The Boyfriends

The parking lot seems more like a death trap. Cracked concrete and fading yellow lines, trees in the distance that shake with the wind, and cars that shine a bit too brightly thanks to the sun. Yoongi looks at the cars and lets out a huff. Lots of hotwiring to do, huh?

Jimin stands next to him and lowly whistles. "That's a lot to do. How about we hotwire two? Three and three, maybe keep the mafias together."

"No way am I not getting in the same car as my girlfriend," Yoongi says, putting some emphasis on the word 'girlfriend' just to piss Jimin off. However, Jimin seems unaffected.

"Fair enough, I don't really make that call, that's on her and you. You two are the bosses, I was just throwing out a suggestion." Wait, is Jimin... being nice? Calm? Somewhat friendly? Yoongi blinks, resisting the urge to rub his eyes to see if he's dreaming. "Let's stick together. Hoseok may be keeping watch not too far away, but I don't think either of us really trust him."

"You don't trust your own teammate?" Yoongi asks, although he can't bring himself to disagree. Yoongi hasn't trusted Hoseok in years.

"Would you trust Jin or Namjoon?"

"Fair. What about Y/n?"

"I don't trust her either. Dated her for the longest time; still don't trust her. Hoseok told me to kill you and you turned out alright, so that only adds to my distrust of him," Jimin says while bringing Yoongi towards the best cars in the large area.

"Did you just compliment me?"

"Take it how you want. I simply pointed out fact." Jimin turns to Yoongi with his jaw set. "I know you don't like me. I'll be honest, I don't like you either, but I'm no idiot. I hope you know that."

"You're rank four, you can't be that stupid."

"Precisely," Jimin says with a hum, approaching the burgundy car not too far. It's a coup, so he ends up skipping it to go to the next one. A black one; a black SUV. "Looks good for storing all the shit we have. Maybe we can even fit everyone in here without any cramming."

"Why am I agreeing with you again?" Yoongi asks aloud.

"Because I'm not as stupid and immature as you originally thought," Jimin replies with no emotion in his tone. Again, more good points. "There's seven seats in this one. It's perfect," Jimin mutters while tracing his hand down the side of it.

"That way we don't split up at all," Yoongi says, Jimin nodding.

"Not bad, Mr. Min. You're starting to catch on. Have any experience with cars?"

"Some."

"Good, you'll need it here. I absolutely hate working with cars, this is Hoseok's thing."

"Then why'd she put us together?" Yoongi asks.

"So the best friend and boyfriend can bond a little bit. Bond over breaking the law in a high stress situation. I'd say it's working. She's a smart girl." Jimin shifts his gaze to Yoongi. "I wish I could trust you to take care of her."

"You should. I'm a good guy."

Jimin almost snorts. "I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, don't make me laugh." Ah, there's the insults. Yoongi knew something was off.

Jimin opens the car door and is taken aback. "Amateurs," Jimin says before moving into the drivers seat. He rifles through the compartments before finding a pocket knife and getting to work. Yoongi watches in silence as the man does his thing, going through all the wires and softly humming as he works. When Yoongi doesn't speak, Jimin sighs. "Music."

"Huh?"

Jimin looks at Yoongi, temporarily pausing his work. "I like music."

"I didn't ask."

"Too bad so sad, cry me a river, you're hearing about my interests anyway."

Yoongi scowls. "Why?"

"Because you like music too," Jimin says.

Yoongi feels his lungs cease their motions for a few seconds. "Huh?"

"One look at you and I know that you love music, bite your nails when you're nervous, and have a strange addiction to coffee."

"It's not strange," Yoongi weakly mumbles.

"It's strange," Jimin says without taking his eyes off the wires. His hands get back to work, his mouth moving to hum some more notes. It's kind of pleasant. Yoongi hates that it is, but it is. Jimin pauses, peeking over at Yoongi again. "And I know that no matter what happens between you and your friends, you'll always love them." Yoongi goes to shake his head, then Jimin raises a hand. "You still love Hoseok, don't you?" Yoongi keeps his mouth shut, tears starting to cloud his vision. Jimin notices and sighs once more. "I know I'm not the person you'd want to tell that, but it might help to have a neutral party in the mix. Not your girlfriend, not Jin, not Namjoon... maybe I can be that mix, if you'll let me."

Yoongi sucks in a breath before gaining the willpower to answer. "Why?"

Jimin gets the car to start, chuckling in satisfaction once it comes to life under his fingertips. He slides out of the vehicle and pats Yoongi on the shoulder. "Because you're dating the woman I love. I'm mature enough not to act childish about that, but I'm also not dumb enough to let you run off with her with no protest. I may not want to get to know you, but I have to. For her sake."

Yoongi scoffs at that. "And let me guess, the second you see something even slightly suspicious, you'll report it to her?"

Jimin gives Yoongi's shoulder a squeeze. "I know you won't believe me, but no. No I won't. We've all done shady things. We're horrible people who kill for a living, I'd be more concerned if I didn't find something suspicious about you. Even though we don't like each other, it's best that we become friends." Jimin meets Yoongi's eyes, and in that moment, Yoongi feels himself forgetting how to breathe. "We both need someone we can at least rely on. Not fully trust, but trust enough that we save each other when needed. I'll be that for you, Mr. Min. But only if you'll be that for me."

He peers at Jimin for a few moments, thinking over each word Jimin said. Well, why the hell not? What else does he have to lose? Sensing Yoongi's thoughts, Jimin backs off and offers his hand to him.

"Truce?" Jimin asks.

Yoongi takes the man's hand and shakes it. "Truce."

To Yoongi's surprise, Jimin smiles. He genuinely smiles. "And not to be a dick, but I still have to give you the best friend speech."

Yoongi groans. "Ah, great-"

"Don't hurt her or I'll break your legs and leave you for the zombies when the apocalypse happens."

Yoongi blinks, tilting his head. "How many zombie movie posters do you have in your room?"

"I don't feel comfortable answering that question." For the first time since he's met Jimin, he laughs because of him. Even Jimin seems surprised at that. "Woah, are you on drugs?"

Yoongi softly smiles and looks at the man, shaking him off. "There's not a single cell in my body that trusts you." Jimin shrugs and accepts this. "But I'll give you some credit, Mr. Park. You're right, taking things in a light way makes life more enjoyable. Maybe there's still time to help my frown lines."

"I doubt there's much we can do for that Mr. Min." They gently laugh, Yoongi dropping his hand. "Oh, and please do tell me I'm right more often. I have an ego if you couldn't tell."

"I could, thanks."

Jimin snickers. "Stay with the car, I'll go tell Hoseok our progress. I figure you'd rather me do it."

Yoongi almost stops him. Almost. "Yeah. Go ahead, I'll stay here."

Jimin does a small salute and turns on his heel, rushing over to the front of the lot. Yoongi unknowingly watches him go to make sure he gets there safely, then he turns to the car. He places his hand on the front of it and manages to smile.

Yoongi peeps back up at Jimin and feels his heart beat a bit differently. He started off hating Jimin's guts not to mention hating him for still being in love with his girlfriend. But now, looking at that joyful man who's happily talking to Hoseok? Yoongi can't stop his smile. He can't stop the peace his heart feels knowing that maybe, just maybe, things will turn out okay. And Jimin's a major player in that.

Yoongi leans against the car and sighs. Maybe this is what he was missing all his life: a good friend. One look at Jimin's smile tells Yoongi all he needs to know. This could be his best friend for life.

If he lets him in...
