"So, Lovie, what are you doing now?" George asked, practically dumping the entire sunscreen bottle on himself. Lovie had a feeling he got sunburned easily by the way he was acting. "College or something?"

"Yeah," she said, trying not to watch him rub his sunscreen in.

"What are you studying to be?" he asked. Pattie and Cynthia were sunbathing nearby while John was down in the water snorkeling. He would come up every once in a while claiming he saw a five foot long fish, but no one believed him.

"Oh, I want to be a marine biologist," she said. "I think stuff like that is interesting."

      "Yeah, it is," George said.

"Are you still in your band?" Lovie asked, trying to make conversation. She still felt really uncomfortable.

George grinned widely, chocolate eyes dancing when he looked at her. "Yes. We've got three albums out now."

"What?" Lovie said in surprise. "How haven't I heard you on the radio? You're still called the Beatles, right?"

      "Yeah."

"I guess Hawaii is out of the loop," she said, baffled.

"Here, I'll play you one of our most recent songs," George said, typing on his phone. A few moments went by before she heard an opening guitar chord and then singing. Lovie listened in awe, mouth hanging open. Then the guitar solo came and she snuck a glance at George, who was listening to it proudly.

"Did you do that?" she asked.

"Yes," he said, smiling wider. "On my twelve-string."

"You guys are really good," Lovie said after the song had ended. "What was that song?"

" 'A Hard Day's Night,' " he said, putting his phone away. "We also have a movie coming out in July." Lovie sat silently. She was sitting next to someone who was probably really famous.

"I'll have to watch it," she said.

"Don't expect much," George laughed. "We couldn't act to save our own lives."

      Lovie smiled.

"Hey!" John shouted from the water. "Guess wha— "

"We know!" Cynthia shouted, cutting him off. "You just saw the biggest fish in your life and you swear it's five feet long!"

John was silent for a moment before muttering something to himself and putting his face back in the water.

"That shut him up," Cynthia said, and Pattie giggled.

"Hey, Lovie, do you want to have dinner with us?" George asked, sounding slightly nervous, drawing circles in the sand with his long fingers.

"I don't want to ruin your vacation," she said hesitantly.

"You're not ruining anything!" Cynthia said, her bright, cheery self. "We enjoy your company!"

"Yeah, you're fun to be around," Pattie said, turning to give her a dazzling smile. At first, Lovie hadn't liked her at all, but now she was discovering that Pattie wasn't that bad . . . She was just dating George.

"You can pick where we eat," Cynthia continued, "because we have no clue where to go."

George looked at her expectantly with his gorgeous brown eyes and Lovie had to look away or she feared she would start stuttering. "Well . . . " she said reluctantly, "I do know this one place . . . "

"The mai tais here are really good," Lovie said as they sat down at their table.

"Mai tai?" George said, eyebrows knitting together.

"It's got rum and fruit juices in it," Lovie explained.

"Sounds good," he grinned and they all told the waiter they wanted some, expect for Pattie, who wasn't twenty-one. She settled for pink lemonade.

"What do you recommend?" George said, holding up the menu. He had sat down beside her and she really wished he hadn't. She couldn't think straight because all she could smell was his cologne and it was heavenly.

"My favorite is mahimahi," Lovie said, pointing to it on the menu. "It's really good, non-fishy tasting, white meat."

"Aw, it's so pretty!" Pattie said, pulling up a picture of it on her phone. "I couldn't eat that. And it says it's a dolphin." She made a sad face and showed Cynthia, who said the same thing.

"I want squid," John said, holding his menu two inches from his face. Lovie wondered if he couldn't see. "I've never had it before so I want to try it."

"Ew," Pattie said, and then looked at Lovie. "Is it good?"

"Just a little chewy, but you'd never know it was squid," Lovie said, smiling.

"You're like our guide," Cynthia laughed.

      "That's fine," Lovie said.

The waiter came with the mai tais and they ordered their food. George ordered at least four more mai tais, and Lovie was beginning to get concerned. As they were walking from the restaurant, Pattie and Lovie got on both sides of him to help him walk because he was swaying.

      "I'm fine," he slurred.

"You sound like it," Lovie snorted.

"You don't need to help me," he said, leaning toward Pattie.

"Sure we don't," Pattie laughed. "Right now, I'm happy to have just had lemonade."

"Should I take a video of him to show him in the morning when he has a hangover?" John asked.

"Don't you dare," Cynthia said, snatching his phone from him.

They walked through the doors of the hotel and Cynthia said to Pattie, "Hey, I think I read somewhere that there's a spa so we can get mani-pedis tomorrow."

"That's exactly what I need," Pattie replied, looking at her nails.

"I'll go ask," Cynthia said, pulling away from the group.

"I'll go with you, Cyn," Pattie said, and turned to Lovie. "Are you fine with him?"

"Yeah, I've got him," Lovie assured her.

"Follow me to the rooms!" John said, slamming his finger on the elevator button. People turned to stare at him. The hotel, Turtle Bay, was known for its ritzy guests, so they would obviously turn to stare at a clown like John.

They rode the elevator up to the third floor and John showed her where George and Pattie's room was before going into his own, which was across the hall.

"Do you have your keycard?" Lovie asked George.

"It's in my pocket," he slurred, leaning clumsily against the wall, fumbling in his pocket. He finally found it and put it in the door upside down. Lovie sighed and turned it around and opened the door for him.

"Well, I guess I'll see you later, Geo," she said, starting to turn.

George caught hold of her forearm and pulled her into the room. He shut the door behind her, pushed her up against it, and sloppily began to kiss her. Lovie made a startled muffling noise, eyes wide. She wanted to push him away and scold him, but couldn't manage to. A few seconds went by before his tongue found its way into her mouth and he began to slide his hands up her shirt.

"Okay," Lovie said, finally coming to her senses, pushing him away. He stumbled and fell onto the carpeted floor, looking up at her with a glazed look.

"See you later," she said harshly and flung the door open, leaving him. Great. Now she could smell his cologne on her. She passed Pattie and Cynthia in the hallway.

"Are you okay, Lovie?" Pattie asked. "You look kind of flushed."

"I'm fine," she said, pushing past them. She needed to get out of there.
