Respect
On the day of the shopping trip, neither (Y/n) nor Haxus spoke to each other; things between the two of them were still tense and (Y/n) didn't want to trigger him. She left a big plate of food and some water for Haxus so that he could continue to get the nutrients he so desperately needed. Haxus had been thinking very hard as of late about how Sendak and the galra empire basically abandoned him and how they truly were ruining everyone's lives; he never questioned his earlier actions before (Y/n) saved him until after he threatened her and she gave him a piece of her mind. So, while she and the others were away, he stayed in bed and continued thinking his life through since there was nothing better to do. Meanwhile, (Y/n) was sitting in the back of an altean pod with the others while Coran flew to the space mall.
(Y/n) was thankful that Allura and Shiro decided to tag along so she didn't have to worry about them discovering Haxus. Recently he managed to start walking again, but he could only walk from your bedroom, to the bathroom and back again. (Y/n's) heart ached a little as she thought about her roommate; she desperately wished he would realize that becoming a nicer person would improve his life. While everyone else was talking to each other, Keith noticed the worried look on (Y/n's) face. She had been acting a little strange as of late and no one knew why, but he definitely wasn't going to judge her for it.
"Everything's going to be fine, (Y/n). I don't like crowds either." Keith, who was sitting by her right side, reassured her, thinking that she was just nervous about the possibility of a busy mall.
"Huh? O-oh, I'm not nervous about the crowd… Okay, maybe a little. I just have a few things on my mind that I'm not comfortable telling anyone." (Y/n) stuttered when she was pulled out of her thoughts, answering him after a moment; there was no way in hell that she was telling him what was really on her mind or what she had been doing in her daily life.
"Alright, I understand." Keith responded in an understanding tone, a slight smile appearing on his face.
(Y/n) reciprocated the smile, thankful that he was understanding and didn't pry. Keith turned his attention to Shiro who asked him a question about something (Y/n) wasn't really interested in. She was excited to go back to the space mall again and she couldn't wait to see if there were any new stores; Coran gave everyone some gac, so she was going to get something nice for herself and secretly get a little something for Haxus. She briefly wondered if there were any bakeries at the mall since she really missed eating her favorite pastries. After a few moments, (Y/n) decided to talk to Hunk, who was sitting next to her left side.
__________
(Y/n) didn't know all of what was needed at the space mall, so she was thankful that Coran gave everyone a short shopping list and some extra gac. The main items that were needed was some kind of new parts for the castle, but other supplies were needed as well. (Y/n) decided to go with Lance and Pidge since they were heading to the second level stores. She was always in awe of how big the mall was and how unique the stores from all over the universe were. (Y/n) looked in the window of each store that she, Lance and Pidge passed, seeing what each one was selling.
"Where do you think the castle parts are?" (Y/n) casually asked Pidge and Lance, not really thinking about it much.
"This place is huge, so they could be anywhere." Pidge answered, obviously distracted by all the stores; (Y/n) definitely couldn't blame her for being distracted.
"True, but there's no shortage of beautiful girls." Lance added while winking at a small group of teenage alien girls, causing them to giggle like schoolgirls.
"We're not looking for girls, Lance. Okay, maybe you are, but if you want a chance with Allura you need to stop flirting with every girl you come across." (Y/n) told the Blue Paladin with a serious tone, reminding him of his crush on the Altean princess.
Lance huffed, but he knew she was right; he was in love with Allura and he wouldn't get the chance to date her if he flirted with every girl he came across. None of them said anything as they walked together, not seeing any stores with spare parts anywhere. While passing one store in particular, (Y/n) saw that it had all kinds of clothing in it. She was in need of a jacket since sometimes it was chilly in the castle of lions and Haxus needed a new outfit, but none of the others could find out about Haxus living in the castle and needing new clothes.
