The Final Challenge

Y/n
The real final challenge had arrived.
They had the final challenge that afternoon, and then the final dinner service the next night. The Hell's Kitchen staff had to prepare for the packed dinner service that was about to occur. But the final challenge was far from normal. Instead of being in the kitchen, they were outside on a fancy smancy rooftop with everyone watching. A whole audience. Not to mention there were ten chefs there who had been eliminated since Y/n and Jimin had to choose their brigade for the final dinner service that would determine (or at least strongly influence) who won Hell's Kitchen.
They had spent the previous night making menus to cook and present as the challenge that day. Well, after they had done each other, that was. Haha. Bang bang, smash smash. Y/n loved it.
"Everyone, please welcome the Hell's Kitchen finalists," Gordon said, and the giant crowd broke into applause. It was an enormous venue with fairy lights, screens to show close-ups of Jimin and Y/n, and a stage where all the food would be judged. Y/n had confidence in her menu and had cooked several dishes to meet the menu requirements, though anything could happen in Hell's Kitchen.
Y/n and Jimin stood on the stage, and staff had all their dishes prepared on trays behind them. They'd serve them, of course, in order, and guest judges would take the stage to choose who won each round. No double points were allowed; only one person could win each round, no matter how flawless both dishes were.
First up was the battle of the hot appetizers, which was to be judged by David Myers, a chef and owner of the famous restaurant, ADRIFT. He had a man bun and a casual black blazer on over a turtleneck that made him like a direct contrast to Chef Ramsay, who always wore that same white chef's jacket.
As always, ladies first.
"Y/n," Gordon said, and the crowd went wild with applause to introduce her. Y/n laughed and grinned, feeling sweat dripping down her face. It was one thing to cook in Hell's Kitchen, but it was another to cook and perform in front of all the cameras and people. Live. At least the dinner services didn't have a live audience. Well, customers, but that wasn't the same. "Will you describe your dish for Chef David please?"
"It would be an honor, chef." Y/n cleared her throat and spoke as loudly and clearly as she could. "Chef, today I have a prawn fritter with jalapenos and garlic, topped with some caviar and chives."
"Wow. It looks amazing," David said, taking his knife and fork and digging in. Not to brag, but yeah, it did. There were three fritters, and they were essentially fancy hushpuppies. David made an mmm sound as he ate. "Delicious. Great balancing of the flavors, and it is definitely worthy of being on any elegant menu."
"Thank you, chef."
It was Jimin's turn. He had a charming smile as always, his hair neat and his chef's jacket on and hugging his chest. It seemed he had learned from Jungkook how to talk to customers.
"Chef, today I made you an uni pasta. Uni butter, uni cream, glazed the uni, bruleed it. And then I gave it a furikake for a crunchy texture."
"Wow. Ambitious." David took a bite, and Y/n had to admit it looked awesome. And David agreed. "Amazing. The furikake was an excellent choice. I'm giving this round's point to Jimin."
Welp, shit. That was not the greatest start, but she still had four more chances to take the lead and win. At least David liked her dish nonetheless.
Y/n and Jimin took turns shaking David's hand while the crowd applauded for Jimin. Jimin said good job to her, and she said the same to him. The cold apps were next, and Y/n won that round to tie the score at one to one. As for entrees, that was the toughest part of the night. They had several meats they had to design dishes for, the first being chicken.
Y/n went for Italian chicken puttanesca, and that went over well with the judge, Stephanie Izard. Jimin went for something simpler by having a home-style chicken. It was roasted with baby squash and black truffle potato puree. Both were solid dishes, but Y/n won the point, and Jimin high-fived her. At least they were both good sports about it.
Whoever won the challenge got the luxury of picking first for their brigade. That meant Y/n could get Seulgi. Then again, Jimin would probably go for Jungkook first anyway, but Y/n wanted Seulgi secured by her side.
"Now for the battle of the fish," Gordon said, introducing Nancy Silverton as that round's judge. Y/n presented her miso-cured salmon dish, and Nancy loved it. Jimin went for a potato-crusted halibut, which made Y/n's mouth water. She didn't know how Jimin managed to make everything look amazing.
Of course, Jimin won that round, making the score two to two.
