighter than I thought it would be.I guess cellos were bigger so it would probably be heavier, too.I didn't know what to say to her,but I couldn't just be quiet. It would probably make her less scared if she had someone to talk to.Honestly, that's how I felt."So,do you go to Seven Meadows High?"I ask.It was a crappy way to start conversation, but it was something. She nodded. We were silent again.

I realized I'd never seen a cello in person before.I knew what it looked like, but I wondered how it feels, how it actually looks in scale."If you don't mind me asking, may I see your cello?I have never seen one up close."She tensed up."No.You may not."She got closer. She looked at her case worryingly.

"Huh?Why not?"I asked. She looked me right in the eyes."It's mine."she said firmly. We walked near a lamp post.I could see she was upset.Angry, with fearful eyes.

"Look,I won't break it or anything,I just wanna see it.Just a peek?"I ask again."I said no,okay?"She was louder this time.
"Calm down,I won't even touch it.Just literally two seconds and you don't have to show me the cello again.I'm just curious."
"How many times do I have to say no!?NO.YOU MAY NOT LOOK INSIDE.IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!"Her voice had a new aggresiveness and volume than earlier.I was being obnoxious but this was uncalled for.She grabbed the bottom of the case and tried to get it back.

I pulled back.

I have no idea why,but I felt like I needed to protect this cello.Like she'd hurt it.I must've been tired,or scared. Her eyes filled with malice and she gave a powerful pull and claimed the case. She held it close and ran with the speed of the wind into the darkness.I could never catch up.So,I just ran to my house and went straight to my room.I couldn't sleep that night.

I woke up at around 6 A.M.I was tired. So very tired.I went to the living room and turned on the T.V.The news was on.There was the normal random jazz, until I heard one of the names of my classmates.

"Christopher Lionel has gone missing as of this morning. He was a senior student at Seven Meadows High School, age 17..."They continued to describe his traits and how his friend,Jay,reported his abscense."Jay said that he wouldn't pick up the phone like usual. When he went to pick up Chris this morning, his parents had found out he was gone.We believe he went missing during the night..."
All of this shocked me,but what they said next left me paralyzed.

"He was last seen in the orchestra room.We managed to find some drops of blood in the carpet. It would be safe to say that Chris has been killed. When we went to investigate his classes to confiscate items for possible clues,we found that his cello was on the floor, broken possibly by being dropped, and the place which held his cello case...was empty."

Author's Note:Sorry if this wasn't good.I just thought of this and wanted to write it down. Thanks for reading.I hope you enjoyed it.