"Hey, I'll catch up with you guys later. I just need to buy a jacket since it's been chilly in the castle and I accidentally left mine on Earth." (Y/n) spoke up when she stopped walking in front of the clothing store, watching as Pidge and Lance also stopped walking, both of them looking at her.
"We shouldn't split up, but if you're sure that you want to." Lance reminded (Y/n), knowing that the three of them needed to continue looking for the spare castle parts.
"I know. How about we meet up over at the Earth store?" (Y/n) suggested, pointing to the store that was filled with random items from their homeworld.
"That sounds like it would be alright." Pidge responded logically, thinking about it for a few seconds.
(Y/n) smiled at the two youngest paladins before walking into the clothing store, making sure that they went on to look for the parts. She walked past clothes racks, looking for what she needed; after a few moments of searching, she found an entire rack of two armed jackets. There were so many sizes, styles and colors to choose from, but finding the right one was a little difficult. Finally, after a few moments of searching, (Y/n) found a (F/c) jacket with a (S/f/c) hood and pockets that was just her size. With finding a jacket for herself out of the way, she needed to find some simple clothes for Haxus.
"Excuse me, ma'am, but would there be any clothes here that would fit a lean, medium sized male galra?" (Y/n) asked the cashier whose species she didn't know the name of, not trying to sound suspicious.
"Got a galra boyfriend, huh? Come on, follow me." The cashier said in a friendly tone, her purplish blue eyes lighting up with excitement before leaving the front counter.
Haxus definitely wasn't (Y/n's) boyfriend, but she decided to just go along with it so that she wouldn't raise any suspension. (Y/n) followed the young alien woman through the store before coming to a stop in front of a large rack that held dark gray, maroon and orange clothes. She knew nothing about galran fashion, so she just assumed the clothes on the rack were currently in style. The cashier stood to the side while (Y/n) looked through the different outfits, not knowing what size she needed. She soon found what she was looking for; a two toned gray tunic with tight maroon sleeves and a pair of dark gray pants that looked like they would fit Haxus perfectly.
"These are perfect, thank you." (Y/n) thanked the cashier, smiling at her after she picked out the desired outfit.
"There’s no need to thank me, I'm happy to help. That outfit is very in style amongst civilian galra, so your boyfriend will love it." The cashier responded happily, leading (Y/n) back to the front of the store.
(Y/n) blushed lightly, following the cashier to the front counter and hoping that Haxus would accept the new clothes. He definitely hated (Y/n) and everyone else who lived in the castle of lions, but (Y/n) had hope that he would eventually turn over a new leaf in life. After paying for the clothes and having the cashier wrap Haxus' clothes before putting them in the bag, (Y/n) thanked her again before leaving the store. She still had some gac left, so she could still buy something extra. (Y/n) considered getting a book in the book store, but she decided against it when she found some (F/s) in the Earth store where she met up with Lance and Pidge who were buying another video game, as well as some other things.
(Y/n) had been to the Earth store once before during the first trip to the mall; she remembered when Coran tried to get everyone to wear disguises and how Varkon thought they were all space pirates. Coran managed to find the parts he needed at a spare parts store, Shiro found something similar to a bakery and got everyone something, Hunk and Allura found some ingredients for food and Keith somehow got into trouble again. All in all, the trip to the space mall was a lot of fun and (Y/n) hoped to go there again. Dinner that evening was going to be especially good; (Y/n) would figure out how to bring some to Haxus after everyone ate and went to go do their own thing later. For the time being though, she was enjoying the ride back to the castle after everyone made it back to the pod.
__________
As soon as Coran landed the pod in the pod bay and opened the back door, everyone climbed out, each of them holding at least two or three bags or boxes. (Y/n) was clutching her bag close to her body, thankful that the others didn't ask her why it looked so full. Shiro went with Hunk to the kitchen in a hurry since there was some frozen food that needed to be put in the kitchen freezer as soon as possible. Keith was helping Coran unload the castle parts while Allura unloaded a few other things with Lance and Pidge.