Curtis Stone was the final judge for the meat round, and Y/n decided to be bolder with her meat choice that time. She chose a wagyu New York steak, and it was safe to say that made the crowd go oooh like a bunch of kindergarteners. Curtis loved her dish, and she beamed from the high praise from such a famous chef.
As for Jimin, he created a pan-seared New York strip in a farrotto. There was some cabbage and parmesan cheese in there as well. Like the halibut, it looked delicious, and Curtis thought the same. However, there could only be one winner. One winner announced in front of a giant crowd, including ten old teammates who were back to be split onto either Y/n or Jimin's teams, each team being five members for the brigade for the final service.
"The chef who gets the point is..." Curtis trailed off as if he had learned a thing or two from Gordon, and then, he glanced between the two dishes before finally settling his gaze on Y/n. "Y/n."
Jimin clapped for her, as did the rest of the stage. Y/n beamed and thanked Curtis, shaking his hand, and Curtis was ushered off stage not long after to make way for Gordon to take over the rest of the event.
"Congratulations, young lady. You won the final challenge in Hell's Kitchen. That means you get first pick for who you want on your team for this upcoming service. You have ten returning teammates. Will all the returning contestants please step forward?"
All ten of them did. The ten were Seulgi, Jungkook, Louis, Yuna, Dennis, Felicia, Diya, Karen, Chris, and Paul. They had to be split into five and five, and Y/n got first pick.
"Who is your first pick for your brigade?" Gordon asked, and Y/n pointed to Seulgi right away.
"Come here, you cold-hearted weirdo."
Seulgi laughed and walked the short steps up to the stage to shake Y/n's hand, thank her for including her, and stand behind her.
"Jimin. Who is your first pick?"
Jimin scanned over the faces and grinned. "Jungkook."
"Ew."
"Just get up here, asshole."
Jungkook rolled his eyes but came up regardless. Despite the attitude, he cracked a small smile and shook Jimin's hand, then he got into place behind Jimin. Both of them needed four more teammates, and it was Y/n's turn to choose. Of course, she chose...
"Yuna."
Yuna bounced onto stage and embraced Y/n. Laughing, Y/n returned it, squeezing the girl before setting her into place by Seulgi's side. Then it was Jimin's turn.
"Louis."
And then Y/n's turn again, to which she chose, "Paul."
Jimin again, and he chose, "Diya."
It went back and forth like that until they reached their finalized teams. Y/n had Seulgi, Yuna, Felicia, Karen, and Paul. Jimin had Jungkook, Louis, Dennis, Diya, and Chris. Five and five. Equal. Y/n was beyond happy with her team. She would have loved to take Diya or Chris, but she had a solid team. She had faith they would get her through the finale.
"Great. Both brigades are selected. Now you guys get to go back to the dorms and teach your teams your menus and how you'd like them done. Your team got a sneak peek at your dishes today during the challenge, but it's your responsibility to teach them how to make it and assign them stations," Gordon explained, and Y/n and Jimin agreed to the terms. It was what they had signed up for, after all. "Good luck."
"Thank you, chef," Jimin and Y/n said in sync, and from there, they waved to the roaring fans of Hell's Kitchen and departed the stage. The producers escorted them back to the dorms, and once upstairs and inside, Y/n almost collapsed onto one of the kitchen chairs. Her brigade was behind her and ready. They wouldn't stay the night and would be kicked out until the service, but they would stay long enough to learn the menu.
"Doing okay?" Seulgi asked. Three members of Y/n's team sat around the kitchen table while Seulgi and Yuna stood, and Y/n sighed and ran a hand through her hair.
"Yeah. Just a lot to take in. I'm a finalist, and I'm going up against my boyfriend."
"Hot boyfriend," Jimin corrected as he strolled by and opened the fridge to grab water bottles for his teammates. He peeked over his shoulder to grin. "Wanna be extra obnoxious to annoy everyone?"
"I hate my life," Seulgi said, and Jungkook agreed with a fake gag.
Y/n chuckled and shook her head. Her teammates were back in the same building together. They'd have to focus on learning the menu and winning, so there wouldn't be much time to chat, but at least she had a brigade and was one step closer to Hell's Kitchen ending. The winner was on the cusp of being announced.
It was only a matter of time.