"Hey, I'm going to go put this in my room. I'll be right back to help you guys put things away." (Y/n) told Allura, Pidge and Lance while backing up a little before turning around and walking out of the pod bay.
Lance, Pidge and Allura were a little confused by (Y/n's) hastiness to leave, but none of them stopped her from going. (Y/n) walked to her room as quickly as she could, hoping not to run into anyone so that they wouldn't get suspicious. Keeping Haxus a secret was fairly easy unless someone saw her sneaking food to her room, but she had thankfully avoided anyone finding out the truth thus far. Speaking of Haxus, (Y/n) hoped that he was in a better mood so that she could at least be on speaking terms with him again. When she finally got to her room, opened the door, walked in and saw Haxus still laying in almost the same position, (Y/n) walked over and sat on the edge of her bed.
"Hey." (Y/n) spoke in a shy, quiet tone, hoping that her roommate would at least talk to her again.
"Hello." Haxus responded as he turned his attention to (Y/n), glancing down at the bag on her lap.
"I know that you don't trust me, but I secretly got some new clothes for you to wear. It's only one outfit for the time being, but I'll try my best to get more clothes for you to wear in the future. Here, it's yours." (Y/n) told the male who laid on her bed, taking the package out of the bag and laying it on his lap.
Haxus gave the young woman a look of suspicion before looking down at the medium sized package that was wrapped in thin brown paper. His eyes widened a little after tearing through the paper and getting a better look at the clothes; they were made for civilian galran men and looked as though they were the latest fashion. He wasn't expecting (Y/n) to actually get him something, but he felt grateful that she did. During the entire time she was gone Haxus had been thinking very hard about his role in the war and how it seemed irrelevant now that the galra empire most likely thought he was dead and wouldn't take him back even if he went back; actually, they would probably consider him a traitor. There was no point living in the past, so he had come to the conclusion to change his ways and embrace the future.
"I- I thank for this and I would like to apologize for treating you so badly. You're right, no one in the Empire cared about me and they wouldn't take me back if I went to Galra Central Command… If you would like, you can sleep in your bed again. You were kind enough to let me have it, now I'm ready to let you have it. I have no interest in mating with you, but I don't mind sharing the bed with you." Haxus spoke with a humble tone, thanking (Y/n) before going on to apologize for treating her so badly.
"I forgive you; I know that it can't be easy to leave behind what's familiar to you. But are you sure that you want to share the bed with me? I don't want to pressure you into anything." (Y/n) queried, feeling a little stunned about Haxus wanting her to sleep with him on her bed; it was big enough for two people, but just barely.
"Yes, I'm sure. It isn't right for me to sleep on your bed in your room while you're stuck sleeping on the floor." Haxus assured her, a slight smile appearing on his face.
"I- Okay, if you're really sure. Thank you. Now, I have to go help the others put things away, but I promise to bring you dinner later; Hunk's making something new, so I think you'll like it." (Y/n) softly replied, giving him a friendly smile before getting up and leaving her room; once she was back out in the hallway and the door slid shut behind her, (Y/n) couldn't help but feel giddy.
Haxus bid (Y/n) a farewell right before she left her room, the foreign feeling of happiness creeping up on him; it wasn't like he didn't have the ability to feel happy, but after being raised in a strict Galran colony when he was a kit and going through training to become a soldier in the Galra army, it had been beaten out of him. Having someone care about him specifically was very strange, but it felt nice at the same time; thinking about how nice (Y/n) was being to him created a warm, fluttery feeling in his chest. With things taking a turn for the better, Haxus was going to get back to normal as quickly as he could so that her efforts to help him wouldn't be in vain. Meanwhile, (Y/n) was helping the others put things away so that her absence wouldn't seem suspicious. After her conversation with Haxus (Y/n) were surprised at the respect he treated her with, but she knew that everyone had the ability to change.
